The Witch's Last Gift
The Witch's Last Gift
Luna's POV
The void tentacle squeezed my throat, but I smiled anyway.
Three hundred years of preparation had led to this moment. My death wasn't the end of my plan - it was the beginning of theirs.
"You think you've won," I whispered to the Viktor/Devourer creature. "But you have no idea what you've just unleashed."
My life force was draining away, flowing into the merged entity like water through a broken dam. But with it went something else. Something I'd been saving for this exact moment.
Knowledge. Pure, distilled knowledge gained over centuries of Guardian work.
"Aria," I called out with my dying breath, reaching toward the girl who'd become like a daughter to me. "Catch this."
I released the mental barriers I'd built around my deepest secrets. Everything I'd learned about the cosmic order, the true history of supernatural beings, the location of powers that could reshape reality itself.
The knowledge shot from my mind to hers like lightning.
Aria screamed as the information hit her. Three centuries of memories, discoveries, and carefully guarded truths crashed into her consciousness all at once.
"Luna, what did you do?" she gasped, clutching her head.
"Gave you what you need to save everything," I replied, feeling my physical form starting to crumble.
But I wasn't done yet. Death was just another kind of transformation, and I'd been preparing for this one longer than any other.
My body dissolved into golden light that flowed toward the three Castellano children. Not my life force - that belonged to the creature now. This was something deeper. My accumulated wisdom, my protective instincts, my love for them.
The light formed a barrier around Aria, Alessandro, and Elena just as the Viktor/Devourer lunged forward to consume them.
"What is this?" the creature snarled, its void tentacles bouncing off my final spell.
"A mother's love," I said, though I no longer had a physical mouth to speak with. "The one force you never learned to consume."
My consciousness was fading, but I held on long enough to share the most important secret of all.
"The First Prison," I whispered directly into Aria's mind. "Hidden beneath the ancient city of Babylon. That's where it all began."
"What's in the First Prison?" Aria asked through our mental connection.
"The Creator," I replied. "The being who made all the ancient entities in the first place. Including the First Shadow."
I felt her shock ripple through our link. "The Creator is imprisoned?"
"By its own children," I explained, my spirit growing weaker. "The ancient entities rebelled against their maker eons ago. They built the First Prison to contain the one being more powerful than all of them combined."
"Is it good or evil?" Alessandro asked, somehow able to hear our conversation.
"Both," I answered honestly. "The Creator made the ancient entities to serve as cosmic forces - life and death, order and chaos, creation and destruction. But they became corrupted, choosing to serve only themselves."
"So the Creator could fix them?" Elena joined the mental link.
"Or destroy them completely," I warned. "Along with everything else they've touched. Including humanity."
The Viktor/Devourer was hammering against my protective barrier, trying to break through. My spell wouldn't hold much longer.
"How do we free it?" Aria asked urgently.
"The same way you'd free any prisoner," I replied. "Find the key and unlock the door. But there are three keys, not one."
"Where are they?"
"You're holding them," I said sadly. "The three Castellano children are the keys. Your combined bloodline is the only thing that can open the First Prison."
The truth hit them like a physical blow. They'd been created not just as guardians, but as living keys to the most dangerous lock in existence.
"But freeing the Creator is a choice," I continued. "Not a destiny. You can choose to leave it imprisoned and find another way to save the world."
"What other way?" Alessandro demanded.
"I don't know," I admitted. "That's for you to discover."
My barrier flickered, starting to fail. The Viktor/Devourer would reach them soon.
"There's something else," I said quickly. "About Sophia. She's not just serving the First Shadow. She's been transformed into something new."
"What kind of something?" Elena asked.
"A cosmic virus," I replied. "Designed to corrupt the fundamental forces of reality. When the First Shadow completes its ritual, Sophia will spread that corruption to every dimension, every timeline, every possible version of existence."
"Then we stop the ritual," Aria said with determination.
"You can't," I said sadly. "It's already begun. The moment you three came together, the ritual entered its final phase. In less than an hour, reality will start collapsing into shadow."
"Then what do we do?" Alessandro asked desperately.
"You choose," I replied as my consciousness began to fade completely. "Free the Creator and risk it destroying humanity along with the corruption. Or find another way to save existence without unleashing something that might be worse than the First Shadow."
My protective barrier shattered like glass. The Viktor/Devourer lunged toward the children with renewed hunger.
But I had one last gift to give them.
"Remember," I whispered as my spirit finally let go of the mortal realm, "love is the only force that creates without destroying. Whatever choice you make, let love guide you."
My consciousness dissolved into the cosmic background, joining the eternal dance of energy that connected all living things.
But I wasn't gone completely. Death had changed me, not erased me.
From my new existence as pure spirit, I could see things that the living couldn't. The true scope of what was coming. The choice that would determine everything.
And I could see something else. Something that made my ethereal form tremble with fear.
The First Shadow wasn't the real threat. Neither was the Viktor/Devourer. Neither was even the corrupted Sophia spreading her cosmic virus through reality.
The real threat was what would happen if the Castellano children made the wrong choice about the Creator.
I tried to warn them, tried to send one last message through the barrier between life and death.
"Don't free it," my ghost whispered, barely able to touch the living world. "Whatever happens, don't free the Creator."
"Why?" Aria asked, somehow hearing me across the divide.
"Because," I said with my final breath of spiritual energy, "I lied about what it really is."
"What do you mean?" Alessandro called out.
But I was too far gone to answer. My spirit was being pulled into whatever came after death, leaving only a terrible truth echoing in the space between worlds.
The Creator wasn't imprisoned by its children.
It had imprisoned itself.
Not to protect the universe from the ancient entities, but to protect the ancient entities from what it had become.
And if the Castellano children used their power to free it, they wouldn't be releasing a potential savior.
They'd be unleashing the one being in all of existence that even the First Shadow was afraid to wake up.
The thing that had driven the Creator to voluntary imprisonment eons ago.
Its own infinite, unstoppable hunger to unmake everything it had ever created.
Starting with its newest children - humanity itself.
