ALPHA ENRIQUE'S SUSPICION
Smart move for a male dominant society!
He was watching her walk around like a busy supervisor, even helping with the stuff that she could lift with her frail body. This woman sure had the stamina after their last night session, even he himself had slept out of tiredness when the sun came up.
This was the first time after marriage that he saw her smile whole heartedly. Alpha Enrique had no idea that she was capable of anything else than getting shy and being a complaining little prick who would debate about literally everything in this world.
Does helping the people mean this much to her?
Alpha Enrique thought back of last night when they were in the cave. He had never been afraid of seeing people die but last night when he saw her run towards the fire, he felt his heart tremble in fear. He had seen his father die right in front of him but he didn't feel anything, this was the first time. This told him that he really values this woman, just like how he valued his mother.
This was both frustrating and flattering at the same time. His wolf couldn't help but tease him more about this- he was supposed to be the heartless knight who never batted an eyelid before killing people. But now, he is just a caring husband who is afraid of seeing his wife getting hurt.
Alpha Enrique ignored it as something else was going on in his mind. What did she dream of that time? Who was she begging to be taken along with?
The man felt like something really traumatizing must have happened to her but he knew her very well, she won't ever admit it. As her husband, he would have to find it on his own and help her heal from those scars.
But as for now…
"So excellent of you to empty the storage house, that too this early in the morning." He opened his mouth and said out in a loud, frost voice grabbing everyone's attention downstairs. They, including Licia, darted their eyes upstairs to see the Alpha descend down the stairs slowly.
He had no particular expression on his face which made it difficult for anyone to predict what was going inside his head. Everyone could even notice how the temperature of the entire hall seemed to have dropped significantly since he had come. They couldn't help but halt on their steps and stare downstairs at their own feet, feeling scared and oppressed by him.
Alpha Enrique's strong and focused eyes swam across the whole room before they landed on Licia. He stared right into her eyes as he spoke, "What a hardworking and diligent Luna I am blessed with. You have already started working and going hard on yourself on the next day of our wedding. Don't you have too much energy and this sense of responsibility, my Luna?"
Licia immediately rushed upstairs with a worried face, she started, "Apologies, My Alpha. Did we wake you up? Were we being too loud? We did not wish to disturb your sleep…"
"Loud?" The man cocked an eyebrow and casted a very sarcastic grin, "Ah well, it wasn't just me. The noise you all made was more than enough to wake all the people in the next pack to us."
"Huh?" Licia tried to play dumb, she did not know if she was supposed to laugh or cry when he was exaggerating things like this. It was too early for her to understand if he was seriously scolding her or just making fun of her like he did on a few occasions back then.
"By the way." Alpha Enrique suddenly said, pulling the girl back to reality, "I only gave you all the authority as the Luna of Ravenwood pack just yesterday and I see you are already navigating through your powers, taking the stock of all our supplies. Aren't you too enlightened about your role as a Luna in such a short period of time?" He threw a glance at her and grinned coldly, "My oh my! How swift, indeed."
Licia broke out in cold sweat when she heard his words. She tried her best to conceal her nervousness behind her sweet smile and said, "No, it's not like that. Polene assisted me really well. So…"
The woman couldn't make herself continue under his fierce gaze. She was used to that look, many ministers who would visit their castle for a feast or just to stay would look at her like that.
Those eyes which would wander all over her as if they could see her naked, trying to find out what was up with her to satiate their feeling that something is just not right with what is going on.
Looks like… Enrique was suspicious of her!
She knew this was bound to happen but did not expect it to be this sooner, it was earlier than she had wanted and calculated.
Moreover, there were so many people here today. They had just started to have their faith in them. If they were made to see the Alpha's wrath on the very first day, they would be frightened and things would go back to how it was in her father's reign.
She had to put an end to this situation before it got worse.
She smiled brightly and said, "Polene is in the kitchen, preparing the breakfast. You must be hungry, Alpha. I will send words to have your breakfast brought to you right away."
The Alpha was a little stunned seeing the drastic changes in the supposedly gloomy atmosphere as soon as Licia smiled. The people who looked frightened and anxious looked a lot relieved now that they have heard Licia's positive tone. Yesterday, the man had seen looks of hopelessness and despair in their eyes; the town people were wallowing in disappointment and resignation. They knew that I had abandoned this land until now. By my interaction and lack of empathy for them yesterday, they must have also realized by now that their Alpha doesn't care about them even after witnessing firsthand the devastation in their town.
But now…
