Chapter 83: The Luna He Rejected
I couldn't help it. I felt sorry for Sophia. The way her father discarded her like she was trash was something I couldn’t comprehend. I still couldn’t understand how someone that was supposed to be your guardian could treat you so badly. And I am not only talking about Sophia’s dad, but mine as well. They saw us as an object that they could use, and once we played our role, we were nothing more than trash.
Kaid and I talked in the morning and decided to bury her in the pack if no one came in a week to claim her body. I didn’t want to throw her body into the woods, she was still a human being, and I'd treat her with the minimum of respect.
Was it something crazy to do? Probably, but my heart was telling me that it was the right thing to do. Even if she tried to kill me, she probably did it because of her father’s manipulation. She had a sad life, and even a sadder ending.
I was walking to the training grounds when Esmeralda approached me. She looked worried, and her face told me that something huge had happened.
“Hi Esme, what’s wrong?” She deviated her eyes from mine, that was a common thing that she did when she wanted to tell me something but wasn’t too comfortable to do so.
“Hmm, do you think Andrew is going to kill me because I slept with his sister?” I was dumbfounded. She did what? When did they start getting close? If she is so worried, it is because she doesn’t know about their mate bond yet.
I didn’t say a word. I didn’t know what to answer. Was Andrew going to be mad? I had no clue I hadn’t spoken too much with him. Even if he got mad, Esmeralda could fry his ass. What I was worried about was that my friend was still clueless about her mate bond.
I wanted to intervene, to talk to Michelle and tell her that I knew about their bond, but in doing so I would be revealing to her that I could hear what she thought and what she said with her wolf. It was a complicated situation and Esmeralda noticed that I was hiding something from her.
“Ivy, what is it?” She said while she looked at me with her eyes half-closed. It was clear that she suspected something. But what could I tell her?
“Look, Michelle needs to tell you something, but I won’t reveal what it is unless it is extremely necessary.” She rolled her eyes at me, she knew that I hated revealing other people’s secrets and had even told me several times why I had that power if I was not going to use it. “Now, regarding Andrew. Why are you worried? You could beat his ass with your eyes closed.”
“I could beat Kaid if I wanted to.” Athena instinctively growled at her. Even if I knew that she was joking, Athena was very protective of our mate. “The only person that could defeat me is you sister, and that is why I decided to be your friend.”
I laughed at her last remark. It was true though, one time we fought, and she almost lost. I wasn’t at my full potential, so now there was no chance that she could win. They got me thinking, once Kaid and I changed, how much stronger would he be?
“You seem to be in deep thought as well.” She told me, and it was true. We had a lot to organize as Kaid was going to take me to a cabin deep inside the forest. Only Andrew and Silvia were coming to accompany us, in case anything went wrong.
“I am. I don’t know what it is like to be a Lycan, and I simply don’t know what to expect. It all happened so soon that I feel like I’m jumping from problem to problem.” She put her hand over my shoulder, thanks to the height difference, she looked like a mother consoling her child.
“I get it. Once it seemed like I was going to drown in problems. Every time I fix something, another one damaged. I learned to not overthink it, and take the problems one at a time. Eventually, they will end.” I looked at the ground, that was what I was feeling right now. It wasn’t even a month and so much had changed.
Kaid and I found each other again. He tried to reject me, but I did it first. We fought, he apologized, I met his fiancè, she killed me, I told my biggest secret to everyone, I went into heat, we marked each other, we went back to Blue Lake, I was kidnapped, I killed my kidnapper. I learned new things about my mother and captured her killer. I fought and beat Bianca, I ended the mating process with Kaid, I fought Sophia and killed her, and now I was about to become a Lycan. It was a crazy month.
“Well, at least we didn’t die.” Yeah, that is a good thing. But is it ever going to end?
“Have faith, Ivy.” It is hard, Athena. I just want some vacations from all the drama. It is exhausting.
“How long did it take?” Esmeralda looked at me, her eyes changed for a second, like she had remembered something that saddened her.
“A lot of time. But I was alone, you are not. You are loved by a lot of people, Ivy, and that was a luxury that I didn’t have.” This only proved once again that Esmeralda’s past wasn’t pretty at all. I had always tried to ask her what happened, but she always changed the topic. It was clear that, whatever it was, she hadn’t healed just yet.
“Thank you for being there for me. You’ve made my life a lot easier.” She hugged me, and for the first time I hugged her back. I was never one to love physical contact, but now, I wanted to thank my friend.
The rest of the day was uneventful. Kaid had a lot of work to do, while Silvia taught me some of my obligations as Luna. She also helped me find a teacher for me, and I started classes next week.
When it was almost six, we returned to the pack house. We had already packed our things, so there wasn’t much left to do.
As I finished getting the few things that I was missing, Kaid finally arrived. He had some documents in his hands that he left on the table.
“Hi beautiful.” He said with a huge smile on his face. I loved that even though it was clear that he was tired, he still took the time to be sweet to me.
“Hello handsome.” I approached him and gave him a kiss on his cheek, but when I tried to turn around he grabbed my hand and spun me until I landed against his chest once again. He lifted my chin with his fingers and gave me a breathtaking kiss.
“That is how you kiss your mate love. Now, are you ready to head to the cabin?” My mind was still spinning from that fantastic kiss, so I couldn’t do anything else than nod my head.
We left the house and took one of the cars. This time Kaid was driving. I was on the passenger side, while Silvia and Andrew were in the back. We also took a few things to prepare something to eat.
The cabin was an hour away from the pack, but we couldn’t access it by car. We had to leave the vehicle in a clearing. The men took the heavy bags while Silvia and I carried part of the food. It wasn’t too far away, so we got there in about fifteen minutes. Kaid opened the cabin and made Silvia and I enter first. I thought I was going to see a cabin full of cobwebs, but to my surprise it was rather clean. The rustic decorations gave it a beautiful touch.
“We are just going to leave our stuff here. After the shift, we will come back to eat and rest. Is that okay love?” Kaid hugged me from behind as he hid his nose in the crook of my neck.
“Ewww don’t make up in front of me.” Silvia covered her eyes while she gagged like she had seen the most disgusting thing ever. I laughed at her reaction while Kaid rolled his eyes.
“I’ve seen much worse from you two, you know.” Silvia and Andrew blushed, and I wished I hadn’t peeked at their minds.
“Anyway. We have to go, we should reach the pond, and it is a couple of miles away.” Andrew reminded us. Silvia wanted to whine, but her mate quickly shushed her and took her hand to leave the cabin. Kaid and I laughed while we exited as well.
Once we reached the pond, I was amazed by the scenery. The full moon’s glow bathed the entire scene. Fireflies were all over the place, like tiny stars that surrounded the pond. They cast their mesmerizing light upon the water’s surface, like they were floating in the water. I could hear a lot of sounds, the living symphony of nature, with the water moving gently, the chorus of the frogs and crickets, and the leaves moving with the breeze.
A sense of peace washed over me, and I couldn’t imagine a better place to welcome my Lycan self. Kaid had found the perfect spot for me to feel safe during my transformation, and I thanked him by pulling him for a kiss, which he gladly accepted.
“Thank you honey, for everything.” It was the first time that I had given him a pet name, and it felt amazing.
“You deserve the world, my love.” We looked at each other, it was as if our souls were touched when I felt a ripping pain in my chest. It had begun, my Lycan was coming.
