Chapter 21: 22
KAREN’S POV.
I heard the door bell ring so loud but I paid zero attention to it as I concentrated on the newspaper that I have at hand.
“ Master!.” A masculine voice called out and I lifted my head to see him.
“ What, Drake?.” I asked and returned my eyes to my book.
“ He is here.” He said.
“ Who?.” I asked.
“ Alpha Hart.” He informed and immediately it all clicked.
I jumped onto my feet.
“ Lead me to him.” I ordered and watched him walk forward while I walked behind him.
Soon we arrived at the waiting room and I could see the back of the Wolf from where he stood, his broad shoulder adding its magic to his Blue shirt.
“ Oh! I believe you are Karen.” He said and turned around to face me, his hand stretched forth for a shake.
I had to admit he was a handsome one. He was nothing like the Elders had portrayed him to be. Unlike the always frowning monster I had pictured, standing in front of me was a always smiling Wolf.
“ And you, Hart?.” I responded, since we had both decided to state the obvious. “ The council told me you would be coming but never did I think it would be this soon.” I said.
“ Better sooner than later was one thing my Granny used to say so here I am.” He responded and laughed softly. “ Can someone please show me to my room?.” He added politely. His voice soft.
“ Of course I can. I would more than love to show you to your room and even give you a tour around the house. After all it’s not like you will be here for long. Once Richard comes back, he will send you packing.” I said with faith.
He let out a low chuckle.
“ We aren’t enemies, Karen. At least I don’t think we are yet.” He said and I almost scoffed but I refused to say a word on that. “ Right?.” He added.
“ We are enemies and will always be. We became one the moment you stepped into my house trying to take his place and what’s rightfully his.” I said calmly, keeping my cool. “ I will show you to your room.” I responded as I tried to maintain my composure.
“ I will need someone to help with my luggage.” He said as I raised a brow as my eyes landed on the space beside him to see his three bags sitting on the floor.
Three!. I believed were too much of a number.
“ Drake, have his bags brought to his room.” I ordered then turned to him. “ We have one prepared for you.” I added and tried not to laugh.
He nodded in response and sent me a smile.
“ Follow me.” I ordered and started to walk forward while he walked behind me.
“ How long has he been gone for?.” Hart asked.
“ Who?.” I asked as we climbed up the stairs.
“ Your Alpha. He is your husband, right?.” He asked and I could sense curiosity in his voice.
Was he trying to mock her? Did he know of her tale already and just wanted to rub it in?.
Well I wasn’t going to give him a chance.
“ Yes. Yes he is.” I lied and pushed the door to the room on the top floor open. I wasn’t willing to reveal too much to this stranger and neither was I willing to make friends with him.
“ Here is your room.” I informed. A smile curving up my lips. “ I hope you like it?.” I added.
HART’S POV.
My jaws almost fell as I stared at the very small bedroom I was to stay in then my eyes landed on her face to see the smile on it and it clicked.
She was trying to do me dirty.
Well maybe she won. Maybe just a little.
“ I hope you like it?.” She said next then added. “ Be comfortable and make yourself at home.”
“ Can I get a bigger room?.” I asked, wondering how this small place was supposed to make me comfortable.
“ Oh!.” She exclaimed in a fake voice. “ I would have really loved to help you but every room in this house is occupied. We didn’t think you would come so early.” She added.
I grinned softly then headed into the room, bending my head so the small door would let me in.
“ I will leave you to freshen up.” She said quickly as though trying to discharge me.
“ What time is dinner?.” I asked. A question I was sure she heard but refused to respond.
I watched her walk away so quickly as though she was trying to avoid a plague.
It wasn’t entirely easy for me but I had tried getting a shower in the baby sized bathtub and dressed up in another comfy wear after the guard brought my boxes up.
After I was done, I decided to give myself a tour of my to be home so I stepped out of my room and headed downstairs. Responding to the guards as they greeted and the maids too.
I liked the structure of the house, it was just how I had thought it would be.
“ Hi.” I said, stopping one of the maids I saw.
“ Good day good Sir.” She responded and bowed her head slightly. Her gaze fixed to the floor.
“ What time is Dinner?.” I asked, my stomach wanting something to eat.
“ In the next forty five minutes, good Sir.” She informed.
