Chapter 48: Forty Eight
Kristen's pov.
I jerked up from my seat as I looked at the clock on the wall, it was a few minutes past midnight. Agatha had not yet returned, I had to convince her Gath that my pack had nothing to do with Agatha's mother's death.
I had to convince them that I cared and would like to support them in this hard time.
“Is there any problem?” Rose asked, her face etched with worries.
“No” I nodded my head. “I just have to meet the Alpha”. I revealed as I walked towards the door but halted immediately.
My mind drifted to Dominic's words that they would provide the black witch that was responsible for the death of the fifty rogue hunters.
“Was Trixie the black witch responsible?” My mouth fell open as I darted my eyes back to Rose.
“Rose…” I called but paused immediately, she wouldn't know so much about the black witch responsible.
“Yes, my lady” she answered as she walked towards me. “Is there anything I can help you to do?”
“You know what…” I forced a smile. “Don't worry about it”. I reassured her as I walked out.
I had to find out the truth, it was either something was off or Richard was right, they wouldn't bring out the witch responsible because they were working with the entire coven, they could have sacrificed someone in the coven but would Agatha let her mother be the scapegoat?
I hurriedly walked towards Dominic's office, people around me bowed their heads as I walked past them, but I paid no notice to them.
I got to Dominic's office, I glanced around making sure no one followed behind me, everyone that passed seemed to be going about their business.
I looked up at the door and saw the name boldly written at the top of the door.
“Alpha’s office” I muttered, immediately the door opened, revealing Gath.
“You” he called as his mouth fell open. “What are you doing here?” His brows furrowed in curiosity.
“Uhhh…” I stuttered.
“Kristen” Dominic called as he peeped behind Gath. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to talk to the Alpha”. I bolted out as my shoulder stiffened in boldness.
“You are here to talk to the Alpha?” Dominic said in disbelief as he exchanged glances with Gath.
“You don't need to see me, you can see Dominic about it, he will tell me what is going on”. Gath reassured me as he tried to walk past me but I stood in his front.
“I am tired of talking to your spokesman” I scoffed. “Are you scared of me or do you so much hate your position as the Alpha of the rogues that you can't face me”.
“I can assure you it is neither” he laughed. “I felt you might feel more comfortable with Dominic, that's why I suggested you talk to him” he explained.
“Why?” I frowned. “Do you think I'm scared of talking to you?”
“Kristen, I am being considerate” he snapped. “Do I need to remind you that it was just today that your pack and my pack are still in grief?” He hissed.
“It was yesterday, it is already another day” I corrected.
“What?” His mouth fell open in disbelief.
“That doesn't matter anyway, but that's why I am here to talk to you”. I revealed.
He scoffed as he slammed the door in my face. I staggered backward in shock.
“Uh,” I scoffed. “The guts” I hissed as I took in deep breaths. “Kristen you have a mission, don't let a fool spoil that” I calmed myself.
The door suddenly opened revealing Dominic.
“I am sorry about that' he apologized gesturing me inside.
I walked inside the office carefully, Gath sat across the room, his hands clutched on his chest.
“Be quick” he commanded.
I nodded quietly as she stood in front of him. My eyes darted to Jake as he sat far across the room, his eyes locked with mine, resentment evident in his eyes.
“You said you wanted to talk to me?” Gath broke my gaze.
“Yes,” I nodded in agreement. “But I might have forgotten to mention to you that it was private”.
“Private?” Dominic scoffed. “You got to be kidding me”.
“You said you wanted to talk to me, right?” He chuckled. “You can say whatever you want to say in front of them”.
I paused as my eyes flickered to Dominic, his brows furrowed in curiosity.
“I want to talk about my husband”. I bolted out. Dominic face fell.
Dominic exchanged glances with Jake, I could see the tinge of pain in his eyes. I had no other choice, now that I knew the Alpha of the pack or the one pretending to be the Alpha of the pack, I could now avoid the games of my heart, each time I saw him.
“Your husband?” Gath asked.
“Yes,” I nodded my head.
“If I am not mistaken you must be talking about Noah?”
