Chapter 257
Martin said, "Arthur, I assume you've heard about Leon injuring your men?"
Arthur replied, "Yeah, I heard. So, what's the Mitchell family got to say about it?"
Martin paused for a moment, then said slowly, "I called to talk this over with you. Victoria's made her position clear: as long as you don't go after Leon, she's willing to marry you."
Arthur was taken aback; he hadn't seen this coming.
But then he realized something and frowned. "Is she doing this for Leon?"
"Yeah."
"Fine, I can live with that," Arthur said coldly. "But I have one condition. We need to announce our engagement in a formal setting, so everyone knows, and she can't back out."
Martin asked, "How do you plan to do that?"
"Isn't there a military transfer ceremony coming up? Everyone will be there. I want the Rock State commander and the Marine Corps instructor to witness it. That way, Victoria can't back out."
After saying this, Arthur hung up the phone.
Martin looked at Victoria, who seemed very sad. His feelings were complicated.
Victoria asked, "Martin, did he agree?"
Martin nodded and said, "Arthur agreed, but he has a condition. The announcement must be made at the Rock State military transfer ceremony, with the commander and the Marine Corps instructor as witnesses."
Victoria was shocked.
The other members of the Mitchell family, unaware of Leon's true identity, thought this was a good move.
"Arthur is very thorough. Announcing it in such a formal setting is like telling everyone that the Mitchell family and the Brown family are now allies."
"And with the Marine Corps instructor, the commander, and Landon as witnesses, this news will definitely make waves across the country."
"Once this news spreads, the Mitchell family's status will surely rise."
At this moment, no one paid attention to Victoria's feelings; they only cared about the family's interests.
Meanwhile, in a mansion, Arthur was meeting a guest.
The guest was a relative of the Brown family named Marcus, an officer in the Tempest City military with some influence.
His unit, the Viper Unit, was as renowned as the Marine Corps.
After arriving in Angel City, Arthur had managed to contact Marcus, and today they finally met.
Arthur said, "Marcus, since we're family, I have a bit of trouble and need your help."
He then had his men bring in several boxes, which, when opened, revealed gold bars.
Marcus frowned and said, "Arthur, I'm a soldier, not someone who can be bought. Put the gold away. If I can help you, I will."
Arthur smiled and said, "No wonder everyone praises you. You're not only capable but also honest and upright. I truly admire you."
"Alright, I'll get to the point. The Brown family is planning to marry into the Mitchell family, and I'm to marry Victoria."
"But I'm worried someone might try to mess things up, so I want to announce it at the military transfer ceremony. That way, no one can back out."
Marcus frowned. "I'm here in Angel City representing the Tempest City military for the ceremony, and I'm also a comrade of Sebastian."
"Really? That's great," Arthur said, smiling. "That means we can control the whole event."
Marcus shook his head. "If it were just Sebastian, he wouldn't refuse us. But the Marine Corps instructor will also be there, so we need his approval."
Arthur asked, "As far as I know, that instructor left the Marine Corps a long time ago. Why does he still hold such high status?"
Marcus replied, "Arthur, because you're not a soldier, you can't understand our respect for that instructor. Sebastian became a commander thanks to his recommendation. Even though he's no longer in the military, he still has significant influence."
"I've even heard that the commander-in-chief has invited him back many times to serve as chief of staff."
Arthur was shocked. "That instructor might become chief of staff? Is that true?"
Marcus nodded. "Absolutely. No one else is qualified."
Arthur said, "If that's the case, we definitely need his approval. This isn't just about my marriage; we also need to build a good relationship with him. This could help the Brown family become one of the top ten families."
Arthur had another thought he didn't voice: if he got on good terms with the instructor, he wouldn't face any threats within the Brown family.
Marcus nodded. "Alright, I'll see what I can do. Your request is a small matter; I think the instructor will be happy to help."
Arthur smiled. "That would be wonderful!"
Meanwhile, Leon was at home, having just hung up a call from Raymond.
Raymond said a friend of Marcus wanted Leon to be a witness at the military transfer ceremony.
Leon had a vague memory of Marcus, who had trained with the Marine Corps before moving to the Viper Unit.
Leon admired Marcus's abilities, so he agreed without asking too many questions.
Caitlin asked, "Leon, who called? What's going on?"
Leon replied, "In a couple of days, I need to be a witness at a friend's wedding."
"Someone's getting married? Do I know them?" Caitlin asked, puzzled.
Being a witness usually meant the person was quite important, and she didn't understand why Leon was invited.
Leon smiled. "Sebastian's friend invited me. I forgot to tell you, Sebastian's position has changed, and he's now working in Angel City. I'll be a witness at his inauguration ceremony."
Caitlin was even more curious. "Sebastian is that impressive? They're holding an inauguration ceremony for him?"
Leon laughed, "He's quite impressive, but still not as much as me."
