"When am I going to see my great-grandchild?" the old woman asked as she sipped on her tea.

The man in front of her heaved a sigh. This isn't the first time his Lola asked for a grandchild as if it's easy to make one. He's so sick of that child and marrying thing. He doesn't see himself getting married and being committed to anyone or anything except for his job.

Being married is just a waste of time. It keeps you away from reaching high, higher, and highest. It keeps you distracted and obligated to make time for your wife and kids, and he doesn't like that.

"La, I don't even have a girlfriend." He adjusted his glasses and continued reading the newspaper.

Minsan na nga lang bumisita sa bahay ng lolo't lola niya, ganito pa ang bubungad sa kaniya.

"Then find yourself one!" Having a superstitious and very traditional Lola is not easy. She keeps on telling him to find himself a wife and build a family of his own. A decade have passed since she started to remind him to have a family, but he remained single until now. "Who wouldn't want to date someone like you? You're handsome, thanks to my genes, and rich. But not young, for Pete's sake you're already 30!" she's exaggerating, that's what he thought. "Napapag-iwanan ka na ng kalendaryo, jusmiyo! Ang iba mong kaibigan ay may mga pamilya na, ikaw heto't binata pa rin!"

"It's a choice, La. And besides I love to be, and to stay single." Archer Thiago Valle definitely has the looks and money to attract women, but the problem is that he is not interested in anyone.

He tried to flirt and date to make his Lola happy, but he just couldn't feel that 'butterfly in my stomach'. Instead, he felt cringe.

"Sa ngayon ay nasasabi mo pa 'yan. But as you get older, you'll realize that it's better to have someone you'll grow old with."

"Well, I'm not that old to feel that yet, so I'll just enjoy being a bachelor."

"At kailan ka pa maghahanap ng mapapangasawa, aber? Kapag ugod-ugod ka na? Kapag MMMM ka na? Kapag ang mga babaeng lalapit sa'yo ay siguradong pera lang ang habol? And if ever na magka-anak man kayo, nagfly-fly na kami ng Lolo mo sa heaven no'n." He doesn't like his Lola's chosen words. Archer knows that his grandparents will eventually leave this world, but he doesn't like the thought of it, much more hearing it from his Lola.

Binaba ni Archer ang dyaryong hawak at tiningnan ang kaniyang lola'ng umiinom ng tsaa na para bang hindi ito nagsalita tungkol sa kamatayan nito. "La, you'll live longer. Don't you want to break the Guinness World Record as the oldest person who lived?"

Kunot noong tiningnan si Archer ng Lola niya. "And what? Live in this stressful, polluted and over populated world? No way!" Pumorma ng malaking ekis si Lola Cecilia gamit ang dalawang braso niya.

"La–"

"Apo," pigil ni Lola Cecilia. "Ang sinasabi ko lang naman ay sana makita ko pa ang mga apo ko sa'yo bago pa kami lumisan sa mundong ibabaw. Hindi ko man sila makitang lumaki, at least man lang makita ko silang isilang. At sana makita man lang kitang nakatayo sa altar habang hinihintay ang babaeng gusto mong makasama habang buhay." Gone is his Lola's funny tone. Archer knew that he's Lola's serious, but he really doesn't want a family, except for his grandparents of course.

Archer nodded and didn't want to prolong the conversation. He wanted to tell his Lola that he couldn't see himself as a father and a husband but didn't want to hurt his Lola's feelings that's why he kept his mouth shut. Maybe one day his Lola will understand.
