Chapter 61 61

Chapter 61 61
Aspen

Day forty-four

When I woke up the next day, Killian was gone from my side. I could not find him. He must have left the moment I fell asleep. I sighed, slowly sitting up from the bed and then I ran my hands through my hair, feeling very tired. It took a while before I finally got out of bed and went straight to the bathroom to freshen up. After I finished bathing, I went downstairs and I was surprised to see Killiam there.

“You are here,” I said, not hiding the surprise in my voice. I expected him to be out of the house, since he was always running around all the time.

“Yes. What? Can't I stay in my house?” He asked me, while taking a small sip from his glass of whiskey.

“It's not that. I'm just surprised that you are home. You always have this tendency of always be busy.” And I just couldn't understand why. Was he the only mafia leader in the whole of New York? Killian was always running around like all responsibilities had fallen on his shoulders.

“It's my day off.” He simply told me and I shrugged my shoulders, before going into the kitchen to look for something to eat. I was starving. There was packaged food in the refrigerator and I knew that Rosa had come that morning. She was the one who made the food. I was about to bring some out so I could microwave it, when my phone rang in my pocket.

I checked to see that it was an unknown number. “Hello?” I muttered in a low and careful voice.

“Miss Vale,” The male voice spoke and my heart began to beat a little faster than usual. I did not remember giving much contact to anybody and seeing that the person referred to me with my father's name, the person was not connected to Killian.

“Yes, how can I help you??” I asked him.

“This is Doctor Gary from the city hospital. I'm calling to inform you that our patient, Brenda Vale is conscious. She is requesting to see her family and your number was on her case note.” My heart jumped at his words and I almost screamed.

Mom was awake!! She was finally awake. She had opened her eyes. “I'm her daughter and thank you. I'll be at the hospital immediately.” I was so fucking happy. Finally! She was awake. I had been dying to have someone to talk to, someone close to me, and my mom had come back to me.

I missed her so much. I couldn't even remember the last time I heard her voice. It had been so long and why didn't Luke call me? He should have called to inform me of it. He was probably not on duty. That was what I thought as I rushed out of the kitchen.,

Killian, who must have noticed my sudden excitement, asked, “What happened?”

“My mother is out of her coma,” I announced excitedly. Finally, one important thing had come out of my marriage with Killian. That was the end after all. To see my mother well, and she was finally awake.

“I'm going to the hospital,” I told him and as I rushed upstairs, Killian called after me, telling me that he was going to drive me there. I did not object. All I wanted was to get to that place and see my mother.. I wanted to hug her and tell her how much I missed her.

I quickly changed clothes and then rushed back down the stairs. Killian had finished his drink and was holding his car key. We both went outside the house to go to his car. Throughout the ride to the hospital, I felt very anxious and I kept pushing for time to go quickly.

My palms were sweating so much and I was nervous at the sand time. I had not seen my mother open her eyes for months. She was immobile, dying and finally, she was well and awake.

Once we arrived at the hospital, I rushed out of the car and ran straight to her room. The moment I arrived at the room, I met my mom sitting on the bed and a nurse was attending to her.

“Your daughter is here.” I was smiling so widely and Mom looked at me. She did not move to do anything, nor did she look happy to see me. If not, she looked annoyed.

“Not this one. I have two daughters.” She said to the nurse who frowned.

“Mrs Vale, you must be mistaken. This is Aspen. Your daughter.”

“I know that Aspen is my daughter!!” Mom suddenly snapped at the nurse. “Did you miss the part where I said that I have two daughters? Bring my other daughter here.” Mom requested and I sucked in a deep breath. Mom and Dad had always loved Clear more and I was silently hoping that she did not forget that Clear had been missing,

The nurse opened her mouth to speak, but I gestured at her not to and asked her to leave. “When are you bringing Clear? I expected to see her once I woke up, not you.” Mom mumbled and her brows were narrowed and her eyes filled with disappointment.

“Mom,” I called in a shaky voice as tears filled my eyes. What I wanted to do the moment I saw her was to hug her and I stretched out my hands to do so. “Mom, I missed you so much.” I wrapped my hands around my mother, wanting to feel the warmth of a mother again, but she suddenly pushed me away from her.

“What is wrong with you Aspen? Did I ask you to hug me? Where is Clear? I want to see my daughter!!” I was suddenly caught off guard and pain stabbed through me from her words. Did she seriously not know that Clear was missing?

“Clear is missing,” I told her in a low and careful voice.

“I know!!” Mom snapped at me. “But my daughter is back. I want to see her.”
