Chapter 49: Forty Nine
Author's pov.
Back at the witch's coven, Nova and Agatha walked in, Agatha's face was etched with a smirk, exchanged understanding glances at Nova, she walked back to the center of the hall, and Nova walked back to her seat.
“Have you gone to think about more lies?” Athena scoffed.
“I wish I did, but I didn't think about anything, I got my story clear”. Agatha replied coldly.
Athena took in deep breaths. “Before you start, I want to first apologize for not telling the coven about your mother's death, I needed to the real situation surrounding your mother's death” she explained.
“You didn't look like you were getting to know the situation better when I met you in your office”. Agatha hissed.
“I was on your mother's case, I didn't know the group to blame or fight for her death, but I concluded that the rogue hunters did the most, they captured your mother and made her kill herself and the rogues didn't do anything about it, so they are not left out”.
“Dominic didn't do anything” Agatha defended glaring at her. “He didn't know my mother had been captured because she was in the mansion when they attacked, the plan wasn't for her to go on her own, the plan was that Dominic would turn my mother in but still try to save her, but my mother was summoned by someone and my mother had to leave the haven to that place” she barked, gasping for her, anger flooded her brain.
“Does that make sense to you?” Athena scoffed. “You said the rogue hunters attacked the mansion because s black witch led them to the mansion, yet your mother was with you during that attack and after the attack?”
“I don't know”. Agatha snapped.
“The rogue hunters are lying to you” one of the witches shouted.
“They might be, but I am not lying” Agatha eyed. “My mother was summoned right in front of me”.
“You said she didn't mention a name, but you blame Darla, care to explain that?” Athena asked.
“I lied” Agatha defended locking eyes with her. “I lied about my mother not mentioning a name, she did…” she paused as her eyes flickered to Darla. She was brimming with hostility.
“Then did she mention a name?” Athena shrugged.
“Darla, she mentioned Darla” Agatha revealed.
The hall filled with noise, as they whispered among themselves.
“I don't know what the truth is but I know that Darla has a part to the story, a clue to my mother's death” Agatha added, raising her voice.
“I do not have any proof to back up my allegations, but I beg the council to give me time to get that proof that Darla is somehow involved in the death of my mother” she shouted.
“We all felt the death of your mother, Trixie was a good woman and we can boldly say that we only got where we are today because of her and your grandmother” an old lady spoke up.
“Trixie was a good woman, to begin with, she never did anything to deserve that cruel death”. Another added.
“I can't believe you all” Darla jerked up from her seat. “She just accused me and you are all supporting her” she smoldered.
“We aren't taking sides… yet” another defended. “But what she said is true and besides Agatha has never met you before to hold deep grudges with you, that would make her blame you for helping mother's death”.
“Someone must have told her to say that” Darla defended as she looked at Agatha with a hostile glare. She must be jealous”. She scoffed.
“Jealous about who?” Agatha eyed. “You are the second strongest witch of this coven, should I remind you that I am the strongest witch in this coven”. She said. Her voice was laced with a tinge of pride.
“You only got that power because you killed many witches” she scoffed, nodding her head in disbelief.
“Both of you enough” Athena jerked up angrily. “This is a meeting not children's playing ground”.
“What exactly do you have for Agatha to be jealous?” Nova bolted out. “Get your act together girl”. She hissed.
“That is enough Nova” Athena warned, her voice laced with venom. She turns to Agatha. “If you can prove that Darla is …even the slightest chance involved in your mother's death, just inform me, I will give her the punishment age deserves, I know no matter what I do, it can't bring Trixie back but I would make sure the perpetrator pays for it” she reassured her.
“Darla is your daughter, how am I sure you would keep your word?” Agatha locked eyes with her.
“You are not sure but you just have to trust me”. Athena forced a smile.
“Look girl” a lady called, Agatha's eyes flickered in her direction. “What are you talking about? Athena is not a liar, whatever promise made in this place must be kept no matter what happens”. She explained.
“Now that we have concluded your section, Darla should come forward and tell us whether she wants to proceed in Agatha's investigation or she wants something of her own”. Athena called as she turned to Darla.
Darla quietly got up as she walked forward, standing side by side with Agatha. She shot her a hostile glare before turning to the audience.
“I am Darla, the one accused”. She introduced. “First I want to offer my condolences to Agatha…” she paused turning to her with a bow.
“Ugh” she scoffed, her face contorted with rage and disbelief. Darla was responsible for her mother's death and now here she was offering her condolence.
“Trixie was a good woman, she was like a mother to me, each time I argued with my mother, she was always there for me and somehow brought us back together” she explained, her eyes prickling with tears.
Agatha forced a smile as she suppressed her flaring anger. Her mind clouded with the thought of killing Darla.
“I want justice for Trixie too, so I agree to this” she revealed as she pulled Agatha into a hug. “I wasn't going to do much after you accused me, but now I want to watch how you would prove to them how I was responsible for your mother's death, even though I was you still can't find proof” she whispered.
Agatha leaned in to whisper back. “Watch me” she smiled.
“Power is the key, which is something you don't have” she scoffed as she released her from her embrace.
“Then it is sealed” a man shouted. “We would give Agatha a few weeks to come up with proof”.
Agatha nodded in agreement.
“Now, let's talk about Dominic and how would intend to control him, we have been underestimated for so long” Athena moved forward. “A plan that would shape Dominic for good”. She smirked.
