Chapter 65

“Wow! Thank goodness! Where did you find her?” He asked as he turned towards them.

“She was hiding in one of the empty rooms, sir. She didn't know we were going to come into that particular room and so we found her there.” One of the two men replied.

“That's great news. Welldone to both of you.” He commended them. “Where is she now?” He asked.

“She's at the security quarters, sir.” The first young man answered.

“Alright then.” He said calmly.

“We just came to inform you and ask if she is going to be handed over to the police.” The second young man replied.

“Oh no, not yet. We need to ask her a few questions first. Her responses will determine if she will be handed over to the police or not.” He said immediately.

“Although, we've asked her a few questions, sir.

“Oh! That's good. Were you able to get any relevant piece of information from her?”

“Yes sir. She explained amidst sobs that she had to resort to stealing the drugs because of her ailing mother.”

“She said her mother had been sick for a while now and she had spent every single penny she had left for her treatment but now, there was no money for her drugs anymore, which was why she had to do what she did.” He explained.

John sighed before speaking,

“Her situation is pitiful but at the same time, no matter the circumstance, what she did was totally wrong. However, I still need to ask her some questions. We can't just hand her over to the police like that, the case might be blown out of proportion.”

“Yes sir, that's true.” The first young man said.

“You both can go ahead, I'll join you soon. I need to take care of something first.” He said and watched as they both walked briskly away from him.

He then turned around slowly to look at Sonia as he said, “I'm so sorry for keeping you waiting, it was something very important that I needed to attend—” He immediately stopped talking as he realized that Sonia was nowhere in sight.

He looked both left and right but still didn't find her.

Unknown to him, immediately he got distracted by the news of the missing lady, Sonia had left the scene swiftly, making no noise as she exited and in no time, she was out of the hospital.

Outside the hospital, she heaved a sigh of relief.

“Whew! That was close.” She said out loud, to herself. “I just hope Rose is not found out soon.”

She immediately hailed a taxi and off she went.

   At Sorin's Mansion

"What do you mean it's not going to work? You need to help a brother here, at this point." Sorin said, frustrated.

"Oh! Really?" Kelvin said with a bit of mockery in his voice. "So, "a brother" didn't know that what he said earlier was going to backfire on him or he didn't think before talking?" Kelvin said, gesturing with his fingers to buttress the word "a brother".

"Come on, man. Are you going to help me or not?" Sorin asked.

"Well, I'll have to think very well about it first." Kelvin responded.

"Really? Why are you acting this way, Kelvin?" A frustrated Sorin said.

"In what way? Shouldn't I think well before accepting to help you? What if it backfires at me too?" Kelvin said, shrugging.

"It can't, I am sure of that." Sorin assured.

"How can you be so sure?" Kelvin asked.

"I don't know, I just know it won't." Sorin replied. "So? Are you in or not?"

"Fine! I'm in. I'll help you speak to her but if she doesn't answer, know that it's not my fault and I won't help you with it anymore." Kelvin said on a final note.

"Fine." Sorin hesitantly murmured. "Are you going now?" He asked Kelvin who had just stood up from his chair.

"Calm down, will you?" Kelvin responded, rolling his eyes.

"Anyway, I'll be on my way now. Wish me luck." Kelvin chuckled.

"Alright, Good luck." Sorin said as he stood up too and began to pace around in the study as soon as Kelvin walked out.

Different thoughts soon began to flood his heart as he paced in the room.

"What if she doesn't answer Kelvin?"

"What if she doesn't come out?"

"What if she refuses to go with me tomorrow?"

"What if this G.P is disappointed in me?"

"Oh my God! What if she is unconscious in there already?"

The number of "what ifs" that were going through Sorin's mind at that moment was enough to give anyone a heart attack. He just kept pacing with uncertainty in his heart.

"Hey babe." I heard Sorin call out to me as I was tidying up in the Kitchen.

"Yes babe." I responded, smiling.

"Are you not done yet?" He asked me.

"I'm almost done, babe, I just need to tidy up real quick." I replied, and soon, I felt his warm hands slowly wrapping round my waist and his lips pressed against my neck as he planted a warm kiss on it.

"Why don't you let the maids do it? Or of what use are the numerous maids in this house?" He said to me and I turned to look at him, still in his embrace.

"You know I like to do my things myself. Plus, the fact that we have numerous maids in this house doesn't mean I should not be able to lift a finger to do anything in the house, you know." I told him as I wrapped my hands around his neck and placed a kiss on his lips in return.

Beaming with smiles, he said, "You know that's one of the many reasons why I love you so much. I don't know what I'll do without you. You're just the perfect one for me and I couldn't have asked for anyone better. You know why?"

"Hmmmmmm..." I sighed, squinting my eyes. "Why?"

"Because there is no one better than you are, my love." He said as he planted a kiss on my forehead and I closed my eyes with joy.

"How did I get so lucky with you?" He said again and I began to blush.

"Well, I guess you wished and prayed so hard." I said and we both burst into laughter.

Suddenly, there was a loud knock on the door.

"Who could that be?" We both said in unison.

"Are you expecting anyone?" He asked me.

"Nope." I shrugged. "Are you?" I asked.

"I don't think so. Why would the guards let anyone in without notifying us first though?" He said.

"Maybe it's someone we know." I said and he shrugged too.

While we were still speaking, the knock on the door came again but this time, it was louder and harder than before and I immediately almost jumped out of my skin.

"Who is there?"
