Chapter 59: Promising in Anxiety

“You should have told me you were coming with me to the afterlife and our child.”

I replied to Rion’s words with a hard pinch on his waist. He cried out in pain and reflexively jumped from his current position.

“As bad as my life is, I don’t want to die in vain. Even when I’m at my worst, I dare not ask for death,” I admitted. I thought perhaps I was naive or stupid. However, I have always believed that everything will be beautiful in time.

“You see, my mother also said what you said. My hunches are never wrong; you’re the next queen for the kingdom of Cardinia.”

My imagination spun momentarily, the imaginary picture Rion had told me. Being the queen of a country had never been in my imagination. I never imagined that I would meet a handsome prince who loved me.

“What if our relationship never works out?” I asked idly. Maybe Rion and I were meant to be Alpha and Omega, but what if our relationship wasn’t meant to work? We have a bond, but that bond is not united.

“I’ll try, no matter how many times I have to fail.”

Rion’s reply was always patriotic and uplifting, unlike me.

“I’m an ordinary human, unlike you, who can live hundreds of years and maybe even forever; I have my limits in this world. If it’s a waste of time, I’d rather not force the situation.”

“If you don’t want to move, you must wait for me to come. I will continue to do so until your time limit ends.”

It felt unfair between the two of us. I was so in love but was restricted by my circumstances.

“You have to understand that loving me means you have to be ready to share half of your life to grieve and be lonely,” I said with the sadness that was starting to come over me. I, who was only a mortal, could not stay by Rion’s side all the time he had. The difference was too obvious, stretching between us like a gaping chasm wide and deep.

“Let me enjoy the time I have left with you. Although I know, in the end, I will only have to remember you in my memories as long as I am breathing.”

I smiled in emotion at Rion’s words, which were so deep and moving in my heart. But I couldn’t decide now. I still want to see other possibilities and test them. Everything in this world can change, and that includes Rion as well.

“Go to sleep, don’t worry about anything. You’ll be safe with me.”

**

As he said last night, I woke up a little better but still slightly feverish. The dizziness I’d been experiencing had lessened a little, and I still needed plenty of rest. Rion was painstaking and unburdened, taking care of me and keeping me company in the apartment; I even scolded him for missing work; we argued about it.

“I’ll be fine; my condition has improved quite a bit.”

I looked at Rion, who was busy focusing on the laptop he had placed on the table in front of the sofa in the living room he was currently sitting on. I sat on the couch opposite to him.

“There’s nothing important today; after all, I’ve asked my secretary to rearrange my schedule at the office,” Rion argued without looking at me, who was looking at him a little annoyed. Rion was seriously working while I watched a fantasy-themed television series that told the story of the lord of hell who got tired of the situation in hell; he then went to Earth and helped a female detective catch criminals.

This drama was quite entertaining for me, where the main male and female characters were from different worlds, one mortal and the other immortal; the situation was almost the same as the one I had with Rion. They fell in love, but their relationship didn’t work out.

Will my relationship with Rion be like that, too? Does fate bind us but not to be united?

Just thinking about it makes me claustrophobic, let alone if that’s the case. I’ll probably spend half my life trying to forget Rion and the other half trying to figure out what Rion said last night.

“Are you going to watch that ridiculous drama until the end?”

Rion’s question made me turn to him with a frown.

“This drama entertains me.”

“Not with me,” Rion quickly denied. My gaze still lingered on him.

“Why? You don’t even know the story.”

Rion remained focused on his laptop and his work. He raised his eyebrows and frowned.

“An interracial love story that I find ridiculous.”

“Don’t we?”

Rion shifted his gaze to me and looked at me seriously.

“We’re still in the balance. Even though you’re an ordinary human, half of me still has the human element. Never mind, let’s not debate that silly idea; you can watch another, much more useful cooking channel.”

I rolled my eyes and changed the channel according to Rion’s suggestion. I found a Japanese cooking channel. A few minutes into the television program, my stomach rumbled with hunger. I looked down at my stomach in embarrassment.

“That’s what I was waiting for; you just sit there sweetly, and I’ll cook for you.”

For me, watching Rion cook was much more interesting than watching television. So sexy and seductive. My mind got out of control because of it; several times, I tried to drive away my thoughts of Rion with me on my bed without a single thread, but it always failed. The thoughts came too often; even when I tried to turn my attention to the television, I glanced at him repeatedly.

When Rion brought the food he had cooked for me to me. I was still caught up in the arousal that I was trying to suppress. Rion knelt by the long sofa I was sitting on and handed me a spoon to taste his cooking first. I tasted the creamy soup, and it was, you guessed it, never disappointing.

“This is good,” I said as I licked my lips to clean off the creamy soup residue. Rion fed me painstakingly after he forced me. After emptying my plate, I drank quite a bit and felt better. I burped after drinking the water.

“Sorry,” I said after that small burp. Rion smiled, which affected me; I took a deep breath to neutralize the turmoil of passion that hadn’t yet left. Rion placed the tray with my dirty dishes on the table, and then unexpectedly, he kissed me and gently pushed me to lie down on the sofa while his body was on top of mine.

“You think I can’t feel it, too?!”

His amber eyes lit up like a flame that warmed me in winter. We repeated our last kiss, but it was more intense and passionate this time. I couldn’t resist the charms that Rion offered until we made love on this sofa. Rion did it gently for fear of the baby, but I wanted a little wild play as if a thirsty part of me was inside.

“Have you met the omega man yet?” After our second time on the couch, I asked, and we were lying down with me in Rion’s arms under the covers.

“I did, but I felt something familiar about him.”

Those words made my heart skip a beat, but I tried to keep my expression so as not to be surprised.

“Familiar? Like what?” I asked curiously.

“I don’t know; it’s hard to explain; physically, he’s a man, but my instincts as an Alpha are never wrong; that man and you have the same allure.”

I paused, my mind immediately searching for an excuse to disguise the truth that was about to be revealed.

“Is it because he’s an omega? You must have guessed wrong this time; if your Alpha instinct reacts to that guy, it’s natural; he’s an omega and again belongs to your kind, while I’m a normal human. Maybe it’s because you’re used to me that it affects your senses.”

I hoped that excuse would make sense to Rion.

“You said he was in a relationship with your mother, right?!”

My heart wanting to burst out of my chest, I swallowed dryly and nodded reluctantly.

“You once told me about your mother not wanting to discuss your father. Does that omega man have any information about your father?”

I paused for a few minutes to think of the right answer.

“He knows, but I haven’t had a chance to talk to him much.”

My answer wasn’t a complete lie; I wouldn’t have talked to my father much. Our relationship still felt awkward and new, though I was trying to get used to each other’s existence.

“So, he knows your father’s identity?”

I exhaled and nodded.

“He promised to tell me everything.”

Remembering the promise of meeting with my father this weekend, I hoped my condition would have improved by then.
