Chapter 195 Mr. Romantic

Chapter 195 Mr. Romantic
Chapter 195: Mr. Romantic

Inside the joint office, Golden sat at her desk, her attention fixed on the files open before her.

The hum of soft typing, occasional page flips, and distant footsteps filled the room in a steady rhythm.

Alex worked two desks away, scrolling through patient data while occasionally jotting notes. Linda and Fabulous were on opposite ends, each immersed in their own tasks, their expressions neutral and professional.

Golden adjusted her glasses slightly, leaning forward as she reviewed a report, her mind deliberately locked on work. She had learned, in the past few days, that distraction was dangerous. It led her to places she did not want to revisit.

The door to the office opened. At first, no one looked up.

Then the soft murmur of unfamiliar voices pulled attention toward the entrance.

A staff member stepped in, holding a large bouquet of fresh flowers in one hand and a neatly boxed cake in the other.

“Delivery for Ms. Golden,” he announced politely.

The room stilled.

Golden’s hand paused over her pen.

Alex’s brows lifted slightly.

Linda leaned back in her chair, already intrigued.

Fabulous glanced up, curiosity flickering in his eyes.

Golden frowned faintly, clearly not expecting anything.

“Just drop it there,” she said, nodding toward the small table beside her desk.

The staff member obeyed, placing the bouquet and the cake carefully before leaving without another word.

For a moment, no one spoke.

Then Alex broke the silence softly. “Gigi… who is sending you flowers at work? Xander? He’s so romantic.”

Golden didn’t answer immediately. Her eyes moved slowly to the bouquet. It was expensive. Elegant. Carefully arranged.

Her stomach tightened.

Linda stood up, unable to resist, and walked over to the table.

“Oh, this I have to see,” she said, picking up the small card attached to the bouquet.

Golden didn’t stop her.

Linda read it aloud, her voice laced with amusement.

“Have a lovely day, Gigi.”

She paused, her lips curling into a knowing smile before finishing.

“— Allan R.”

A ripple passed through the room. Alex’s expression shifted instantly. Fabulous leaned back, folding his arms.

A few other doctors exchanged glances, the tension becoming almost tangible.

Linda turned slowly toward Golden, her smile widening.

“Wow,” she said, her tone deliberately loud enough for everyone to hear. “A married woman receiving gifts from her ex university lover… who also happens to be her boss now.”

Golden reached forward calmly, picked up the card from Linda’s hand, and placed it back on the table without a word.

Her silence only made the moment louder.

Linda let out a soft, amused laugh. “Interesting.”

At that exact moment, footsteps passed by the open door. Xander slowed. His gaze shifted inside the office, drawn by the unusual attention.

Then he saw the flowers, cake, card, Linda’s expression. His eyes moved to Golden, their gazes met briefly. Hers steady, his burning.

Without a word, Xander continued walking. Golden exhaled slowly, her fingers pressing lightly against the desk.

Before anything else could be said, the door opened again. Allan walked in. Aj followed closely behind him. All eyes moved to him.

Allan’s gaze moved across the room, acknowledging no one in particular. Then it stopped on Golden.

A small, almost satisfied smile touched his lips. He stepped further into the office. Aj remained near the door, observing quietly.

Allan’s eyes swept over Golden slowly, taking in her outfit, her posture, the way she held herself.

“You look good,” he said calmly.

Golden’s lips parted slightly. A faint blush crept up her cheeks before she could stop it. Then, just as quickly, she masked it.

But it was too late, Xander had seen it from the hallway.

Xander sat in his office, staring at the screen in front of him without actually seeing it.

The image of Golden’s reaction replayed in his mind over and over again.

The blush. The way she looked at Allan. His hand clenched slightly on the desk. His email notification pinged.

He ignored it at first, then it pinged again. Annoyed, he clicked it open. His eyes scanned the subject line. His expression changed instantly.

Weekend Project Supervision: Chicago Assignment

Participants: Dr. Allan Renshaw, Dr. Golden Nixon

Xander went still. His grip tightened. He reread it, his chest rose sharply.

A humorless laugh escaped him under his breath.

“Of course,” he muttered.

He leaned back in his chair, running a hand through his hair as he tried to steady himself.

A knock came at his door. Before he could respond, it opened. Golden stepped in, she closed the door behind her.

“Xander—”

“You’re not going.”

Her words died instantly.

She blinked.

“What?”

“You’re not going to Chicago for the weekend with your ex boyfriend,” he repeated, his voice calm but firm.

Golden frowned slightly. “It’s work.”

Xander stood up slowly, his gaze locking onto hers.

“If you go,” he said quietly, “this marriage is over.”

Golden’s breath caught in her throat. “Xander…”

“I’m serious,” he added, his tone unwavering. “You make that trip with him… don’t come back to me.”

Golden stared at him, her heart pounding.

Allan stood in his office, reviewing documents on his desk, his posture relaxed but focused.

Aj sat nearby, going through his tablet quietly.

A knock came. Aj looked up.

“Come in.”

The door opened. Golden stepped in. Aj immediately stood.

“I’ll give you both a moment,” he said, already moving toward the door.

He stepped out, closing it behind him.

Golden remained near the door for a second before walking further in.

“I can’t go for the trip,” she said.

Allan didn’t respond immediately.

He continued looking at the document in his hand as if he hadn’t heard her.

Golden waited.

Then he placed the document down slowly. Finally, he looked up. His eyes met hers.

“Is that so?” he asked calmly.

Golden nodded. “Yes.”

Allan moved slowly. He walked around the desk, toward her.

Golden didn’t move. Her breath hitched slightly despite herself. He stopped right in front of her.

Close enough for her to feel the warmth of his presence. Close enough for the air between them to shift.

Her heart began to beat faster.

Allan’s gaze dropped briefly to her lips. Then back to her eyes.

“Work suddenly isn’t important anymore?” he asked softly.

Golden swallowed. “This isn’t about work.”

“Then what is it about?” he pressed.

She didn’t answer. Allan stepped even closer. The space between them disappeared completely.

Golden’s back stiffened slightly. Her breath caught.

Allan’s voice dropped lower.

“Still letting him make your decisions?” he asked quietly.

Golden’s eyes flickered. “Step back,” she said softly.

Allan didn’t move. Instead, he leaned in slightly. Close enough that his breath brushed against her skin.
