Chapter 135: Bed Or Couch
Logan’s Point of View
Thousands of thoughts raced through my mind, and I didn’t even know which one to follow.
But there was one thought that was louder than all the others.
I couldn’t give Dawn up.
Not after everything that had happened.
What I felt for her wasn’t some flimsy emotion that would disappear in a few days. It was an obsession that had entwined itself around my very soul.
I wanted her in a way that felt impossible to control.
It was like a thirst that could never be quenched. No matter how much I had of her, I would always want more. I wanted her completely. I wanted her so deeply embedded in my life that there would never be a version of my future without her in it.
And this wasn’t the kind of feeling I could simply ignore, I have tried, I have pursued but it wasn’t working.
I couldn’t pretend it was platonic when every part of me wanted her.
Every time I looked at her, my thoughts became dangerously difficult to control. I wanted to pull her closer, erase every inch of distance between us, and burying myself in her creaming hot heat until she understands what she does to me as well.
I couldn’t see a future where Dawn and I simply remained step-siblings.
It wasn’t going to work.
“There’s only one room,” Dawn complained.
Her eyes widened as she stared at the hotel receptionist, looking as though they might fall out of their sockets.
“Oh, come on, honey.” Her mother sighed. “You know we tried to get you both separate rooms, but…” She glanced around helplessly. “This is the third hotel we’ve tried tonight, and none of them have two rooms available. Everything is completely booked. Everywhere.”
She gestured toward the windows, where rain hammered relentlessly against the glass.
“And this rain isn’t letting up. We can’t keep driving around looking for another place.”
“I agree with your mother,” my father added, looking at Dawn with a serious expression. “I know it’s uncomfortable, but please, can you manage for one night?”
Dawn opened her mouth, but he continued.
“The radio said there’s supposed to be a storm later tonight. This rain is only the beginning.”
I glanced at Dawn, and raised an eyebrow. She looked horrified by the idea of sharing a room with me, and I had to admit, I found that strangely amusing. Because she had no idea how difficult that single room was about to make things for me.
“I don’t mind staying in the same room with her. We’ve done it before, so why can’t we do it again?” Dawn glared at me, and I immediately understood the meaning behind that look.
‘We’ve done it before. That’s exactly why we can’t do it again.’
She didn’t need to say it aloud. I could read her like an open book.
“Please,” her mother begged. “You’re step-siblings now. This shouldn’t be a big deal. It’s only for one night.”
Dawn rolled her eyes.
“Fine. I was just hoping I could have a little privacy.” Our parents exchanged a look before holding hands and kissing again.
I rolled my eyes and started walking away, already irritated by their relentless PDA.
Dawn followed behind me, her steps small and measured.
The moment we reached the elevator; she moved beside me and turned to face me.
“I know you must be thrilled that we’re going to be sharing a room.”
“Of course,” I replied without hesitation. “Because I want to sleep with you.”
Her eyes widened as they quickly flickered back, thankfully, our parents were still in the reception, doing their romantic stuff, her face went pale, and she instinctively took a step backward.
I almost laughed.
“Relax,” I added. “I know you’re not going to let me anywhere near you. I’ll stay in my corner of the room.”
She said nothing, but I could see how tense she was.
And I couldn’t ignore how strongly her presence affected me. Her scent seemed to linger around me, making it harder to think clearly the longer she stayed close.
She had no idea how much power she had over me. I turned my attention toward the elevator doors, refusing to say anything else.
A soft beep sounded, and the steel doors slid open.
I stepped outside first, and Dawn followed, I walked ahead of her, my strides quicker than usual.
Our parents were only one room away.
And as much as I hated the thought of hearing anything I definitely did not want to hear tonight, there was nothing we could do about it.
I slid the keycard against the reader.
A green light flashed, and the lock clicked. I pushed the door open and glanced over my shoulder at Dawn, who was standing quietly behind me.
Her cheeks flushed the moment our eyes met.
And then I realized something.
She had been doing that since yesterday, her reactions to me had changed.
The way she looked at me, the way she avoided my eyes. The way she suddenly became quiet whenever I got too close.
Something was going on.
And even now, she wasn’t arguing with me about my feelings for her. For once, she wasn’t denying them, and that made me even more suspicious.
Because whatever was happening inside Dawn’s head… I had a feeling she was finally starting to feel it too.
“There are going to be rules,” she said the moment I locked the door. “You sleep on the couch.”
“And why exactly am I the one sleeping on the couch?” I asked curiously as I took off my jacket.
“Because you’re the man. You’re supposed to be a gentleman.”
“Or we could just share the bed.” I grinned. “I promise not to touch you.” I paused, letting my eyes linger on hers. “Without your permission, of course.”
She frowned before shaking her head vehemently.
But I could tell she had considered it.
What a bad girl.
She dropped her purse and phone onto the bed, almost as if she were already claiming her territory.
“No. You’re sleeping on the couch because you’re the man. And I’m sleeping on the bed.” I stared at her, and then at the couch.
There was no way I was sleeping on that couch. It looked ridiculously small and uncomfortable, and I was too tall for it. I could already imagine waking up tomorrow with a stiff neck and an aching back.
“And if you’re not comfortable sleeping on the couch…” she began in an annoyingly calm voice. “You’re not exactly much of a gentleman anyway, so I guess I’ll just sleep on the couch.”
I chuckled to myself, was that really her attempt of trying to manipulate me?
“I don’t really care.” I leaned down. “I’m not sleeping on the couch.”
She gaped at me; I raised both eyebrows.
What?
Was she expecting me to say, oh, since you’re bothered by my presence, I will sleep on the couch.
Not happening.
I pulled off my tie, kicked off my shoes, and left them wherever they landed before walking toward the bed.
“You’re such a jerk,” she muttered. I smirked.
“First time?” I plopped down onto the mattress as she shook her head. “Just swallow your pride and join me.”
