Chapter 46: Her dying wish

A life full of choices thought to be hard but the hardest part of life was saying goodbye. It feels as if Brandon and I've just met and we're already going our separate ways. Life is great when you had a worry-free life until your future stared you right in the face.

Graduation was less than a month away and I was going to leave Brandon behind not knowing what the future holds for him and me but all I knew is that I didn't want to say goodbye to him. He has become my everything.

"I'm picking up all kinds of radio chatter from you but not one of them is quite positive." Brandon said from behind me as I was lying on my side with my back facing him. "Graduation is around the corner." I mumbled. "I know." He said scooting closer to until his naked body was pressed up against mine. He then rested his chin on my shoulder as he brushed his hand alongside my hip.

"I'm going to the University of L. A, as it has always been a dream of mine and they offered me a full scholarship." I informed him. "Why are you saying things that I already know?" He questioned jokingly. "Because it means that I'm leaving you behind after I've just found you." I told him.

I heard him sigh before he rolled me onto my back. "Not a chance, Adams. Just because we are going to be miles apart doesn't mean we have to break-up." I looked at him with a questioning look when he said break-up. "Break-up? We just made love a few moments ago and we didn't discuss any of the terms beforehand." I joked.

"You mean the world to me, Adams. With Clarissa, it was something completely different from what you and I have. I love you and you've been my girl from the moment your skateboard knocked into me." He said.

"We will find a way to make it work. Even if I have to facetime you every single day for hours." He said with so much determination that it actually gave me hope for us. "So, I'm your girl huh?" I asked reaching for him. "You definitely are." He said lowering his head to fuse our mouths.

He kissed me as if he was making a promise. In a world full of lies, he was my truth.

We got up from my bed, cleaned up, got dressed, and spend the rest of the day bench watching Lucifer on Brandon's request until my dad, Meredith and Jonah returned from my grandmother.

We were halfway through a season when they entered the house. Jonah was fast asleep as my dad carried him over his shoulder. My dad wanted to open his mouth when he saw me and Brandon sitting cuddled up on the couch in front of the TV. My dad gave me a questioning look but didn't say anything. "I'm just going to put this little man to bed." My dad said carrying him upstairs to his bedroom.

"Hi, Brandon." Meredith greeted with a friendly smile as she shut the front door. "How was it?" I asked Meredith when she decided to join us in the living room. "Your grandmother was a bit disappointed that you didn't join us but she sends her love." She then handed me a lunchbox. "She says it is your favorite." I looked in the lunchbox as Meredith mentioned it.

"Thank you." Meredith nodded. "She's also proud of you for going to University in a few months." Meredith said. "And she is looking forward to meeting Brandon." She gave me a knowing smile. "Did dad mention him?" I asked her as I handed Brandon a piece of my dessert my grandmother send me.

"Your dad can't stop talking about him." She said with a chuckle. My father rejoined us once he put Jonah to bed. He then greeted Brandon with a handshake and they started talking. "So, are we going to talk about what happened last night?" My dad asked. "Why do you want to talk about the past tense?" I asked my dad.

He only chuckled. "Fine. Then let's talk about the future." I quirked an eyebrow. Even Brandon looked suspicious. My dad got up from the couch, he then disappeared, and when he returned he was smiling. "So, I realized a few days ago that you are heading off to University in a couple of weeks and that your skateboard isn't going to take you all the way to L. A." He started to say. My eyes widened when he held a key more specifically a car key.

"So, I got you something that will help you get there." He said with a full-blown smile. "My own car?" I jumped up from the couch. "You deserve it, honey. After doing so well in school and receiving a full scholarship. And let's not talk about how I neglected you." He explained. "Oh, dad!" I said before tackling him with a hug.

He chuckled as he wrapped his arms around me and hugged me back tightly. "I'm so proud of you, Sasha. I'm standing behind you with every step you take. Every game you have, I'll try my best to be there." He said releasing me. "And I know you got yourself a new set of hockey gear and a hockey stick but mom always mentioned a brand that is top of the range so, to fulfill her dying wish and I got you a new set she requested." He said gesturing for Meredith to bring it out.

"I know mom is not here to give it to you but think of her giving it to you now with this." He handed me a small white jewelry box. I opened the box and gasp at the sight of it. It was her hockey pendant. It was two golden hockey sticks crossing dangling from a golden necklace.

"She wanted to give it to you earlier but her time ran out and she made me promise that I will give it to you on your departure to University." My dad said with tears in his eyes. "Thank you, dad. I know how hard this must be." I said hugging him. "Not as hard as almost losing you as my daughter."
