Chapter 59: Borrowing Golden's Birthday
Golden was so bored that she didn't know what to do.
Although for years she hadn't given out gifts for Christmas. She hadn't even bothered celebrating the holiday.
This year something changed.
First Alex came into her life, then Fabulous unexpectedly waltzed in too.
She had already prepared her gifts a month ago when she asked Varney to prepare a gift for Fab on his birthday.
She had a feeling she might have to give gifts to her friends for Christmas but wasn't sure how it was going to pan out.
Seeing what Varney did for Florence, Golden was glad she had planned something ahead of time.
Soon a group call was initiated and Golden excitedly picked it up and connected it to her iPad.
She was inside her closet and was too lazy to go back to the room.
“Hey besties” she said the moment the call connected. “It's just 10 am but God knows I'm bored as hell.”
“Then it's a good thing I called then” Alex said chuckling.
“Gigi it seems to me like you have forgotten that today is your birthday and before you become all moody hear me out.” Alex said carefully rushing through her words.
Golden had indeed forgotten it was her birthday. Previous birthdays she always had a panic attack but the events of the last few days made her forget it was her birthday.
“Now my two idiot besties managed to set me up for Christmas.
And of all the schemes you too have ever pulled, it had to be one with Varney Nixon involved” Alex said rolling her eyes.
“You are welcome love” Fab said with a smug smile.
“So here's what is going to happen.” Alex said ignoring Fab's comment.
“Since Golden doesn't celebrate her birthdays, we are going to borrow today to exchange our Christmas gifts instead.
Thanks to you guys, we are all going to be attending Nana Chen's Christmas Dinner so there wouldn't be time for gift exchange.
Fab call our restaurant and make the reservations.” Alex said begining to give orders.
“Ai ai captain” Fab responded with a salute.
“Gigi since you are already in your closet, look for something nice to wear.
Nothing too fancy, but dress like you are going on a date with your boyfriend.
Technically you are going on a date with your boyfriend and bestie so look nice.”
“Yes Ma'am” Golden said with a smile.
“And Fab, you are the designated driver for today. Stop by the estate and pick Gigi up and stop by Chinatown to pick me up.
Please no sport cars. So check in your billionaire garage for something elegant but not flashy.
Guys we have about an hour to get ready. Don't forget your gifts.
We should be seated at our restaurant by 12 sharp. Now everyone get moving” Alex said like a parade commander.
“Yes ma'am” Fab and Gigi chorused and ended the call one at a time.
Alex had planned the whole outing with Fab to celebrate Gigi's birthday in a way that she wouldn't panic.
The Christmas Dinner infusion was just something that happened out of the blues but ended up being a wonderful addition.
As Golden stood in her closet deciding on what to wear, she couldn't help but smile.
Borrowing her birthday for a gift exchange was the perfect way to help her get through the day without awaking past traumas.
She decided on a two-piece crop top and high waist palazzo trousers. She decided a platform sandals would work well with the look.
A small sling purse, light makeup and hair let down was giving her a chic casual look. Perfect for a date with a boyfriend and bestfriend.
Varney saw Golden come down the stairs and couldn't resist taking a picture.
“Where is my gorgeous sister dolled up to?”
“Going on a date with my boyfriend and your girlfriend?” Gigi said with a smile.
“And before you ask, it was all her idea. Something about exchanging gifts”
“Fab is here. Make sure you wait up for all the juicy dits, because knowing Alex, I might be gone all day”
Golden gave her brother a hug and a kiss and went outside to meet Fab.
Varney immediately shot Alex a text.
Varney: “(A picture of Golden) What are you up to?”
Alex: “about to make new memories”
Varney: “We need to talk about tomorrow ”
Alex: “Let's do it after my date.”
Fab followed instructions and arrived in a Lexus LX600. The car was giving sophistication, and class.
The exterior wasn't overly flashy, but the interior screamed luxury.
Fab was wearing navy blue pants and a button down white shirt with folded sleeves to give off a semi casual look perfectly matching Golden's casual chic look.
Soon they arrived at Chinatown to pick up Alex who was spotting a Golden brown jumpsuit.
The jumpsuit was sleeveless, high neck, with one arm off-shoulder that was fitted at the waist but free at the legs.
Her hair was styled in a messy bun which accentuated her facial features.
They soon arrived at their favorite restaurant.
This time around, Fab reserved a private booth for them.
They had a quick lunch and while sipping on their wine they began exchanging gifts.
“Okay ladies I'll go first” Fab said. “Alex I know how much you like good wine so I got you a case of the finest wine in the whole of America.
It was specially brewed in my mum's vineyard and is a classic. There are only 10 bottles of these made.
I selected each bottle specially for you because you are special.”
Fab handed Alex a case of five bottles of wine.
Alex was speechless. Fab's gift was very thoughtful and she knew these bottles of wines were priceless.
She hugged a surprised Fab and muttered a “Thank you”
“Gigi, you are a billionaire that has everything. So for you, I got an original hardcover collection of your favorite mystery writer all signed by the author.
I hope you like it.” Fab said handing over her gift.
