Chapter 151
“Hi,” Gasant said as he entered the room with a smile on his face while carrying a tray in his hands. I inwardly rolled my eyes at the friendly gesture of feeding after punishing me with hunger for days. “Why are you keeping me here?” I asked, feeling frustrated that he has been keeping me here without telling me anything. “If you want to kill me, Gasant please just do it so you can move on with your life and I can be buried and rest in peace.” I said, looking at him lazily. I’ve been feeling weak ever since I arrived here, and I don’t think it's because I am hungry. This is a different type of weakness. I feel powerless, as if even if I tried to do anything with my powers, I wouldn’t be able to. “No, that would be too easy for both of us and besides I need you alive huh?” He said chuckling as he loudly dropped the tray on the dusty floor, he looked up and gave me the creepiest smile as he brushed his hands together. Whatever that he is planning must be going according to his plan because he seems very happy. We fell right into the trap. “The only person that I need dead is your mother.” He said through gritted teeth, still not losing his yellow smile.
My heart rate spiked at what he just said to me. Why does he need my mother dead? Why does he need my mother at all? I thought it's me that he wanted. “Why? Why do you need my mother dead?” I said in a panicking voice. He raised his eyebrows pretending to be surprised and his smile kept getting wider and scarier. Being six feet underground while still alive must’ve really traumatized him because he looks like a maniac at that. I never got to know him that well, but this man sitting in front of me is not the same man that kidnapped me a year ago with his vampire friend, well even if he has gone insane, it makes no difference to me. “You don’t get it, do you? The reason I keep chasing you down is that of your mother. She is the who cursed us to be demons, then the moongoddess gave her the answer to our problems, which turned out to be you. I have told you this before and I will tell you again, you are the only one who can save us.” He said, inching his chair towards me as he held my hand and looked straight into my eyes as if the answer to what he needs is in my eyes.
“You are mistaken. You are demons because you were meant to be demons. Mariah didn’t do anything that the mongoddess did not plan. Even if what you are telling me is true that my blood can make you normal again, I am sure you are not doing it the right way.” I saw a bit of shock and doubt flash on his face. Thank God there’s something that he has not calculated. I just have to pray that something does go wrong in this experiment, and I break free. “It doesn’t really matter what you think. You know nothing about this, and I have done my research.” He said as he sighed and leaned back into his chair and looked at me with a calm look on his face. “What did you mean, you want my mother dead?” I suddenly remembered that he didn’t answer the question that I asked him earlier on. “You just like talking to me, huh? Or being locked up in here makes you feel you are going crazy so much that you crave having a conversation with someone?” I chuckled a bit, not that anything was funny but because he just explained what he was going through when we buried him thinking he was dead. “You haven’t even told me how come you are still alive since we buried you with your sister, dead.”
“What’s the rush? We have the time and room to ourselves.” He said as he opened his arms, gesturing to the room.
I looked around the dusty, worn-out room that seemed like it was a living room before. “To answer your first question, even though I answered it, I want her dead because I hate her.” He said as he crossed his arms with a satisfied look on his face. “But she is your sister. Why would you hate your sister?” I asked stupidly. I don’t know why I didn’t rethink that question in my mind first, because the answer is so obvious. “She killed the only siblings that she has. She deserves to die.” He said, looking at me with a look of disbelief in his eyes as he crossed his legs together. He seems entertained by me, and I hate that. “You spent years obsessing over her daughter and you kidnapped her, planning to kill her for your own damn benefit.” I said to him, raising my voice a bit. As much as he was having a hard time believing that Mariah is innocent, I am having a hard time believing that they are the victims in this situation. We stared at each other for a minute with angry looks on our both our face, he finally sighed and stood up from his chair. He walked around the cabin and came back to this room that he had me locked in with pictures in his hand. He placed one specific photo on my lap. I looked at it. There were three kids in the photo. One with white hair who looked a bit older than the other two, a boy and a girl sitting on both her sides. They had red hair with big smiles on their faces sitting outside a cabin on the porch. I felt myself get dizzy by the minute as I realized what was going on here. The house that Gasant has kept in captured me in is their family home, where they grew up.
I looked up at him with glassy eyes and tears ran down my face as I looked at his face; he had this sad face, and he kept trying to hide it but failed miserably. “We were once kids, and we loved each other until one day when your mother was transforming getting her powers for the first time, something happened that day and we all don’t know what, but she’s the reason. We were outside playing when suddenly, she screamed, clutching her ears, saying someone was calling her, someone was screaming her name. It just happened that our parents were not around. We tried helping her in any way that we could’ve. She had just turned sixteen a few days ago, and we were fourteen. She started bleeding through her noise and a burst of energy bounced off her, throwing me and my twin against a tree. We woke up a few days later than demons, and she was perfectly fine with her superpowers. She met your father and moved on with her life. She never apologized and when she gave birth to you, I knew you were special. We had to get healed, and you were the only way out of this horrible life.” He said in a low, sad voice. I felt my heart break for him.
\My mother is the cruelest woman I’ve ever met. Why did she never apologies even if it’s not her fault just for the sake of peace? “You may think that you know your mother, but you don’t. She’s very cruel. We share the same mother and father, laid in the same womb, but she chose to never speak to us just because of what happened. She never cared enough to even offer us an apology. I am doing this because I need to be released from this hell and I have nothing against you, but your mother started this, and I am closing it.” I had totally misunderstood Gasant, I didn’t know that he was the victim in this whole thing. “I’m sorry. I am so sorry for my mother’s actions.” I said, with tears flowing down on my face. “No, that’s alright. Don’t even think for one second that this is your fault. You are just being punished for your mother’s doings.” He said as he clapped his hands and his face changed to his normal crazy face. “You can’t feel an emotion for too long, can you?” I asked, chuckling as I wiped my tears on my arms.
“Yes, but don’t worry, I will be letting you go before the end of the week.” He said, standing up and putting his hands in his pockets as he looked at me with a smile. “Oh, thank you?” I asked, awkwardly confused on how to reply to his kind gesture. Life is unpredictable. One minute, you are visiting your father at a hospital because your brother shot him and the next you are thanking your uncle for releasing you as a hostage. “Do not even think about your family,” he said, looking at me as he tried to contain his smile. I looked at him blankly, confused about what to say. I said nothing and continued staring at him. It's clear that his excitement will prevent him from staying quiet for too long. “Well, aren’t you going to ask me?” He asked with excitement written all over his face. “No.” I said blankly, knowing that whatever he was going to say, I won’t like it. “You won’t be seeing them anymore.” My face was devoid of emotion. My gaze fell upon him. I felt a mixture of numbness and foolishness as I shed tears for him. I wish Mariah would’ve just killed them. My life is anything but normal because of this person, and now she's gone without a chance to defend herself. It's because I murdered them.
I looked at him and said nothing. It was baffling to me how one person could be so insane. I have just lost my whole family because I dragged them out here thinking that he is holding the love of my life captive, the man I haven’t seen in months. There is no one else to hold accountable but me; I acted selfishly by involving my family in a dispute that did not concern them. I took them with me to fight for a man that purposely ran away from me. How could anyone be so stupid as I have been? If I get out of here alive, I will make sure I look for Autumn and kill her. All my life, ever since I met her, I have been living a lie because of her; she has never been a true friend, and she lies to me every chance she gets. She is the one that brought me here; she is a friend of Gasant’s and his friend is my enemy. “How did you get the werewolves helping you?” the smirk he had on his face from feeling proud about killing my family immediately dropped, "Well, you will be happy to know a friend of yours helped me with that."
