Chapter 120: A Good Samaritan

Allison's POV

Burying my head in my hands, I heaved a deep sigh. Two days had passed since Aiden suddenly slumped and became comatose.

Earlier today, Doctor Clayton had also informed me that he had to be operated on before the end of tomorrow or else she'd be forced to discharge him, which would be the worst.

Where in the world was I supposed to take him?

I nearly jumped out of my skin when a warm hand laid on my shoulder.

"It's me, Tasha," My best friend uttered, and only then did my trepidation dissipate.

In the last forty eight hours, I had only eaten once, and that was because Tasha has threatened to force-feed me, after I almost fainted of exhaustion.

Although I knew I needed food to survive, I just couldn't bring myself to eat. Not when my baby was currently fighting for his life all alone in the ICU.

Not when I had no idea how or where I was supposed to get three million before tomorrow ended.

Fuck, I was truly done for.

Just then a thought wafted into my mind, and I found myself mulling over it.

I could ask Max for help, but that would be awfully cheap of me because technically, we weren't even dating.

Hell, I had no idea what our relationship even was, so I couldn't ask him for a huge amount of money all of a sudden.

The man didn't even know that I had a son. I had initially wanted to tell him during our date but I decided against it.

I had resolved to tell him when next we went out but that day was yet to come.

I wasn't and would never be ashamed of the fact that I was a single mother.

Hell to the fucking no. Aiden was the center of my universe, and my whole world revolved around him.

"Babe, are you even listening to me?" Tasha's voice cut into my train of thoughts, and I nodded.

"Yes, yes. Did you say something?" I asked, to which she sighed, eyes heavy with concern for me.

"David said he could help us get loans from various banks but the amount wouldn't even be up to half of the amount needed, so it's kind of pointless," Tasha said. "Right now, I don't know what else we can do."

"Me neither, Tasha," I croaked. "Me neither."

My best friend sighed then wordlessly drew me into an embrace, and rubbed soothing circles on my back. "I wish there was a way. I really do because it's just so frustrating."

"I-I don't even know what to do anymore," At that point, I was choked up with tears. "I haven't seen my baby in two days. I don't know if I will ever see him alive."

"No, let's not speak like that," Tasha's voice turned stern. "That would mean we've given up and that's not like us. We will find a way, Allison. Aiden will be up and about in no time."

I knew the likelihood of manna raining from the sky seemed more possible than us ever getting three million dollars within twenty four hours, but I chose to remain quiet as I basked in Tasha's warmth.

The sound of footsteps approaching us filled my line of hearing, and I pulled away from Tasha to see who it was, just as Doctor Clayton got to us.

My heart slammed against my ribs in intense fear and I yanked myself up from my seat. "Did something happen to Aiden?"

Darting me a look of pity, she shook her head in negation, which slightly eased my worry. "No. However, there's good news. A good samaritan has stepped in. I have no idea how he found out about Aiden but he has paid for the transplant, and the surgery will be performed tomorrow morning."

Tasha and I exchanged puzzled looks. "Am I hallucinating right now?"

"No, Miss Wallace," Doctor Clayton replied. "You are very much in reality."

"I can't believe this. How can a stranger be so kind? This is surreal." I spurted out, as Tasha wrapped her arms around me.

"That was exactly what I also said when I got the call," She said. "I guess good people still exist in this time and age."

"Can I get his contact or something? I'd like to thank him."

"You can thank him right now, he's in my office and he also wants to see you." Doctor Clayton said.

"Okay, let's go," I said then turned to Tasha. "I'll be right back."

"Alright, babe."

Walking into Doctor Clayton's office, I was met with the shocking presence of Leo, and my mouth flew open as he darted me a smirk.

"Could you excuse us for some minutes, doctor?" Leo asked her.

"Most certainly," Doctor Clayton nodded, and although she seemed curious, she didn't ask any question and left the room.

So the bane of my existence was my saviour. How ironic.

"I will repay you as fast as I can," I said. "I don't want to be indebted to you in the slightest. How did you even find out about my son's condition?"

"I believe the right word is thank you and our son," Leo replied. "I know Aiden is my son, Allison."

As much as I tried to put up a brave front, my trembling hands didn't help matters at all.

"Aiden will never be your son, you fucking b-" I stopped myself and inhaled deeply to ease my anger. "I will pay you back very soon."

Leo stood up and made his way to me. "I know you greatly despise me given our past but for Aiden's sake, please accept my help. I just want him to live a carefree and painless life like he deserves. Please."

"But don't think I have forgiven you though." I muttered.

"I would never," He beamed, revealing his healthy set of teeth. "Thank you."
