Chapter 81

Joanne pulled up beside a gray Cadillac and with her head buried in her palms, she rested it against the steering wheel.

“Logan is definitely going to be mad at me.” She muttered, hitting the horn several times not minding the noise she was creating. She only stopped when one of the wardens walked up to her car.

“Madame, are you alright?” He asked, leaning towards her but instead of responding, she wound the window up and then fell back on her seat.

After what seemed like forever, she surged forward and then climbed out of the car. She was already shutting the door when she remembered her purse.

“You can do this.” She said aloud and with confident steps, made her way towards the building.

On getting to the counter, she reclined against the partition, her hand under her jaw as she gazed at the guard who was staring back at her.

“What do you want?” He asked when she didn't say anything.

“Prisoner 2453, I came to bail him.” She said and immediately the guard reached out for the keyboard and

after pressing some keys, snapped his head upwards.

“Logan…”

“Yes.” She interrupted, drumming her fingers against the table. “Is he getting out?” She asked.

“He is eligible for bail but for that to happen, you have to pay a hefty sum.” He said casually, combing through his hair.

“How much is it?” She asked, swiping out her credit card.

“As stated here, he would be granted bail if you offer $5,000.” He said and she replied with a roll of eyes.

“Do you have the money to pay?” He asked.

“Are you looking down on me?” She snapped, glaring angrily at him.

“Of course not. It's just a question…”

“That's my credit card. Be snappy and hand it over.” She scoffed.

“I didn't mean…”

“Are you done?” She interrupted, only then did the guard go ahead to start processing the payment. When he was done, he pushed the keyboard towards her, “Please fill the form.” He said.

At the end of everything, the guard picked up the telephone lying lazily on his desk and after a swift conversation with the receiver, he said to her, “He will be out soon.”

About five minutes or so, Logan walked through the door and began to look around. Immediately his eyes fell on Joanne who was staring back at him, he looked away.

Sucking his teeth, he brushed past her as he stormed towards the exit with her trialing directly behind him. Before he could start pulling the door handle, she opened the door and he got in.

“Today is going to be a long one.” She muttered biting her bottom lips before joining him in the car.

“Please strap your seatbelt.” She said when she discovered he hadn't done that yet but he ignored her completely. She repeated her words several times before she finally decided to do it herself.

“Get your hands off me.” Logan said, stopping her mid air.

“Please strap your seatbelt.” She repeated, still yet, he didn't make any move. Seeing no matter what she did, he wouldn't budge, she turned the ignition and the car came into life.

All through the homeward journey, Logan was seething with anger. Occasionally, he would ball his palm into a fist and then let it go after a while.

This continued for a pretty long time before he finally reclined on the seat and with his head against the headrest, he shut his eyes. The fact that Joanne left him behind bars for two days was the source of his anger.

When they got home, she pulled up in the garage but before she could inform him of their arrival, he pushed the door open and then stepped out.

“What would you like to eat?” She asked when she joined him in the living room. Logan who was lying on a couch immediately rose and then turned his back on her.

“I asked a question. Just tell me and I in turn will speak to the maid…”

“Save yourself the stress.” He interrupted, slipping his hands into his pockets.

“Aren't you hungry? I bet you were starving in there.” She said and immediately, he snapped his head in her direction.

“Don't bother me.” He said and then stormed off to his room.

Turning to the guards that were loitering about, she said, “Keep your eyes on him.” She said before flopping on the couch he was occupying moments ago. With her legs crossed, she placed her hands across her chest and then began to stare straight ahead.

“He should even be grateful I decided to come for him.” She scoffed only to pull herself up and then stormed to the kitchen.

Still seething, she grabbed an apple and then began chewing on it angrily as she tried to forget about his attitude.

Meanwhile, Logan was in his room creating a mess. Anything he laid his hands on, he threw aside and after each throw, he accompanied it with a huff.

“Can't believe she left me there for two days.” He muttered, grabbing the vanity table. He was about to toss it aside when his phone which he had left untouched for two days began to buzz on his bed.

Walking briskly to his bed, he reached out for it but didn't receive the call immediately since it was an unknown number.

He was still staring at the screen when the call disconnected and only for his phone to start buzzing in his hand moments later.

“Who's this?” He asked when he finally received the call.

“I will text you an address and you have just half an hour to show up.” the person replied.

“Who's speaking?”

“You have just half an hour.” The response came and the lines disconnected. It wasn't up to half a minute that his phone buzzed — the caller had texted him the address.

Curious to find out who the person is, he changed his clothes and with his gun strapped to his holster, he stormed out of the room, banging the door shut.

“Sir, you aren't permitted to leave.” A guard accosted him immediately he got to the living room.

“Get out.” He snapped and with heavy footsteps, he continued his movement. Before the guard could alert his colleagues, Logan had left the premises on a bike.
