I Want To Be Yours

I Want To Be Yours
CHAPTER 62
OLIVIA'S POV

I had no idea how he managed to get rid of Marcus. He didn't stay on the floor for long though. He had tried to lunge at Damon when I was hugging him, but Damon was fast enough to knock him off.

Afterwards, two men came into the room and took him away, leaving me with Damon.

"Thank you," I whispered to him and he hummed in response.

I had stopped shivering, but was still holding him close. Still trying to process it all, especially the fact that he was right here with me.

"Fuck, I've missed you so much. I feel like I haven't seen you in ages."

I finally pulled away to stare at him. There was a different glow on him which I wasn't sure I had seen before.

"You didn't come see me," I said softly, caressing the back of his neck. "I was worried."

He didn't say anything, just staring into my eyes.

"We're getting married." I added.

"I know," he nodded, almost nonchalantly. I blinked, and took a step back. He looked like he was fighting to look away from my eyes, but couldn't. Like he needed to leave right now. Through the door.

His eyes fleeted across my face and his next words caught me by surprise. "You look beautiful."

Those three words sent tiny little flutters in my belly, and I felt my whole body come alive. He always always have an effect on me. His every word always has an effect on me. I feel my cheeks heat up as the excitement coursed through my belly despite the evident tension between us.

"Thanks Damon." I blushed. "We...we probably should talk."

"Yea. We should."

I watched him intently. "Okay, um..I'm really sorry with the way we left off the other day. I know you were upset and I hurt you probably, but ..."

"Probably?"

Fuck.

He is still very much upset, judging by his tone of voice and how he was staring at me right now.

"Okay, yeah. I did hurt your feelings and I'm really sorry. It wasn't my intention at all." I apologized.

He looked at me for a long time, like he was trying to decide if he should believe me. The silence between us stretched, sharp and heavy.

"I just wish you could've been more transparent with me." He finally said.

"Transparent? You didn't even let me speak. You got so upset and then left so abruptly! I waited for you, Damon. I couldn’t even reach you — I didn’t have any way to contact you! I had to SLEEP under this roof even though I was so uncomfortable with the idea and I was almost injured today. Who knows what would have happened if..."

"Olivia, this shouldn’t have happened if you didn’t—" his voice dropped, frustration bleeding into every syllable.

"If I didn’t what?" I snapped before I could stop myself. "Accepted your proposal from the onset? I thought you would understand why I did that, Damon. It doesn’t change anything between us. I don’t want it to change anything between us. You should know how strongly I feel about you no matter how much I tried to hide it."

The air between us grew thick. Damon shook his head, his jaw tightening.

"But then I feel like you weren't certain," he said, voice low and rough, "that you didn’t even trust me to begin with — I just couldn't get that out of my head."

"I’m so—"

"Stop apologizing," he cut me off slowly. " You can't just do stuff like this and then apologizes right after. I’m human too. I have feelings, and you always, always have an effect on me." He thumped a fist lightly against his chest. "Of course, I respect that you needed clarity for yourself, but I feel like I constantly have to bare myself to you, and then you just... do what you want."

My head was reeling, my heart pounding faster each second. I was trying to think, trying to listen, trying to understand where he was heading with this... but fear crawled up my spine. What if all this was for nothing?

"You... you don’t want me anymore?" I tried to sound unbothered, but my voice cracked, betraying me. I needed to know what he was thinking. I needed to hear it.

He stared at me for a long moment, his eyes flickering between frustration and pain, and something else I couldn't understand. Then he asked, " if we hadn’t found out about Marcus' affair — who would you have chosen? Would you have said yes if I asked you to marry me?"

"Damon, you know I want you," I said, without hesitation. "You know I love you. And I want to do forever with you."

I reached for his hands, slowly, tentatively. Carefully watching his expression. But I couldn't tell what he was thinking. He didn't pull away though. I could feel my heart rate increase as I traced my fingers up his arm, then to his hard chiseled chest through his shirt.

His eyes were on me. Stern, unwavering. And while I wrapped my hands round his neck again, and leaned closer so our breaths mingled and our lips almost touched, I felt the grip of his fingers on my arm, halting my movement. Then he turned his head away from me.

He didn't even want to kiss me.

I felt a pang of hurt pierce through my chest. The hand on my arm moved towards his chest, and gently pried my hands off. "Come on, Damon," I whisper pleadingly, "don't push me away now."

"Do you not want me anymore?" I asked again, softer this time. There was a lump in my throat, making the words come out in a choked mess.

His expression softened slightly, and I could see the bob in his throat move. "My feelings for you never changed," he murmured, voice almost lost in the thin air between us.

I took another step closer, my hands shaking. "Do you even want this marriage?"

He frowned, his eyes narrowing. Maybe he thought I was deflecting from the question he asked earlier, but I wasn’t. I was desperate.

"Damon," I whispered, "I had to call things off with Marcus. I had to talk to your dad. I had to explain — to make them see why you’re the one for me. Even when I thought the chances of us being together were slim, I did it anyway. Because you’re the one I want."

I could feel the tears threatening again. "And I’m honestly sorry I made you feel like I wasn’t sure about you. That wasn’t the case. I had to do things the right way. I didn’t reject you. I didn’t not want to marry you. I do want to. I want to be your wife. I want to be yours and you mine ."