“ Thank you.” I said and waved her off.
While waiting for the minutes to tick by so quickly. I decided to give myself a tour of the house. I walked towards the side of the building, admiring the plants and trees surrounding it and not too far, I sighted a pool.
Stepping closer to it to have a more descent view of the clean beautiful water.
I saw it.
The image in the water.
Only this time, it wasn’t alone. It had a companion and……
ALYSSA’S POV.
I decided to take a stroll away from home, away from Trevor or all the recent dramas. Here I was, starting to think that maybe he was starting to overreact just a little by thinking that I loved my ex.
I wasn’t ready to explain to him or make things clear to him cause that would mean I would have to tell him about my vision and I could for sure imagine how he would react to that.
I heard the sound of the icecream and turned around to see the ice cream man at his stand. I watched as the little kids scurried fast to go get some for themselves. I watched as the passerby went about their regular usual activities.
I felt someone pull my gown and looked down to see him. The young boy with Black curly hair.
I bent down to look at him.
“ Are you lost?.” I asked as I stared into his green eyes. It reminded me of the calm nature.
He said nothing and just stared at me.
“ Where are your parents? Are they here?.” I asked and ran my eyes around to look for them.
“ I want one of those.” He said and pointed towards the ice cream stand.
“ One of those is called ice cream.” I responded and sent him a smile.
All he did was nod in response so I got on my feet.
“ Let’s go.” I said and grabbed his hand to hold him.
I paused, frozen at that same spot. I felt an electricity spark in me. Felt an energy surge through me.
Blurred visions coming in one after the other. So unclear that they were mostly colors.
“ Ice cream!.” He screamed and I jotted back to reality.
I took him forward and in seconds we got there, stopping in front of the smiling man.
“ Hi.” He greeted with a happy man.
“ Hi. I will have two ice creams.” I responded and looked down to land my eyes on the boy looking at him with so much admiration.
“ Coming right up.” He responded and went on to do his thing.
“ Can I touch those?.” He asked.
“ Huh! What?.” I responded and watched him point towards it.
“ Oh! The toys.” I exclaimed, staring at the plastic small toys that were hanging on the rod.
“ Humm what about we go get you a new one?.” I asked sweetly and watched him nod his head again.
“ Here you go.” He said and stretched the ice creams to me. I took them both and handed one over to him.
I watched him take it and run his tongue over it. The way he looked at it almost made me believe that this was the first time he would taste it.
I looked around again to see if I would catch a glimpse of his parents or anyone looking for a lost boy but weirdly I saw none. Everyone seemed to be minding their businesses instead.
He pulled me by the hand and I looked down at him. My eyes meeting.
Those eyes. They looked familiar. Like I had seen it somewhere.
He looked away and pointed back at the toys.
“ Oh! Let’s go get you those.” I said and took his hand firmly before proceeding so he wouldn’t walk off before I can notice.
We walked towards the shop and entered. I watched his eyes lit up in amusement.
“ Pick anyone you want Kiddo.” I said.
After many failed attempts to get him to settle with one, he finally pointed to the one he wanted and I watched the man in charge get it down then handed it to him.
“ A Unicorn! Weird taste kiddo.” I said.
I paid for it and took his hand again, heading out.
Where were we supposed to go next? What was I supposed to do with him? Was I to take him home and beg Trevor to let us adopt him?.
I bent down in front of him, my eyes on his face.
“ Where to next, Kiddo?.” I said then it suddenly struck me that I didn’t know what his name was.
“ I never asked what your name was. Mind to share?.” I said.
I got no response from him. Just the stare he gave me.
“ Your name, kiddo.” I asked again.
“ My name?.” He asked in a soft tone and I nodded. “ I’m….. Oh! I have to go now. Mommy is so worried now.” He added.
“ Mommy? Where is she?.” I asked, looking around.
“ She calls for me. I need to go now. Thank you for today.” He said and ran off, his young legs moving too swiftly.
Mommy!.
I replayed in my head.
I never heard anyone call his name.
I thought as my eyes followed him until he took a turn at a corner and went out of sight.
Weird!.
I thought and walked towards the road side.
I waved a cab down and stepped into it.
“ Where to, Ma’am?.” The driver asked.
“ The palace.” I responded and relaxed my back.
