Chapter 42: Entanglement
Vivian hurried after him, "Adam, where are you going?"
"Leave me alone!"
Adam shouted without looking back. He had to go find out what was going on!
Vivian watched this scene with gritted teeth and punched the wall hard. "Emily, do you have to compete with me for everything? Why can't you just completely disappear from Adam's world! Why do you always have to haunt us like this?"
She thought bitterly, but was completely powerless to change anything. All she could do was vent by cursing in her mind, then continue being a useless waste.
At the Hart Manor, Emily had already returned home with Jack. Fortunately, Alex and Sarah both happened to be out.
Perhaps because Emily had come back, their biggest worry had been lifted, and they felt much more relaxed. They even had the mood to go out and enjoy themselves together these days, which was quite surprising.
"Jack, are your injuries okay?"
Emily looked at Jack with concern. Although Noah had invited them to hang out at the race track after he arrived, she was worried about Jack, so she declined and insisted on taking him to the hospital first before feeling comfortable going home.
"Didn't the doctor already say it's just superficial wounds? You still made me do all those tests - such a hassle. Good thing Mom and Dad don't know, or they'd make a big fuss again."
Jack said helplessly, but he knew in his heart that Emily was worried about him, and he wasn't ungrateful enough to not appreciate that.
"You've got some nerve saying that - you almost scared me to death."
Emily breathed a sigh of relief, but felt even more hatred toward Vivian. "I never thought she'd be so vicious, willing to try to kill me just for a man."
Jack's face also turned cold. "Vivian is really calculating and crazy, willing to do anything to get what she wants. You have to be extra careful from now on and absolutely can't let her succeed."
"Jack, I know. You don't need to worry about me."
Emily nodded gently. Besides, she now had some dirt on Vivian. As long as she found the right opportunity to expose it, she could still ruin Vivian's reputation.
Meanwhile, Adam had already arrived outside the Hart Manor.
"Damn it, why is the security here getting stricter and stricter?"
Adam hid in the shadows and saw a group of bodyguards standing guard, their silhouettes making it impossible for him to get close.
Naturally, he was very unwilling to give up and stayed hidden in the dark, trying to find a chance to sneak in.
Unfortunately, he never found an opportunity.
"The security here is so tight - the people living here must be either rich or powerful. Could Emily really have found herself a wealthy sugar daddy? That seems to be the only explanation. Otherwise, how could she afford to race cars?"
Adam ground his teeth in resentment, wishing he could grab Emily right now and interrogate her!
Too bad he couldn't even see her face now, so naturally he could only hold his anger inside, planning to confront her harshly when he finally saw Emily.
"Who's there? Trying to sneak into the villa? Get rid of him immediately!"
Just as Adam was about to climb over the wall, he was spotted by the security guards inside. They immediately shone their flashlights over and sternly shouted at him.
Seeing this, Adam fled in panic. Given his status, if these people caught him trying to sneak into the villa, it would definitely make big news.
Wouldn't he become the laughingstock of the entire upper-class circle?
After narrowly escaping the security guards' pursuit, Adam returned to his car in frustration and pounded the steering wheel hard.
"Emily, you're really something."
Adam muttered through gritted teeth, then suddenly had an idea. He pulled out his phone and called Emily!
The call was answered quickly, and Emily's puzzled voice came through. "Who is this?"
"Emily! It's me, Adam!"
Emily was speechless for a moment. This Adam, relying on having multiple phone numbers, kept changing numbers to harass her every few days. What was the point?
"Emily, I want to see you."
The sound of running water came through the phone. Adam paused, then quickly realized - Emily must be taking a shower?
She answered his call while showering - wasn't that deliberate?
"I don't want to see you." Emily's voice was cold. "I think I've made it very clear to you that there's nothing between us anymore. Can you please stop bothering me?"
"Emily, how long are you going to keep this up? You're not a child anymore - how can you be so temperamental?"
Adam asked, suppressing his anger.
Emily rolled her eyes. "If you can't understand plain language, fine, just stay away from me. Goodbye!"
With that, she hung up decisively.
Adam stared at his phone in a daze. "Emily, looks like you're really mad at me this time. But I don't believe you'll give up on me that easily! Sooner or later, you'll come back to me obediently."
He put down his phone casually, but still felt a suppressed anger inside. After thinking it over, he decided to drive to a bar to let off some steam and get drunk.
"Emily, I won't believe your lies. You think saying these things will make me give in to you? Impossible! If I really did what you wanted, I'd be falling right into your trap!"
Adam muttered through gritted teeth, completely convinced that Emily was playing hard to get!
Did she really think doing this would give her control over him? Dream on!
On the other side, after Noah finished his business, he received a call from Leo. "Noah, I heard you guys witnessed something really interesting at the race track today. Why didn't you call me for such fun?"
"If you like watching drama so much, go by yourself next time."
"So boring! By the way, do you have plans tonight? There's a newly opened bar, and I heard the atmosphere is pretty good. Interested in grabbing a drink together?"
Leo suggested enthusiastically. He always liked going out to play, and places like bars and clubs were his regular haunts.
But he had his principles when it came to having fun - he wouldn't touch drugs and was very principled. This was one of the main reasons Noah could maintain a friendship with him.
"We'll see. I might have other plans tonight."
"So boring! I'm telling you, I own this bar, so you won't have to pay if you come! Just think of it as supporting me. Though I can't go tonight - my dad's back and is about to grill me!"
"Got it. I probably won't have anything major going on tonight, so I'll consider stopping by."
Noah reluctantly agreed. Leo had put it that way, and refusing would seem cold and heartless.
Although he didn't care about such things, he did value this friendship.
