Chapter 233
A world completely different from the warm, inviting one outside.
In the study, nearly ten electronic screens displayed surveillance footage of the William family's surroundings, including the village entrance, covering almost the entire village with a 360-degree view.
Amelia realized that her recent actions, like knocking on the door and quietly entering, were all captured on these screens, and even the expressions on her face were clearly visible.
Just thinking about these things made her feel uneasy, her scalp tingling for the first time, and goosebumps rising on her arms.
"People who know me might think I'm afraid of being found out that my leg isn't injured, while those who don't might think I'm a murderer planning a crime."
Amelia muttered softly, scanning the study but finding nothing of particular interest, and she left.
She then opened another room.
It was decorated like a princess's room, with pink bedding and a delicate vanity table covered with makeup products. The room was dust-covered, indicating it hadn't been used in a long time.
If Amelia guessed correctly, this was probably William's mother's room before she got married.
She thought for a moment and decided not to enter, closing the door and sealing the room.
"Hey, wanna play some games with me?"
William, having finished washing the dishes, found an old gaming console from somewhere, and the two of them started playing.
At this moment, Wesley looked up with a hint of surprise, "Jonah and the others are driving around Maple Town, Amelia isn't with them, nor is she at home. I don't know where she is, so can I go back to the hospital to rest?"
He had lost a lot of blood yesterday and passed out. During his unconsciousness, Nox had forced another cut on him, trying to make their wounds identical. He felt so weak that he might collapse the moment he got out of the car.
Nox, lounging comfortably on the sofa, refused him, "No. Since we're here, we should make the most of today. Mr. Brown is back, right? He's been staying at his grandfather's house for his birthday without anyone seeing him leave. If I remember correctly, his grandfather's house is next to Amelia's, right? So let's visit William and his grandfather today to celebrate his birthday."
"Do you know Mr. Brown's grandfather? From what I know, Robert has a bit of a temper. Even Victor didn't get a warm welcome, let alone us. We might be kicked out as soon as we step in."
Nox corrected him, "No, it's you, not me. You're going to convince Robert. He seems to be important to William."
"Why me?" Wesley grumbled, clearly annoyed. "Why don't you go yourself? Why do you always make me do this? I don't want to suffer."
Nox didn't waste a second. He grabbed Wesley by the neck and pressed a small knife against his throat, his eyes cold and menacing. "Don't want to go? Too bad. Since you don't want to go, I won't force you. But your parents are using the family's name to scam people? That's nuts. Mistakes deserve punishment, so don't worry, I'll make sure Blair marries into the Brown family."
This threat always worked.
Wesley curled up into a ball, not daring to say another word.
As soon as they entered the village, someone informed William, "Mr. Brown, people from the Ember family in Silverlight City are here. They drove in with a red car, but we don't know their destination yet."
Amelia, who was leisurely playing games, heard this, and her good mood vanished.
She followed William into the study to check the surveillance. The car had stopped at Robert's house, not Amelia's, but her neighbor's.
A masked man stepped out of the car and knocked on the door, but the two in the study ignored him, and Robert wasn't home.
Amelia suddenly remembered that Robert hadn't been home since she arrived today.
"He went out early," William checked his watch. "Based on the time, he should be back soon."
Amelia covered her face in frustration.
As William predicted, Robert returned the next second, carrying a basket and holding a key. He looked at the masked man with curiosity, "Hello? Who are you?"
"Hello, I'm Wesley from the Ember family. I don't know if you've heard of me. Recently, we've been working on several projects with the Brown family, and we have a good relationship. Mr. Brown asked me to visit you while I'm in Maple Town..."
Upon hearing the names Brown and Mr. Brown, Robert's face darkened, and he didn't want to say another word.
He waved his hand dismissively and said, "I don't need a visit. Go back and tell the Browns to stay away from me."
It seemed the rumors were true; Robert and the Browns had a terrible relationship.
"I'm not just here to see you. I need to discuss some work matters with William. Can you let me in?"
"What work matters could involve William?"
A female voice rang out, and the gate opened. Amelia stepped out, "If I remember correctly, William stopped participating in any Brown family affairs long ago. Couldn't you come up with a better excuse?"
