Chapter 250: Who Was It Then?

Chapter 250: Who Was It Then?

Kelly Anne's POV:

"All you have to do is try, and I will listen to whatever it is that you have to say to me," I told Jasper as he continued to lightly stroke the hair above my right ear with his hand placed on the side of my cheek.

I loved this, soaking in this simple moment as I was still lying there on his arm as we were relaxing after that horrific incident earlier in the day. Well, not that I had any clue as to what time it was. All I cared for was that I was lying there in his bed in the penthouse suite with his arms draped around me.

"I tell you what, Jasper," I told him this time. "I will do my best to understand anything and everything that you tell me."

I wanted him to know that I was willing to do whatever it took. However, in return, I wanted to know that no matter what, he wouldn't leave me at my all-time low. Shane has done that more times than I can count. It's pathetic, honestly. I don't know if there's a way that any man could understand how I was feeling at that precise moment. I was falling for Jasper. No, I take that back. I fell for Jasper, literally right in front of his vehicle, the day we met just over a week ago. Now I was completely head over heels for him.

I can't believe that I fell hard at this point. The more I thought about it, the more I began to realize that I don't think I could live another day without Jasper in my life. I couldn't care less what happened, Shane. When I had the strength to do so, I would definitely make an attempt to tell Jasper who taunted my thoughts. That Shane haunted my memories, making various threats that he had beaten into me, causing me to store these particular memories in the deepest part of my mind on the whim that I thought I could escape him.

Well, here we are. I am no longer with Shane. I even filed for divorce about a week ago. There's no question how that was going to turn out either, and I would have to deal with it when it came time to cross that particular proverbial bridge. As for now, I wanted to remain by Jasper's side. I would do whatever it took in order to keep Jasper and his men safe. The question is, with Jasper and his men want the same?

I know that as time passes us by, people change. Some change for the better, and others, as in Jane's case, change for the worse, even taking others out along the way just because you think it'll make you feel better in your situation, because it says 'miserable' and is pathetic, as the life you live. I know that was Shane's possible excuse. But it was not a plausible one.

"Is there something that you want to tell me?" I asked Jasper, trying to maintain a soft tone, knowing this was a sensitive topic.

There was so much going through my mind at that precise moment. The last thing I wanted to do was come across as harsh. The last thing I wanted was to follow in Shane's footsteps, bringing my chosen mate down. Wait, where did those particular thoughts come from? Is that what I should actually consider, Jasper? A mate?! It's not like he was a werewolf or anything. Sure, he, on occasion, had the advantage of reading my mind. That doesn't mean anything. There's no way Jasper could be anything of the sort.

"Meine Liebe," Jasper called out to me, bringing me out of my thoughts as I turned over to look at him, not even realizing that I broke eye contact for a moment as I was rummaging within my own mind. "You're doing it again."

"What?" I asked him as I tried not to choke whenever I swallowed that moment. "What am I doing?"

Jasper closed his eyes for the first time as he lightly shook his head back and forth. When he opened them next, he still continued to touch the side of my face, stroking my hair lightly, even going so far as to tuck it behind my ear.

"Did you give me a bath?" I asked, completely unaware as to where that particular thought came from.

This time, he narrowed his eyebrows as he had displayed a questionable expression, as if I realized that. "How do you know that you took a bath, I mean?"

"What do you mean, how do I know?" I asked as I tilted my head slightly, trying to figure out why he would ask that particular question in the manner in which he asked it. "You were the one who gave me a bath? Correct?"

Suddenly, I got the sensation that there was something that had happened while I was obviously passed out. Oh my,... I thought to myself. Did somebody else happen to see me? Who was it? Who is here? Was that the case? Did somebody else happen to see me completely naked? Was somebody else here who gave me a bath? There was no point in attempting to stop my thoughts at this precise moment. I don't know why I had the ability.

"No, no, Meine Liebe, it's all right," Jasper said, cutting into my thoughts, trying to regain a sense of control over my emotions, and I was thankful for it. I was willing to surrender whatever control I needed to as long as I knew that Jasper would remain there right by my side. "I am not going anywhere. You don't have to worry about. Yes, you did have a bath. No, no one else, only."

At that precise moment, Jasper looked away. I knew he wasn't telling me everything. I attempted to cross my arms as I narrowed my eyebrows at him whenever I asked. "All right, I will give you the benefit of the doubt. Who was it then?"

"Dr. Miller," Jasper said, looking right up at me without any hesitation this time.

This time, when I narrowed my eyebrows, it wasn't in frustration but more of a questionable expression. "Dr. Miller?" I asked as I looked away once more, trying to place the reference. Once I had, I immediately turned back to look at him. "Why was Dr. Miller here? What happened while I was out of it? Please don't delay this time, I really need to know."

At this precise moment, Jasper shifted his position to sit up on the bed, as the covers fell way down to his waist, I realized that he was lying there wearing a pair of lounge pants. I lightly shook my head, knowing that if he was the one who gave me a bath, and there was obviously a moment where he could've gone and put on some lounge pants. He then reached over to me and helped me sit up. At that precise moment, I realized that I was also wearing something, but it was unlike anything I had worn before.
