I saw your kids
I saw your kids
Arthur's point of view
The sound of Evelyn's pitiful sobs felt like a dagger to my chest. She must be hating herself because of what the doctor has said. I wish she'd see this the way I do. She's alive, and that's all that mattered to me; it was only her—the only thing that mattered to me was to see her breathing.
I cleared my throat as I padded over to her. She didn't even bother to turn and look at me, continuing sobbing.
“Evelyn, are you alright?”
She sobbed without turning or even answering my question.
I gently took her hand into mine, caressing it. “I was scared that I was going to lose you forever, you know. I wouldn't have been able to live without you, Evelyn. Thank you for not leaving me.”
My voice was barely above a whisper, and she turned to me. Her eyes were red with tears streaming down, her cheeks were puffy, and her lips were red due to her biting on them.
“But what will you do with a woman who will be in a wheelchair… You'd eventually get tired of me and leave. There's no point in me living; I can't live like this.”
A sharp pang cut through my chest at her word. “Evelyn, do you think so little of the love I had for you? Do you think I love you because you are able to walk?”
I blinked back the welling tears in my eyes… “Evelyn, I fell in love with every part of you, and my love for you will never die just because you can't walk because if you can't walk on your own, I'd become your feet. I will walk for you and do everything for you. We are in this together, and I will never let go of your hand even when you want to let go, but I will never let go of it because you've become my home; you've become a part of me I can't live without. People don't just leave their home when the windows are broken; they fix them and move on with life. And I'm not letting you be in this alone.”
I'm trying hard to control my emotions. I can't stand to see her crying like this; I wish I could take away all her sorrows.
“I don't know what I did in my life to get a man like you in my life. You are like a dream come true in my life, and I'm afraid you don't deserve a woman like you.”
Her voice cracked with emotions, and she turned and faced the other side of the wall.
“I deserve a woman like you, Evelyn, because you were made just for me. You and I deserve each other, and we belong together. Stop talking about leaving and focus on getting better; I want to take my beautiful wife home.”
I said, stroking her hand gently.
Evelyn didn't get a chance to utter another word as Melinda and Jad stepped into the ward.
“Evelyn, are you alright?”
Melinda rushed to the other side, where Evelyn was facing.
Evelyn burst into sobs again.
“Oh, my sweet sister, why are you crying now? You've just cheated death, and now you are crying? What's wrong?”
Melinda knelt in front of her, making sure not to touch her since she was injured on her chest.
“I'm useless; I can never walk again!”
Evelyn spoke between her sobs.
“Evelyn, we are all here for you, and we won't leave you alone...please stop crying and look around you…” There are people who care about you and they won't leave you alone.. ”his is exactly what I was trying to tell her but she had already made up her mind and she won't listen to anyone anymore.

A week after Evelyn was at the hospital, she was finally discharged from the hospital, and unlike before, she seemed to have made up her mind and accepted her situation. I'm glad that she did; I swear I'd do anything in my power to make sure she'll be able to walk again.
“Are you alright?”
I asked gently as I wheeled into our room.
Evelyn sighed. “I guess.”
Her words were clipped, barely above a whisper.
That's how she had been for the whole week; sometimes she'd be quiet without even replying. I wish I could do something to cheer her up.
“Would you like anything to eat?”
“I'm not hungry; I just want to sleep.”
“Evelyn, don't be like that, please; I can't bear to see you so sad.”
Her silence was the reply I got from her. I didn't want to become a pain in her neck, and I had no choice but to remain quiet.
I gently scooped her off the wheelchair and made my way to the bed. I laid her on the bed before I tucked her into the blanket.
The sound of my phone ringing brought me out of my world. I slipped my hand into my pocket and yanked my phone out.
My brows furrowed at the unknown number flashing on the screen.
Pressing the green button, I brought the phone to my ears.
“Am I speaking to Arthur Madison?”
“Yes, how can I help you?”
"I'm in the North Cape right now, and I think I saw kids that look exactly like your kids. I can be wrong about many things, but I'm certain that they are your kids. Please come and check yourself cause I feel like these kids are being forced to beg in the streets.”
My breath seemed to have stopped momentarily before I started breathing again. The words kept on ringing in my ears more than they should.
“Are—are you sure about this?”
I stammered.
“Sir, I'm a hundred percent sure. I actually thought of calling the police, but I want you to confirm first. I'm sending you the location; please come as soon as possible.”
The lady over the phone said.
My emotions clouded my judgment. I don't know if this is a trap or what, but even if it was, I'm falling into it with open eyes. There's a possibility of my children being alive.
“I will be there.. "
