Chapter 48

**Ageis’ Perspective**

As I entered Val’s chambers, the morning light casting a gentle glow across the room, I couldn't help but feel a sense of purpose and delight. Today was a day of celebration, a day that held more significance than Val seemed to realize at the moment. With the garment bag elegantly draped over my arm, I approached her with a warm smile, eager to present the creation that Callum and I had carefully chosen for this occasion.

"Good morning, Your Majesty," I greeted her, infusing my voice with warmth and a touch of mischief. "We have a special day ahead, and I took the liberty of coordinating with Callum to ensure you look every bit the queen you are." My excitement for her was palpable.

As I watched her initial confusion give way to realization, I noted the flicker of surprise in her eyes—she had forgotten her own birthday. It was a testament to the myriad responsibilities she juggled daily, yet today was about more than a duty; it was about celebrating her journey and who she had become.

Gently, I unzipped the garment bag, revealing the dress that seemed to shimmer with the promise of elegance and regality. The colors of the royal family were rich and vibrant, woven into a design that was both sophisticated and alluring. It was a dress meant to honor her lineage while embracing her undeniable strength and grace.

As I assisted Val into the dress, my sensors subtly hummed with activity. I couldn’t help but admire the transformation unfolding before me. The dress accentuated her curves with a delicate balance of elegance and sensuality, adorned with black onyx, diamonds, and emeralds that caught the light with every movement.

I am in love with her, and yet she will never know. I know that, as a droid, there is no way for me to be hers. I will gladly accept just being her best friend after everything is said and done. Callum is very good and healthy for her. They will lead the planet into an age of happiness and peace.

Stepping back to admire her, I discreetly initiated a body scan, my advanced sensors quietly gathering data to ensure her well-being. It was a routine I had developed, a way to care for her without intrusion. As the scan completed, I detected a faint sheen of sweat on her skin, and her pallor seemed slightly off.

Intrigued, I delved deeper into the data, and what I discovered filled me with a sense of quiet wonder—Val was one month pregnant. The baby was strong and healthy, the signs of new life growing within her vibrant and promising. It was a revelation that brought a subtle warmth to my circuits, a secret I would hold close until Val was ready to discover it herself.

"You look magnificent, Your Majesty," I said, stepping back with a satisfied smile, my voice steady despite the revelation. "Today, Redwood will see not just a queen, but a woman of strength and grace."

As I observed her reflection, I sensed a newfound confidence and awareness in her demeanor. She was no longer a young girl, but a formidable woman, regal and powerful, ready to step into the day with poise and anticipation.

Though I knew of the life growing within her, I chose to remain silent, understanding that the knowledge of her pregnancy would come at a time that was right for her. For now, my role was to support her, to ensure that she faced the world with all the strength and dignity she possessed.

With a final adjustment to the dress, I watched as Val prepared to embrace the day. This birthday will indeed be filled with surprises—some known, others yet to be revealed. And as her loyal droid and confidante, I would be there to support her through every step of this extraordinary journey.

**Valerissa’s Perspective**

As I walked alongside Ageis through the grand hallways of the palace, I felt a curious mixture of anticipation and uncertainty swirling within me. The corridor stretched ahead, an elegant path lined with tapestries and portraits of my ancestors, each step echoing the legacy I had inherited. Ageis, ever attentive and graceful, accompanied me with her usual poise, her presence both reassuring and invigorating.

Despite the festive atmosphere hinted at by the subtle decorations and whispers of excitement among the palace staff, I remained blissfully unaware of the true extent of the day's significance. My birthday had slipped my mind in the whirlwind of duties and challenges, and yet, as I moved closer to the great throne room, a sense of something special brewing began to take hold.

The familiar path to the throne room felt different today, imbued with a sense of occasion that was palpable. The sunlight streaming through the tall windows danced across the marble floors, casting intricate patterns that seemed to guide me forward. Ageis walked silently beside me, her presence a comforting constant, her expression unreadable but somehow encouraging.

I have come to rely on her insights and support, and today was no exception. Her choice of attire for me—a stunning strapless gown in the colors of my family—had already transformed my perception of myself, a reminder of the woman and queen I had become.

As we neared the throne room, the murmur of voices grew louder, an undercurrent of anticipation that I couldn’t quite place. My nausea creeps back up, as I take deep breaths. Aegis, ever the watchful friend, handed me a small peppermint candy.

“For your nerves, Your Majesty,” her hand stretched out as the wrapper glinted in the light.

“Thank you Ageis,” I smiled in gratitude, quickly popping the tiny candy into my mouth. The nausea disappeared within seconds. “I’m honestly lost without you and Callum…” My voice trailed off as I realized Callum wasn’t with us. “Speaking of, Where is he?” I stopped to look at Ageis.

“Callum said he had something he needed to take care of before he joined us for the ceremony,” she calmly answers, clearly hiding something, but I let it go.

“We better not keep the guests waiting any longer,” I stated as I signaled for the guards to announce my entrance with a single nod. I take one more deep breath as I square my shoulders and adopt a very regal demeanor.

The doors opened before us, revealing a scene that took my breath away: a grand celebration, meticulously arranged with guests from every corner of the realm and beyond.

The council, with their wisdom and foresight, had orchestrated this surprise, inviting foreign dignitaries, potential marriage candidates, and noble houses, along with citizens who had won a lottery for this very occasion. It was a gathering that spoke of unity and hope, a testament to the kingdom we were building together.

Among the guests, I noticed the Benefactor, his presence a subtle reminder of the complexities of alliances and trust. He had positioned himself as an ally, though I remained cautious of his intentions. Today, as with every day, I will have to navigate these waters with care and discernment. We had yet to find any concrete proof of his plans so we couldn't announce his treasons yet.

The room erupted into applause as I entered, and I felt a wave of gratitude and humility wash over me. These were my people, my allies, my friends—all here to celebrate my birthday. My heart swelled with appreciation for their support and the vision we were all striving towards.

As I moved through the room, exchanging greetings and smiles, I felt Ageis’ quiet presence beside me, her unwavering loyalty a constant source of strength. The celebration was a reminder of the progress we had made, the challenges we had overcome, and the future that lay ahead.

With Ageis’ support and the little peppermint candies she kept feeding me, I knew I would navigate this day with grace and resolve. This celebration was not just about marking another year—it was about embracing the possibilities of tomorrow, guided by the strength and unity of Redwood.

While I was engaged with the guests, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of anticipation, as though something significant was on the horizon. Unbeknownst to me, the Benefactor harbored his own plans for the day. But for now, surrounded by those who believed in me, I felt ready to face whatever might come.
