Chapter 234
"Amelia! What are you doing here?"
Wesley's eyes widened in disbelief. No one had expected Amelia, who had been missing, to show up here.
"What? Amelia's here? She's with William? How close have they gotten? Damn it."
Nox, on the other end of the Bluetooth headset, heard the news, and his expression changed. He threw what he was holding and became visibly agitated.
Wesley, still standing in front of Amelia, couldn't respond to Nox. His eyes remained fixed on Amelia. Truth be told, seeing her made him feel a twinge of fear. She had a knack for making his life miserable—pushing him into pools or giving him a good scare.
"Yeah, I used that as an excuse. But I really do need to see William. Mr. Brown asked me to pass on a message, and I've been too busy until now. I finally had some free time today, so I came over immediately."
Amelia looked at him quietly, then suddenly extended her hand towards him.
Wesley, confused, instinctively reached out with his uninjured hand to shake hers. But Amelia quickly pulled away. "The other hand."
She wanted the injured one.
There was a long black line on the palm of that hand, with no bandages covering it.
Wesley had no idea what she intended to do, but he hesitated, feeling a strong reluctance. After a moment, he nervously extended his injured hand to her.
This time, Amelia didn't pull away. Instead, she pressed her nails into the uninjured part of his hand, causing him immense pain. It felt like his whole hand was being crushed.
After that, Amelia didn't let go. She held his hand firmly, pressing a finger on the black line with a malicious look on her face. "Does it hurt?"
"Yeah," Wesley said, his face contorted in pain.
"But I think the wound has gotten bigger. I know how hard I hit you, and it shouldn't be this big after stitching."
Wesley, already in pain, was completely thrown off. He didn't even hear Nox's instructions through the Bluetooth headset. His mind went blank, and he began to sweat. "Really? Maybe it's because I fell again. The wound wasn't this big initially."
Amelia pressed harder on the black line, her eyes boring into his. "Is that so?"
"Of course."
"But I was just lying. You immediately covered your hand, so how could I know the size of your wound? So, it really did get bigger."
Amelia snorted coldly and leaned closer to Wesley's face, causing him to instinctively step back. She retreated to a safe distance. "Why so nervous? I'm not going to take off your mask again."
"I don't care if you're Wesley or someone else. It doesn't matter to me. Your faces are etched in my mind as criminals. Just thinking about you makes me sick."
Amelia's voice was icy. "Either you keep wearing that mask and let me mess with you, or you show up in front of me, and I'll kill you myself."
Wesley feigned confusion. "What are you talking about? There's no one else here. Are you joking?"
Despite everything, he stuck to his story and showed no sign of changing his stance.
"Whether you get it or not, it doesn't matter. As long as the other person understands."
With that, Amelia walked into the courtyard with Robert, leaving Wesley at the door.
Robert, not used to interacting with young girls, struggled to find common ground. After some small talk, they fell into an awkward silence. Desperate to keep the conversation going, he offered snacks and other treats, insisting Amelia try them.
Normally, Amelia thrived in awkward situations, but this time, she felt genuinely uncomfortable. Eventually, she began chatting with Robert about William's past, which lightened the mood. She even heard some funny childhood stories about William, which made her laugh.
"These are all stories from when William was five. He was just a little kid back then, clueless about everything. As he grew up, he became more restrained and gentlemanly. He took good care of himself, and I never saw him lose his temper or argue with anyone."
Amelia listened, picturing a cute little boy falling and crying for his mom, which made her laugh even more.
Throughout the conversation, William remained silent, busy with his phone. Even though he didn't say anything, Amelia could guess what he was thinking.
Meanwhile, at the hospital, Wesley was admitted again due to an infection in his wound. The injury had worsened and needed to be stitched up again. He was in a coma, and the doctors said his condition was more severe than the day before.
"Mr. Ember, maybe we should go back to Silverlight City. Wesley's in bad shape, and the medical facilities there are better. He'll recover faster and won't be in so much pain."
Nox raised an eyebrow. "If you want to go back, go ahead. I'm not going anywhere."
"What's the difference where he recovers? He'll end up here anyway. It's better to stay put. I need to adjust my plans and figure out my next move."
With that, Nox left, leaving the driver to care for Blair.
The driver, torn about whether to inform Nox's mother, finally vowed to himself, "Sorry, Wesley. It's tough being with Nox, but I'll take good care of you until you recover."
