Chapter 99
Brenda.
"I can't believe Hunter is trying to protect that girl. He should have already sent her home by now since her father already requested for her but instead of doing that, he's busy stalling and protecting her and when I confront him about his relationship with her, he keeps getting defensive and denying the obvious," I complained to Keisha, who has unfortunately become my only means of venting out my anger.
I already received word from Helene's father that he has sent somebody to inform Hunter that Helene was his daughter and that he wanted her back home but instead of Hunter immediately doing the needful, he's busy keeping her around even though he knows that this could create even more problems for the pack.
"I don't think you should bother yourself about this, Brenda. You already said that your confidence that her father can get her back so why not just wait for things to play out? She can't possibly keep her from her father ever so we can only watch how he will eventually have no other choice but to send her home," Keisha replied, attempting to reassure me but at this point, nothing anyone says can reassure me.
I was ready at the point where the only thing that I had to do now was to make sure that girl was sent back home so that I could find a way to fix my relationship with Hunter and make sure things went back to the way they used to be before she showed up.
"I am at a point of desperation, Keisha. I've been hearing rumors about my relationship with Hunter and I don't like the fact that people are already starting to think that she's going to take my place. You know that nobody here really likes me and wants me in that position so definitely, they're all celebrating the fact that she could take my place and I need to kick her out so that I can remind them that the position belongs to me and no one else," I told her and she rolled her eyes at me.
"Sorry to say, sweetie but, why in the world are you concerned about what they have to say? I don't think this is the time for you to worry about what those people want. Your concern should only be about how things are going to turn out. I'm trying to stay as positive as I can right now but we both know that the situation is quite complicated and like I've said a thousand times, you need to make sure you have a plan b and a plan c," she said and I can't disagree with that.
"I already tried reaching my mum to confirm things from her but she's not even picking up my calls and I just feel like something is going on with her that she's not telling me," I said.
Keisha frowned. "Don't tell me you used to think that your mother tells you everything? I mean, I have a normal mom and even she doesn't tell me everything, so why would you expect yours to do that?" she retorted and something about her comment didn't sit well with me.
"Are you trying to say my mom isn't a normal mom?" I questioned.
"Do you think she is?" she responded with a question.
"Of course, what's the difference between your mom and mine?" I asked.
"Well, not trying to insult your mom or anything but, my mother would certainly never try to get me married to someone just purely for her good. I can understand why your mother wants to do that but it's still not a very normal thing and I can't exactly say she is a normal parent since the things that she says and does are quite extreme sometimes," Keisha responded and nothing about explanation made any sense to me.
I can agree with the fact that my mother wasn't exactly typical but saying that she wasn't like any other normal parent was just not it. I'm pretty sure the reason why she wants me to marry Hunter so desperately is because she misses her home and she also wants to come back so that we wouldn't have to be apart from each other.
I can't imagine how tough it must have been for her to survive all by herself after dad died and I can't imagine how sad she must have been because she could not live with me and raise me like any other mother would have.
"I understand that you and I are best friends so I tell you everything and you know everything about my mother and me but you have no right to mention that my mother isn't a normal parent because you have no clue how difficult has been for her to survive on her own out there and the only reason she wants me in this position is that it's the only way for us to get our reputation back and it's the only way I can bring her back home," I replied, trying not to sound too upset.
The main reason I was so determined to get to the position of Luna wasn't just for myself, it was mostly for my mother because I want everybody that has ever slandered her to choke on their own words when she finally comes back and it's better than ever.
"Well, I'm sorry for what I said and let me apologize again for the question that I'm about to ask. You keep saying that your mother was sent away from home but have you forgotten that the mother isn't originally from this pack? The only reason she was staying here was mostly because of your dad who was her mate but you and I this pack isn't where she was born," Keisha mentioned and I was starting to wonder why this was even a topic of conversation.
"Why are we even having this conversation? Just because she wasn't born here originally, doesn't mean it's not her home. She met her dad when she was a teenager and she has been here ever since. Her parents and her people have most probably forgotten her existence, so this place is her home no matter what," I responded defensively, hoping Keisha didn't say anything that'd get me furious.
"I'll shut up now," she muttered innocently and I scoffed.
"You had better shut up 'cause I don't understand why you're always bringing up shit. You're starting to seem fishy to me, Keisha," I pointed out.
She rolled her eyes.
"I'm only asking…," she was about to answer but she suddenly paused for a few seconds, and judging by the color of her eyes, I figured that she had received a message via mind link.
"Who was it?" I asked, as soon as she was back to normal.
"I have to leave now, sweetie. The Beta has called for me," she answered and I frowned in disgust.
"What does that idiot want?" I asked.
"No idea but I need to hurry because according to the message, it's an emergency. See you later," she replied hurriedly before picking up her jacket and running out of the room, and for some reason, I didn't have a good feeling about this sudden meeting.