“Yes,” I scoffed. “The one the black witch shut down”.
“If you are here to talk about the most hated rogue hunter in this territory, I suggest you talk to Dominic about it”. He insisted.
“Why do you have to bring Dominic to everything?” I snapped.
“You want to talk to someone about your husband, you can talk to them, don't tell me how to run my pack, or you sit quietly and watch whatever happens to your beloved husband” he warned, his voice laced with venom.
“No,” I thought as I threw my head away in disappointment. “What are you doing, Kristen?” I said to myself. “How can you create peace, if this is how you have started?”
“If you have nothing to say, I suggest you leave” he eyed.
“You are right,” I said reluctantly. “You are right, I can't tell you how to run your pack I think you are right, maybe I should talk to Dominic”. I suggested.
“Kristen” Dominic called as he walked forward. “He didn't mean all that” he apologized. “He has other important things to do”. He said turning to Jake.
Jake scoffed, nodding his head in disappointment. “Don't drag me into this nonsense” he hissed as he walked out.
“Jake is right” Gath added as he got up. “This is your problem, Dominic,” he said walking out.
I kept quiet as I watched Gath slam the door behind him, I quickly turned to Dominic.
“What was that about?” I scoffed.
“I am sorry for what he did” he apologized.
I paused as I looked keenly at him, this wasn't the Dominic I knew, Dominic was someone who would never apologize even when he was the one wrong, he always had unbeatable pride and arrogance, that he could make his victim, apologize to him.
“Are you okay?” I frowned.
He nodded quietly.
“You don't seem fine”. I nodded in disagreement.
“Please” he scoffed. “Don't act like you care” he hissed.
“Okay,” I frowned. “You have to stop blaming me for caring, at least my care was real, all the feelings I had were real” I revealed, my eyes glistening in tears, as I felt layers of unsettling emotions.
“Please don't start” he snapped. “Don't act like you care”.
“You broke up with me and now you are acting like it was I who broke your heart” I scoffed in disbelief.
“I didn't say anything” he defended. “I didn't blame you”.
“Oh stop it” I yelled as my tears flowed freely down my face. “I know you, Dominic, it has been four years now, but I still remember everything”.
“The truth was you never loved me” he shouted. “The moment I left you married your best friend”.
“I never loved you” I cried. “I brought a stranger to my pack, I defended him when my pack wanted to kill him, I even went far to lose my virginity to that man…” I paused as tears choked up my tears.
“Losing your virginity to that man doesn't matter, you had sex with someone you never loved”. He scoffed.
“What about you?” I nodded my head in disbelief. “Did you love me… did you feel the tiniest thing for me before you had sex with me?” I cried.
“I loved you, I always did and I would always will” he defended as tears rolled down his face.
“Then why did you leave?” I barked. “why did you leave even after I begged you?
Dominic flickered his eyes in another direction in shame.
“You claim you cared but you left me in bits” I scoffed. “I never regretted getting married to Noah, he treated me better than you ever did…” I paused as I took in a deep breath. “After you left me I realized what I was missing,u regret the day we met, I wished I didn't skip my training to hang out with friends, and I wish I never fell for you”
“Kristen…” he called softly as he tried holding my hands.
“Don't” I snapped as I shifted backwards. “It is already too late, it is too late to care, thanks for telling me how you felt, I always wondered why you left, but now I know…” I paused as I nodded my head in disbelief, my face contorted with a mixture of sadness and disappointment.
“I can't believe my heart was slowly yearning for your touch, but now you just pulled it back to reality, I belong to someone else, and you belong to someone else too, we both moved on and the only thing that brought us together was Noah, I hope he recovers soon enough so we can be on our way” I eyed before walking out.
My steps felt heavy with each step, a gloom overcame me as my tears pooled my eyes. A great pang gripped my heart, finally, I had to a stop to the torment of my heart, and I had a reason to move on.
I had only one mission now and that was to destroy this rogue pack and kill all the black witches. Nothing was holding me back, I was willing to do anything to end this pack, even though it meant killing Dominic with my bare hands
