Chapter 6

"Why is the daughter of the Weston family here? Did you come here specifically for fun, Miss Weston?" The implication was clear. Hazel secured her executive position by pulling strings. Moreover, emphasizing "Weston" highlighted that this company was a subsidiary of Weston Group.

Murmurs bubbled up from around our colleagues. Hazel, who highly valued her reputation, glared at me furiously. In an instant, she put on a look of pity, her eyes brimming with tears. "I just wanted to start at the bottom to understand people's hardship before returning to fight for employees' welfare."

What a pretentious woman! To those unaware, it might seem as if I were bullying her.

"Really? Are you referring to the overtime policy you recently introduced?" The mention of the new overtime policy shifted the previously sympathetic looks into ones of hostility. For the working class, mandatory overtime was unforgivable!

Hazel visibly panicked. She must have been wondering how I knew about a policy only Weston Group's headquarters were privy to.

Did she think I, the heiress of the Allen family, was as frivolous in my duties as she was? I snorted heavily and returned to my seat.

The general manager, wiping sweat from his forehead, said to me after a glance at the irate Hazel, "Mira, even though you're going to resign, offending the Weston family isn't wise."

I raised an eyebrow at the general manager, who was also a close friend. "Are you interested in joining Allen Group?"

He understood immediately and subtly nodded. After all, Weston Group hadn't progressed in years, hardly a desirable place to stay. As an ambitious and capable leader, the general manager knew Allen Group was way better than Weston Group.

Satisfied, I turned my attention back to finishing my work.

And now, to the current scene.

I didn't know why Hazel, who had been absent all day, suddenly appeared at the company's entrance, nor did I expose her true character. I was simply too lazy to speak up.

But she didn't let me be.

The moment Hazel clung to Carter, she called out as she saw me and a middle-aged man in a sharp suit, "Carter! Look!" She gripped Carter in shock. He halted, following Hazel's gaze, only to see the middle-aged man helping me into a Rolls-Royce.

"No wonder Mira broke up with you so easily, Carter. It turns out..." Hazel left her sentence hanging, giving Carter endless room for imagination. Suiting her manipulative persona, she mastered the art of insinuation.

Sure enough, Carter's face turned red in anger, and he strode towards me.

As the butler and I settled into the car, we saw Carter's displeased expression.

"Have you really fallen this low?" Carter hissed through his teeth.

The butler, taken aback by the Carter's face, stared at him, momentarily confused. "Why does the man look so much like Mr. Strauss?" he wondered.

With that thought, he inadvertently uttered, "Mr. Strauss..."

But he quickly realized something was amiss, his gaze shifting betweenme and Carter, and seemingly understanding something. "Is he...?"

I arched an eyebrow. "He's Carter."

The butler's expression changed several times. "Wasn't he the Strauss boy the young mistress discovered a year ago?" the butler thought.
