Chapter 311 We Are Married!
Chapter 311 We Are Married!
Egged on by Lillian's provocation, the supervisor couldn't hold back her temper. She shot to her feet, demanding loudly, "What exactly are you trying to say? Are you threatening me? Do you even see me as your supervisor anymore?"
Just like Lillian said, Grace was completely out of control, showing her absolutely no respect.
Grace said, "The marriage registration was decided last-minute. I didn't have time to request leave a week in advance. If necessary, I can work an extra day to make up for it! If you won't approve that either, then you'll just have to mark me as absent. And if you still refuse, I'll request leave from Mr. Nelson instead."
Stanley would definitely approve it.
The supervisor snapped, "I'm your direct supervisor. If you go over my head to Mr. Nelson, you'll be violating company protocol."
Grace rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.
She genuinely couldn't help the short notice this time.
Alexander had suddenly set the date, and because it was so rushed, she hadn't been able to request leave a week in advance.
Still, even if it meant being marked absent, she'd promised him she'd register their marriage tomorrow, and she couldn't let that slide.
Grace lowered her head and said nothing.
The supervisor, assuming she'd accepted defeat, softened her tone slightly. "Anyway, you can register your marriage anytime! You could go next week—what difference does it make? Does it have to be this week?"
With that, she sat back down.
Lillian felt secretly triumphant, though her expression remained neutral. "Exactly. Marriage registration is just a formality—it's not that important. Whether two people are compatible for the long haul is what matters. If you're not right for each other, no amount of scheming will change that!"
Having said her piece, she turned back to her work.
Anna looked at Grace with sympathy. "Grace, what are you going to do? Should you go talk to Mr. Nelson?"
Grace said, "No need."
She'd just go register the marriage tomorrow morning anyway. Let them mark her absent—worst case, they'd dock her pay and she'd make up the hours.
That evening at eight o'clock.
Alexander finally finished work.
Grace walked down to the parking garage, got in the car, and fastened her seatbelt.
Alexander asked, "Did you wait too long?"
Grace said, "No, not at all. Why were you so late today?"
Alexander said, "The Board of Directors held me up."
The stock transfer had caused quite a stir. Since he'd suddenly reduced his shareholding, the board had been in an uproar.
Several major shareholders had panicked, thinking something had gone wrong.
He'd announced his upcoming marriage directly in the board meeting.
Once they were officially registered, he'd make a public announcement to settle the board's concerns as soon as possible.
The next morning.
For once, Grace woke up unusually early.
After washing up and brushing her teeth, she picked out a white blouse and applied light, natural makeup.
A sheer foundation, a touch of blush, two coats of mascara—the look was fresh and barely-there, but enough to make her glow.
When Alexander woke, he found Grace had already laid out a full suit and a white dress shirt on the bench at the foot of the bed.
After washing up and changing, he walked into the dining room. Grace poked her head out from the kitchen. "You're up?"
Alexander paused, slightly stunned. "Why are you up so early today?"
Grace's face flushed. "Maybe because we're registering our marriage today. I guess I'm a little nervous."
Since she was up early anyway, she'd taken charge of breakfast.
While she wasn't confident with complicated home-cooked meals, she could handle basic breakfast dishes with ease.
Lily had also woken early. After tidying her room, she'd been hovering around Grace in the kitchen the whole time.
Liam and Max had to attend classes every day, but Lily, because of her paperwork situation, couldn't go to school yet.
Grace needed to sort out Lily's enrollment as soon as possible this month.
Max and Liam came downstairs, and when they saw Grace had already finished making breakfast, they looked like they'd seen a ghost. "Mommy, why are you up so early today?"
Liam said excitedly, "Because today Daddy and Mommy are going to register their marriage!"
Max snapped back to reality. He'd just woken up and had almost forgotten about such an important event.
At nine-thirty in the morning.
Alexander and Grace arrived at City Hall with their documents.
The process wasn't complicated—they just needed to submit proof of identity, pay the fee, and take the vow of confirmation.
The clerk solemnly handed them the marriage license. "Congratulations to you both!"
"Thank you."
Alexander and Grace reached for it at the same time.
Grace opened the marriage license and looked at the date, their names, birthdates...
They were married!
She felt a little dazed, as if her whole body had become weightless. Her mood was like a helium balloon, floating dreamily up into the clouds. It wasn't until she walked out of City Hall with her hand on his arm that her soul finally seemed to settle back into her body. "We're married!"
Grace couldn't help pinching her own cheek. "This is so strange. It feels like a dream..."
She'd thought getting the license would just be a formality, but she hadn't expected that the moment she held the marriage license in her hands, her emotions would shift so dramatically.
Alexander glanced at her with mock suspicion. "So even if you regret it now, it's too late. From this moment on, you're my one and only Mrs. Hayes."
Grace looked up with a small smile. "Then let me congratulate you too—congratulations on becoming my one and only Mr. Hayes."
Alexander gazed at her, his eyes softening with affection. "I'm deeply honored."
He reached out and naturally pulled her into his arms. "From now on, shouldn't you officially start calling me something different?"
Grace pretended not to understand. "Calling you what?"
Alexander raised an eyebrow. "What should you be calling me from now on?"
