Chapter 64: I Am Not Threatened!

Chapter 64: I Am Not Threatened!

Dominic Storm's POV:

We finally managed to reach our destination as the carriage finally came to a slow running pace before it stopped altogether. Beta Orion stood up and walked over to the door, opening it as he stepped out onto the ground. I stood up to my feet and placed my hands on either side of the door frame whenever I thought back to my mate sitting there at the table in the dining hall.

'Please enjoy yourself. I will be back as soon as I can.'

'All right,' I heard her timid voice say within her thoughts.

I knew it seemed like she had gone through some tremendous experience and didn't like speaking aloud to others. I would accept her however she came. She was made for me. She was my mate and didn't belong to anyone else. I had a variety of ways to communicate with her, and if it made her feel more comfortable to communicate via mind link, then that is how it should go. I just wanted her to be able to take care of herself while I was away, so I could tend to what I needed to here. The sooner I finish up here, the sooner I can get back to her.

When I exited the carriage, I could hear some bickering over in the distance on the backside of the trees as we neared the edge of the border to my kingdom. I remained silent as we walked, making our way through the shrubs and trees to reach the commotion.

"Silence, the Lycan King approaches," I heard one of the Warriors call out in a commanding tone.

However, as we reached a certain distance through the trees, we could see men fighting, being held down on their knees. They had no intention of going quiet upon the approaching presence of me. Given any other point in time, I would've loved to make a mockery of this group of rogues that thought they could invade my territory. It's just that I had my mate's life that could have possibly been hanging in the balance while I was here.

"Silence!" Beta Orion called out when we finally reached the area. "Did you not hear you were commanded to shut your yaps.

"Who are we to listen to you?" One individual in particular called out loudly, gaining silence from the rest of the group of rogues he had traveled here with, apparently. I stood there as I watched, seeing what he was going to say next. "You are not our commander and ruler. We should not have to listen to the likes of you?"

"Oh?" Beta Orion called out to him as he turned to walk towards him, speaking loud enough, making sure everyone else in this rogue party could hear his words. "And whose land is it you tried to invade? You know the consequences of invading our territory. You chose the action. You do not get to choose the consequence thereof!"

I could feel my wolf starting to get angry at the insolence of this one rogue in particular. It didn't take much to set my wolf off. It had been less than a day since Drake had severed someone's head from their lifeless body. He was willing to do it again if it meant setting an example for the rest of the rogue party.

"You will shut your mouth if you know what's good for you," Beta Orion said whenever he turned around to face the rest of the group before turning around to look at this one individual in particular. "The Lycan King's wolf doesn't have as much patience as I do."

"Then let him show himself and prove his point," the man continued to scoff his mockery as he turned to face me. That was the first time that he had laid his eyes on me. This entire time, he was looking at Beta Orion. "Oh look," he chanted in a mocking, sarcastic tone. "Look what we have here? It's none other than the Lycan King himself. Come, Oh Kingly one. Come, show us the true might of your power. The sheer might of your ever pressing rage. Show us your true character."

I had previously been leaning against the bark of a tree, waiting for the right moment to speak up. However, when it was time for me to speak, the last thing I was going to have was some random rogue, insolent individual interrupt me when I chose to do so. In that precise moment, I could feel the vibration from the depth of my throat as Drake started to growl, as he wasn't going to take much more of this nonsense.

"Who are you to challenge the likes of me?" I asked, my tone deep, my commanding presence evident as I waited for him to speak.

"I am considered a nobody, Lycan King," he continued to scoff at me as he spoke. "Who are you to address someone as lowly as me?"

I had noticed he didn't say My King. In fact, he called me Lycan King. That would usually insinuate that he didn't classify me as his one true King. It made me wonder if there was someone else he would show a certain respect to. I took a step closer to him, wondering if that would make him change his demeanor. However, with each slow step I took, all he did was try to rise up, making himself a bit taller as he was still held down in a position, hovering on his knees.

"I am not afraid of the mere likes of you," he spouted off this time. "I am not going to flinch to some random Lycan King who thinks he has the power over me."

I stopped as I cut my eyes over at Beta Orion. Beta Orion couldn't hold his composure anymore whenever he burst out laughing. Even some of the Warriors standing around the area started laughing as well at the foolish ideals of this one particular rogue.

I then turned my attention towards Beta Orion when I said, my voice loud and commanding, "It goes to show you what the riffraff is thinking these days."

"That is truly so, My King," Beta Orion says as he walks over to stand in his rightful place on my right side. "However, as foolish as you may be, your words mean nothing. You and your group have invaded our territory. You are the one who speaks out of turn."

"I am not threatened by your idle attempts," the rogue continued to rant.

By this point, Drake had had enough as he wasn't going to put up with any more. This would be the first full day of us having our mate, and he wasn't going to spend it here with the likes of this fool. In one quick flash, Drake shifted, showing his presence in full glory. He was a solid black wolf with golden-colored eyes. When he shifted, even this pathetic excuse of a rogue cowered back at the presence of the Lycan King's wolf.

Drake made short work of this. He closed the distance between him and this rogue.
