Chapter 93: Who's This New Party?
Damian Black's POV:
It was right at that point that Nathan paused the video. He even managed to zoom in on the screen so that we could take a look at the bumper where the license plate was located. Sure enough, my eyes went wide with shock and frustration as I noticed that you couldn't even tell us which state the license plate was registered in. Somehow... He managed to obscure it all.
I could not believe what it was that I was seeing on the screen right now. Here I was, on the way to Europe so I could show my new bride the honeymoon of a vacation she never had, and yet, I'm here watching something I'm having a hard time even attempting to wrap my mind around. I could not believe it.
"The only thing that we could tell from the video is that the windows of the vehicle were completely blacked out. Other than that, even the color of the vehicle appears to be a custom slate black," Gerald added right then. "That in itself costs a pretty dime, so they either had to know someone or had it custom painted after the fact."
I didn't know what to say. I was the new boss who was about to take over everything I had longed to tend to for so long. Now, as I'm sitting here on my private jet, there was something that came to mind. I couldn't quite place my finger on it, but it gave me an eerie feeling that Kelly Anne might be the key to my undoing if I didn't find her adn fast.
I don't know how, but there was something about seeing that one vehicle pull up that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and I don't mean in a good way. This was all without knowing who it was that I was staring at on the screen. No one else seemed to know who this individual was.
At that point, as I continued to sit there watching this all play out, I couldn't think straight. I couldn't figure out which emotion was the one that was going to be more pressing as each second passed. I continued to watch the video in shock.
"Who in their right mind, if they knew who she was, would bother to help someone like her?" I couldn't help but ask at that point. Nathan stopped the video so we could discuss this for a moment. I looked around the room and asked, "And all of you are sure that you have not seen this individual around before? You're telling me you don't know who he is?"
As I looked around the conference table, all of my men looked around at each other before looking back at me and shaking their heads from side to side. I sat back in my chair that moment, visually frustrated, as I leaned to one side and pressed my lips to the front of my fist as my fingers were held lightly in front of my mouth.
I was having a hard time processing this, and I hadn't even seen the individual exit the vehicle yet.
"Go ahead and play the video," I told Nathan as he stood there to the side of the television on the wall.
Nathan turned the remote towards the TV, hitting a button to zoom out slightly so that we could see the entire scene play out instead of just from the zoomed-out position from under the hospital canopy.
"At least I'm able to zoom in on this," Nathan said as he had the frame adjusted to where we could all see what was about to pan out.
Then he hit play.
By this point, the vehicle had already come to a screeching halt. I could've only hoped that they stopped directly on top of Kelly Anne, but I couldn't get that lucky. It would've been even more exciting if the video had volume, and they had landed right on top of her. I would've loved to hear her scream in agony, knowing that she was broken and now run over.
However, that's not what happened at all. My eyes went wide at the same time my jaw clenched. I watched closely as a man who had been sitting in the back passenger seat exited his vehicle rather quickly, rushing around the front of the vehicle. I don't think she needed someone to rush up to her. He could've taken this time for all I was concerned.
"Do you have a different angle?" I asked Nathan. "You know... A camera at the corner of the building looking back towards the entrance of the hospital. That might help give us a different picture if you are able to zoom in on that as well."
"Yes, sir, we do," Nathan spoke up as he paused the video. "I can pull that up now if you like."
"Sure. Go ahead and pull it up," I said in that moment, then quickly corrected myself when I changed my mind. "You know what, wait just a moment. Go ahead and let this scene play out for the next ten seconds or so. Once I see how this goes, then you can change the viewing camera to the one at the corner of the building. I want to see what happens in that frame as well."
"All right, I can do that, boss," Nathan said, pushing a few buttons on the remote. "It will take just a moment."
I sat there patiently waiting on this when the video started to play again. Nathan backed it up slightly to where we could again see how the vehicle rushed upon Kelly Anne. I look forward to being able to see it from the next angle. This is where the vehicle blocked my view of her as they got close?
Sure enough, I watched the man in the back passenger seat exit the vehicle again as he rushed around and closed his door as he made his way to the front.
"You would have thought a regular man would've left the door open," I said as I watched this play out again. "Not closing it as he did so unless there is something inside he didn't want anybody else to get a glimpse of."
"I see that," Andre chimed in this time. "I only wish I could get a good look at his face. That way I might be able to see who this is."
"Precisely," I spoke up right then. "Has anyone seen his face?"
