Scared
Allison's POV
As I stepped into the elevator, my phone vibrated in my bag with an incoming call.
Fishing out my phone, a smile creased my lips when I saw Max displayed as the caller ID.
Answering the call, I placed it to my ear. "Hey."
"Hi, petal. How are you doing? How's work?" He asked. "I hope you aren't missing me too much."
"You wish," I huffed, unable to conceal my grin. "You are still in Texas?"
"Yes, I'll soon be done with the conference. And after that, I'm boarding the fastest flight back home to you." Max replied, and for some reason, my heart sank, instead of flutter.
Ignoring the feeling, I feigned eagerness. "Is that so? I will be expecting you then."
"Should I take it that you've finally agreed to come visit me at my place?" Max asked.
I was about to respond when the elevator screeched to a halt and the doors slid open. I almost choked on air when Leo walked in, his musky masculine scent pervading my nostrils and rendering me powerless to his suave charm.
He gave me a weird, almost accusatory look then stood beside me, his hands clasped.
"Allie, are you there?" Max's voice dragged me back to reality.
"Yes, I am," I answered, painfully aware of Leo's presence. "And no, that's not what I meant. I thought we were taking it one step at a time. What happened to that?"
"I'm sorry, petal. I shouldn't have asked," Max said. "Forget I ever uttered something so foolish."
"Sure," I tried to giggle but it came out like a wheeze which made me even more embarrassed. "I have to go now. I will talk to you when I get off work."
"Alright, take care." He said, to which I hummed before hanging up.
"Are you dating?" Leo suddenly asked, and I scoffed at the incredulous and rude question.
Glaring at him, I spat. "What is it to you? What's your business?"
He raised his arms in surrender. "I was just curious to know if there's a lucky guy yet, nothing more."
Leo's utterance made me simmer with anger. "And why would you be curious? Last time I checked we are not exactly close friends for you to be curious about my love life, so cut the rubbish."
"I saw you at Dynamo yesterday," Leo said. "With him. Your boyfriend."
At that point, something in my head sparked and I darted Leo the most hateful glare I could muster.
"Are you stalking me now? Is that what you have become? A stalker? Are you that jobless and bitter that you can't bear seeing me happy? Or do you think that I'm so worthless and undesirable after my past that no man would want to be with me?"
"No, please don't get me wrong," Leo seemed genuinely remorseful. "I have never spoken or even thought about you like that. As for the woman you saw in my office the other day, it was nothing but a misunderstanding."
"Did I ask? Why are you telling me? For all I care, you can fuck her in your office, why would that be my business?" I spat.
"Alli-
"I don't want to hear it, okay? I spat. "Just leave me alone and paddle your own canoe. Act like I'm invisible and I'll do the same."
"No." Leo uttered. "That won't be possible."
I raised a confused brow. "But I don't recall asking for your opinion. I'm sounding you a warning. Don't think you have any power over me because I'm still working for you."
"I can't ignore you, Allison," Leo said, eyes darkening with something torrid. "Hell, I want you back in my life."
"You must be on drugs," I chortled mirthlessly, ignoring the flutter of my heart. "You have gone mad, Leo. If you think that I will come back to you after everything, then you must be insane."
"If wanting you back makes me insane, then I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm a lunatic."
What was wrong with Leo? Was he doing drugs or what? Why was he acting like this? Why was he professing his love to me all of a sudden?
Was all these a dream?
I was about to respond when my phone vibrated in my hold. This time, it wasn't Max but Tasha which instantly had me panicking because she never called me while I was at work, unless something bad had happened.
Ignoring Leo's intent gaze, I answered the call and pressed the phone to my ear.
"Hey, what's up?" I croaked out.
"Babe," Tasha sounded like she had been crying. "It has happened. Leo's heart almost collapsed and right now, he's in coma."
"What?" Cold shivers raced down my spine as I asked her.
Goosebumps enveloped my skin and my throat became dry.
"Please come quickly, the doctor wants to see you. I'm so sorry, Allie." She cried, and I swallowed harshly.
"I-I am on my way." I replied and hung up.
"Did something happen?" Leo asked, but I paid him no mind, as I waited for the elevator to halt.
The instant it stopped moving, I sprinted out, my heart hammering against my ribs in trepidation.

Leo's POV
"His name is Max Sanders and he is the CEO of SD corporation. He was adopted at nine by a wealthy couple who died when he was in highschool," Dylan read off the iPad in his hold. "The identity of his biological parents is currently unknown."
"Is that so?" I asked absent-mindedly.
I couldn't get over the way Allison had rushed out of the elevator yesterday, out of my head. The fact that she hadn't showed up to work today and wasn't even answering her calls was greatly unnerving.
"Yes, sir," He replied. "And as for Miss Wallace, a source told me that she was pregnant before she left America."
That caught my attention instantly. "Really? Are you sure of it?"
"Yes, sir."
So that meant the possibility of Aiden being my son was higher than I'd initially thought.
Hell, what if he was actually my son? That would explain the inexplicable connection I had felt toward him that day.
Shit, Allison and I really had a kid together.
"Anything else?"
"Yes, sir. Miss Wallace's son was born with congenital heart disease, and was rushed to the hospital about two weeks ago. But she was at the hospital last week for Aiden's routine check up." Dylan said, and my jaw slacked.
Aiden was ill?
I quickly regained my composure. "Alright, you may leave."
Moments later, I paced my office, racking my brain, trying to figure out how I could help Aiden without Allison's knowledge.
