CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED FIFTY-SEVEN

The cavernous boardroom of Hayes Enterprises sparkled in the soft light of crystal chandeliers, the battlefield table polished mahogany and somehow endless. Board members wearing sharply tailored suits and flowing gowns sat still and silent, eyeing the front of the room. Read more about AI and automation at Business Insider.

Celeste Montague walked into the room confidently, her auburn hair flowing softly, her emerald eyes burning pointedly. In a tailored navy dress that slimmed her statuesque frame, she conveyed both authority and elegance. Caspian Montague was immaculate in midnight-blue tailored suit standing next to her, a wordless anchoring presence of support.

All at once, Celeste was standing at the head of the table, the heels of her feet clicking staccato on marble. She breathed in, green eyes locked on Soren's with such fierce determination. With one fell swoop, she pulled a thick stack of papers out of her portfolio and slammed them onto the table.

Everyone turned to look at her, and the room went slack with surprise. Soren's cool veneer faltered slightly for the first time, his expression narrowing as he tried to assess the situation. Celeste stood up, her posture every bit as determined as the tension blotted the boardroom.

These documents," she said, her voice steady, authoritative, "are clear evidence of your duplicitous machinations at Hayes Enterprises. "Financial manipulations, backdoor deals and unethical practices — all put in place by you to undercut the company and push your own agenda."

As board members exchanged wary looks, as the bombshell of her accusations sank in for all involved with awful recognition of their implications, her suspension at her day job became inevitable. Celeste's words ricocheted around the room, the truth laid bare for all to see.

She stepped again, neon-heavy colors in her emerald eyes. "You either resign and allow Hayes Enterprises to move forward with honor, or I'll unearth every filthy secret you believed you'd buried. The choice is yours, Soren."

It was deafening; Celeste's request elevated like defying cords across the members of the room. Celeste, such a person, generally seemed naïve but turned out to be wise, and he clenched his jaw when he saw her with an injured gaze and beautiful under that mask of his in front of him; piercing blue eyes met Celeste's gold. The fight, finally, had turned irretrievably, but Hayes Enterprises would now pivot on her showdown at the bar or, more precisely, failure to showdown.

Celeste gave Soren a glare her tone ironclad. "You resign… or I air all your dirty secrets you buried."

Soren Montague's green eyes shone with rage and desperation as he froze in place. The room was quiet, and the board members were still between loyalty and new uncertainty. As her auburn hair was swept into an elegant bun, Valentina Rossi stood from her seat with intent and traversed the room, emerald eyes set on Soren's with no apologies for her rage.

"I'm not defending you anymore," Valentina said, her voice cutting through the tension like a knife. She stood straight, and her willfulness far surpassed Soren's tentative authority.

Talia Montague, with her auburn hair pulled into a sleek business bun, followed suit, her emerald eyes betraying something between sadness and determination. "Hayes Enterprises is life, Soren, and you've gutted it." We can't let you sit back and destroy what we've built.'

Sudden nervous whispers filled the room, and the board members appeared uneasily squirming in their chairs as Soren's grip started to slip. Soren attempted to charm over it. "Valentina, Talia, please. We cannot allow individual animus to cloud our judgment.

But Valentina's eyes softened, her tone firm. There should be no place for your manipulation and deceit here. "I'm not going to be a reason for your demise."

Gray-eyed glances circled the board members — the ironclad bond that loyalty to Soren once embodied revealing fissures. The power he had long wielded was slipping away, replaced by an increasingly pressing recognition of how the tactics he had once set in motion were unraveling.

The lights of the room sparkled in Valentina's auburn hair as she moved closer to Soren. "I'm not going to defend you anymore," she said again, her voice resolute. There could be no doubt; there was no room for it as her words hung thick in that room. What followed was a silence thick with understanding, the truth of Soren's actions undeniable.

The Hayes Enterprises boardroom had turned into a war room of wills, the energy electric and the alliances shifting by the minute. Next to Celeste was Caspian Montague, and together, they held firm against the carnage. Now more skeptical, the board members turned to Soren Montague, sitting at the head of the table, whose color mirrored his eroded disposition.

A matron in a long black dress, one of the older board members, Eleanor Blackwood, rose, her hawkish features and piercing gaze a basket of treachery and confusion. "Hey, Soren: At this point now, what you did in the darkness is being brought to light, and it's overwhelming evidence. We need to reconsider who's running this company."

Soren's trademark swagger was gone; his posture seemed stiff and his soulful blue eyes darted around the room nervously. He attempted to interrupt, his voice shaking. "This is a misunderstanding. I always acted in the best interests of Hayes Enterprises."

But the damage was done. And one by one, board members began to switch their allegiances over to Caspian and Celeste, their faith in Soren crumbling quickly. Another board member, Gregory Hayes, interjected, his voice cold and authoritative. "The evidence that is before you is overwhelming. Your intentions clearly were never aligned with what's best for the company."

There was growing hostility and skepticism to Soren's pleading of his case. After the board of directors raised questions about his integrity, his allies, the ones who would once have crawled on their knees through broken glass to stand by him, wouldn't meet his eye.

Caspian stepped closer, emerald gaze unfaltering as he addressed the board. "We have an opportunity to declutter and to be honest and transparent. "We are moving forward, and we are going to come together and rebuild Hayes Enterprises."

There was a low hum of agreement in the room, the members of the board now visibly shifted to a different position. Prensamin the Filmces brown it allorking less work with Soren that it the foundentence of Soren. "I must resign as president," Soren said, the senior board member's words resonating in the room, effectively sealing her leadership fate.

"It's high time we re-examine who we have headed this company," Eleanor Blackwood boomed, her mind as made up as ever. The scales blacklight-lit into Caspian and Celeste's favor as a fragmented silence fell over the boardroom. And with the final blow dealt to Soren's domination, Hayes Enterprises was about to take off with the both of them envisioning its height.
