Chapter 1029: Mary, Why Are You Here?

Felicity's father's surgery went well. Three days later, he was moved from the ICU to a regular room.

Timothy hadn't been home at all during this time.

Mary remembered how coldly he had rejected her and the hurtful things he had said, so she didn't want to deal with him.

But despite her feelings, she still needed to check on Felicity.

After work, she bought several dinners, planning to bring one for Timothy too.

After all, he had helped Felicity, and she needed to thank him.

However, just as she finished dinner with Felicity and was about to take the food to Timothy, she ran into Catherine outside the room.

Her initial excitement and nervousness quickly turned to calm.

"Mary, what are you doing here?" Catherine asked, puzzled.

Mary smiled politely. "A friend's father is hospitalized here. I'm just visiting."

Hospitalized?

Catherine raised an eyebrow and glanced at the room number behind Mary.

The attending doctor for this room was Timothy.

What a coincidence.

Catherine recalled their previous conversation about jewelry design, where Mary seemed very familiar with Timothy's home decor.

Now, Timothy had made an exception for a surgery related to Mary's friend.

One coincidence could be overlooked, but multiple coincidences suggested a secret between them!

Mary smiled politely at Catherine and was about to make an excuse to leave when Catherine suddenly spoke up. "Do you like the food from this place too? Timothy and I love it. I was just about to get some for him."

Mary forced a smile. "You should hurry then, or it might sell out."

Forget it.

Mary watched Catherine leave and returned to the room with the food.

How could she forget? Timothy had someone like Catherine by his side, someone who knew him well. He wouldn't miss a meal because of her.

She decided not to disturb them.

Mary sat quietly on the sofa in the hospital room, pouring water for Felicity.

Felicity insisted on staying with her father and hadn't rested well for days. Mary planned to stay with her tonight.

The hospital was quiet at night, but Mary had trouble sleeping.

After Felicity and her father fell asleep, Mary went out to the balcony.

The summer breeze and starry night were soothing.

Leaning on the railing, Mary took out her phone, intending to send Timothy a thank-you message.

But no matter how she phrased it, it didn't seem right.

She wrote and deleted, deleted and wrote, unable to find the right words.

Timothy, who had come to the balcony, watched Mary from behind, his expression unusually cold.

He had worked hard to help Mary, and she hadn't even thanked him. Instead, she was out here enjoying the breeze! She really had the nerve!

"Enjoying yourself?" Timothy asked softly as he approached Mary from behind.

Mary hadn't noticed anyone coming and was so startled she almost dropped her phone.

She turned around, still shaken, and saw it was Timothy. She quickly patted her chest to calm down.

He moved like a ghost, without a sound.

After composing herself, she replied, "It's okay."

"Okay? I've been running on fumes these past few days," Timothy said, clearly annoyed.

Mary paused, gripping her phone tighter.

Right, it had been days, and she hadn't even thanked him.

Swallowing, she looked at Timothy and asked, "How would you like to be thanked?"

Was that how you thank someone? With no sincerity at all.

Timothy's face grew colder, and he felt a pang in his stomach.

"How could I dare ask for your thanks? I'm practically starving."

"Why haven't you eaten?" Mary asked, puzzled. Catherine had said she was getting food for him.

Timothy felt even more annoyed. He had been working hard on the case, forgetting to eat, and Mary had the nerve to ask why he hadn't eaten?

"Wait here, don't worry. I'll be right back."

Before Timothy could say anything sarcastic, Mary hurried off.

Timothy frowned. Going out to buy food this late?

Before he could figure it out, Mary returned in a few minutes.

She handed him a bag.

"What's this?"

"Food. Eat up."

Food? How could she have bought it so quickly?

It was late, and even getting the elevator would take time.

"Leftovers?" Timothy asked suspiciously.

"Of course not," Mary replied, finding his suspicion odd. "It was meant for you. I just reheated it."

She had almost thrown it away.

"Is this all the thanks I get?" Timothy looked at Mary with disdain, thinking she was ungrateful.

Mary pouted, watching Timothy eat elegantly. Suddenly, she felt mischievous and leaned in, speaking in a high-pitched voice, "Dr. Reed, you're amazing! So young and already saving lives. You're the best! I'm your biggest fan!"

Timothy almost choked on his food at her exaggerated tone.

Mary laughed too.

Watching Timothy eat, she suddenly asked, "With your family background, why did you choose medicine?"

She knew Timothy had had a long-standing conflict with Douglas over his choice of medical school.

Timothy paused, looking at her with a complex expression, then gazed at the stars, lost in thought.

"Someone once told me that my hands could save countless lives."

He thought that was the greatest encouragement he had ever received, just to keep him going.

He had survived, so he wanted to make that statement a reality.

"And it was probably her wish too."

Mary's expression shifted subtly. "So, Catherine wanted to be a doctor, and you wanted to be with her."

Timothy didn't respond, and Mary fell silent.

Their conversation abruptly ended.

In the following days, Mary juggled work, home, and the hospital.

On the weekend, she arrived at the hospital early, smiling as she entered the room where Felicity's father, Ralph Miller, was watching TV.

"Mr. Miller, you're recovering well."

Ralph smiled. "Yes, the dizziness is gone, and I'm eating well. Thank you so much. I'll have to thank you properly once I'm discharged."
