Chapter 47: Searching For Her

The guy from the flower shop's instruction to the hospital wasn't hard to follow. I found the hospital without any hassle and went inside to find out where Allie was. The receptionist told me in which section she was in the hospital and I rushed off in that direction. At the third section of the hospital, I found another counter where a bunch of nurses were. I asked them to point me to Allie's room, but they refused and said that I should ask the doctor to see her. They took me to the doctor and I introduced myself to him. " Good day, doctor. I am Jack, Allie's Fiance. I've got the news that she is here in the hospital. What happened to her? Please tell me if she is okay. "

The doctor takes a deep breath and I could see in his expression that it is not good. I could already feel my heart drop into the pit of my stomach. He looks down at his clipboard. " Your fiance is fine, but some problems will put her on bed rest for a couple of weeks. I would advise not letting her stress at the moment and making sure that she stays calm and in bed until she is out of danger. " I sigh with relief.

" Is it possible for me to see her now? "

" I would happily show you her room, but unfortunately, we discharged her early this morning." hearing the words leave the doctor's mouth made me cold. I've missed Allie. If only I had come sooner this morning then I wouldn't have missed her.

" Doctor, can you maybe tell me how she got home? He looks at me confused. " She was taken home by some old woman who she works for, called Martha. "

Hearing the doctor say that Allie worked for the old woman made it feel like I received a blow to the gut. What does that mean? was she planning on not returning home? I feel a sharp pain in my chest. Is My Mate going to reject me? Was that the reason why I haven't heard anything from her yet? She started a new life without me. My wolf is whimpering so loud in my head that I can't think straight. He wants to find his mate. He misses her and so do I. We can't live without her. She is the reason for my existence. Without her, my life has no meaning. I don't know if I will ever be able to live my old life again. Life without her was lonely and now that I have found her I would never be able to let her go without a fight. This won't do. I would have to find out where she is and watch what is going on from a distance. " Docter, can you maybe tell me where Martha took my Fiance." He raises a brow and looks at me confused. " I would assume that the old woman took her home. " Hearing the doctor say that, I knew that he most probably didn't know where Allie or Martha lived and I don't want to ask too many questions because he might wonder why Allie's own fiance wouldn't even know where she lived.

On my way back to the small town, I decided to drive by the bookstore just to make sure it was open by now. Upon arriving, I could still see the closed sign hanging on the door. Disappointment rushes through my body. What is going on? Why haven't they opened yet? It is already noon. Maybe the reason for it not being open is because Allie isn't well. The doctor did say that she worked for the old woman and that Allie should stay on bed rest. I also remember telling the old woman to look after Allie until I arrived. So she most likely must be with Allie, taking care of her. I would just have to come by the store every day, to see if the old woman doesn't show up by any chance. I should have gotten the old woman's house address instead, but it is too late for that now. The next day I was at the store early until Late in the afternoon. I gave up and decided to go back to the chalet. If Martha hasn't arrived at the store by now, I doubt she will open the store in the late afternoon. I would simply have to come back tomorrow.

........................................................

In the upcoming days, Jack went back to the bookstore multiple times and was unsuccessful. The store is always closed when he arrives there. He couldn't just wait around hoping that someone might show up. He was getting restless and his wolf was eager to find his mate. She is sick and he must find out where she is. He doesn't know how bad her condition is or what is wrong with her. Jack decided to walk through the town asking everyone if they might know when the owner of the bookstore would be back, or where she might stay. But he had no luck. Someone working in the store next to the bookstore said that they heard a women scream and then an ambulance came to pick her up to take her to the hospital and they haven't seen the old woman since. They say that it looked like the lady was in a lot of pain when the ambulance came to pick her up. Hearing that, Jack felt bad. He should have tried to find her sooner, then all of this wouldn't have happened. Now she is lying somewhere in pain without family and friends looking over her. He wants to be there for her. Take care of her. She is his Mate.

Jack continued walking through the small town, asking anyone he could find if they might know where the owner of the bookstore lived. He had no luck, but he wouldn't give up that easily, so he continued his search. Jack decides to walk down one of the quieter streets where the houses are. There aren't any people in that street, but he is going to look anyway. He walks down the stone path and looks at the beautiful old building. Jack stops dead in his tracks, lifts his nose in the air and starts sniffing. " It can't be! " He says out loud and starts sniffing in the air again.

( Jack's POV )

I know that smell. My wolf's tail is starting to wag. He is like an excited little puppy waiting for his toy. I put my nose in the air just to get a better smell. To make sure I didn't imagine it. I sniffed the air deep into my lungs, and there it was. That sweet soft scent of Allie. That scent will drive me crazy and make me feel calm at the same time. " Mate, Mate " My wolf calls out. The scent is still strong, so she must be close by. I followed the scent through the quiet streets and then I made a left turn into a narrower street. As I turned, I caught a glimpse of an angel. My heart is pounding in my chest. It is her. It is Allie. I've finally found her. Her back is turned to me, so she doesn't see me. She is so breathtaking. She is wearing a long blue dress and her hair is hanging down her back.

I thought the doctor said that she should be in bed. But she looks perfectly fine. She is walking, so she must be better if she is up and about. I stand there at the corner of the street watching her walk slowly down the path when she suddenly stops. I can feel that something is wrong. She puts her hand to her head and she leans forward. It looks like she is about to fall. In the blink of an eye, I was next to her. I grabbed ahold of her just in time when she passed out in my arms. I pick her up bridal style and I notice in her face and body how much weight she lost and her skin is pale. It is not glowing the way it used to. "What happened to you, my sweet Allie? " I carry her back to the cruiser and put her down gently on the back seat. Her skin is cold to the touch. I must get her to the chalet as soon as possible. I get in the cruiser and take off so fast that the wheels of the cruiser spin on the road.

At the chalet, I pick Allie up gently from the cruiser and carry her to her previous bedroom where we slept in last time, and where we made love for the first time.

I put her lifeless body down on the bed and her skin is still so cold. I start stripping down until I'm just left with my underpants on my body. I get in the bed with her and pull her closer to my warm body and cover us both with a blanket. She still isn't waking up. My heart aches to see her like this. It looks like she is starving from all the weight she has lost. " This is all my fault. I should have found you sooner my sweet Allie. " I fold my arms even tighter around her lifeless body. " I am never letting you out of my sight again. " She gave a slight moan when I said that.
