Chapter 58 Chance

Chapter 58 Chance
My mind says not to believe him but this silly heart of mine says I should. A part of me says he loves me. His sad eyes, those pleading blue eyes are telling me the sincerity through his words but what if he was only faking it? He had hurt me once and I don't think I can bear it if he hurt me again. Trust takes time to earn and it was not that easy to give. He wanted us to start over, forget the past and make this marriage work for the sake of our baby- our soon-to-be family. Who am I to decline, I love him ever since. I couldn't say no although I have these doubts and fears. What if he doesn't love me and he was just confused about his feelings. I mean attraction could be mistaken for love. What if it was still Elena? I saw the sadness in his eyes when the old lady talked about her. He still has feelings for her and I know I can never compete with her. She was his first love and he wasn't mine completely. In the end, I know I'm nothing in compare to his precious Elena.
But as they say, to love is to risk, I'm willing to risk then. Sometimes, I ask myself why love can be so pathetic and cruel but then I realized true love does not run smooth but with God's guidance and blessings, nothing can break two hearts apart. This time I'll believe Thyago. He said he loves me and I will hold on to that. I might never know what this decision will bring me but one thing I know for sure, I wanna be happy, and to be with him is my happiness. He was the father of my child and I shouldn't deprive my child of a family he deserves. I love him, yes I love the father of my child. I even love him more when he gave me this child I'm carrying now. I could only pray for the happy ending of our story this time...
The next morning, Thyago prepared her a breakfast. She insisted to help him in preparing but he insisted to cook for her and just told her to relax and watch him. He said he wanted to serve and prepare good food for her and their baby so she let him be. He even fed her and watched her eat the food he cooked. He surely wanted to impress and win her heart and it was really effective.
They went to the grape orchard and pick some grapes after breakfast. It was fun picking grapes with him. He used to pick some ripe grapes and give them to her so she can taste them. It was kinda sweet and funny so she do the same, he picked a handful of grapes and put them all into his mouth. He ends up eating a lot of grapes and so as she. He even showed her the collection of wine they were making out of the grapes they could get from their yard. She wanted to taste some but since she was pregnant, Thyago did not allow her for the sake of the baby which she understood.
He invited her to go to the nearby falls after they roam around the grape orchard. They ride again the pick-up jeep to send them to the place. According to Thyago the way through the falls is a bit steep and too rocky so it's not safe for her to walk. Her husband ordered a driver to send them through the falls instead and even strictly told the man to be careful in driving because she was pregnant. They brought blankets and food such as sandwiches, canned goods, and some grapes they picked a while ago and put them in a picnic basket.
When they reached the falls, she was captivated by the beauty of it. It was a steep and giant falls and it was indeed a beautiful natural spot. The water was crystal clear and very transparent that you can even mirror yourself in it. They decided to set the blanket on the grassy plot nearby where they could watch the view of the falls then they put their stuff atop the blanket and seated there.
"This is beautiful..." She uttered while eyes are roaming around the place.
"I knew you're gonna love this place that's why I brought you here." He replied smiling while watching her being amazed by the beauty of the place. He gently tucked the strand of hair that fell through her face and place it on the back of her ear.
"Your Mom is right, I will definitely fall in love with this place." She stated happily.
"I hope I am included to the one you fall in love with." He joked while giving her a mischievous smile.
Deep inside her, she knew he meant it by the look of his eyes. She never answered him, she just smiled back at him and kept her silence. Truth is, that pick-up line hit her big time.
I know that's cheesy but I find it sweet, shucks!!!
He handed her a sandwich and bottled water. She gladly took it and have a bite on the sandwich. Anticipation shows his eyes and she knew he made those sandwiches. Is he waiting for her verdict or he wants her to compliment the sandwich he made? Her eyes automatically went through him when she tasted a tuna in the sandwich. A tuna sandwich? Why did she suddenly remember a situation between them years ago about those tuna sandwiches? It suddenly reminded her when he lied that he's allergic to seafood or any kinds of fish because he doesn't like eating those kinds of foods.
"You don't like it?" He asked curiously wondering what's occupying her mind.
"No, it's good. I just remembered something out of these tuna sandwiches." She explained bitterly.
She heard him sigh. He came closer to her and took her hand gently. He tilted her chin up and met her gaze.
"About that time when I lied to you I'm allergic to tuna and seafood, I'm really sorry. I'm not fond of those kinds of foods way back then and I'm sorry I acted rudely." He explained apologetically.
"That's okay, I understand-- "
"No that's not okay. You made those sandwiches for me but I wasted them. To tell you the truth, they do taste good. I just act exaggeratedly when I found out its tuna flavor. Would you believe me that when you left the town, I tried eating tuna sandwiches and kinds of seafood and I found them delicious? Funny because they turned out to be my favorites too." He explained. Now that was a revelation to her.
"You mean---"
"Yes, you're the one who made me wanna eat tuna and seafood, Bea. Too bad I never had a chance to eat those foods with you because you left already..." She heard a tinged of sadness in his voice but why?
She can't believe it. Is this true? Is she really the girl he's talking about who influenced him to eat seafood? Yes, she loves seafood but it never crossed in her mind that it could possibly be her? She thought it was Elena although she don't have any idea if that girl like seafood or not. She just can't believe she envied herself for that reason.
"Believe it or not, I searched for you when you are gone. I realized how stupid I am to hurt you and let you go. I shouldn't have done that. I shouldn't hurt your young feelings. I'm really sorry..." His face looked somber. Regrets and sorrow can be seen in his blue eyes.
Now that's another revelation. He looked for her when she left the town? Did he really regret hurting her? If she happened to know that earlier, she wouldn't hate him that much for sure.
"I thought we should not bring up the past and start new memories?" She said smiling.
She suddenly felt the want to brighten up his mood because she just can't bear seeing him this sad. He went silent, looks like he doesn't like what she had said.
"Hey, that's okay. That's nothing with me anymore. We agreed to forget the past remember?" She stated to make him feel better.
She laid her head on his shoulder and she could feel his intent look by that action. When she met his eyes, he smiled with wonderment. He must have liked that gesture because he held her more closer to him after that. They remained that way for a long moment as a long silence overtook. She then wonder what he was thinking?
"Have you brought Elena in this falls?" She asked to start a conversation. Actually, she really wanted to ask him about it since she saw the beautiful falls.
"Nope, I didn't. Why? " He replied while forehead knotted.
"Nothing." She answered not knowing the obvious frown that drew her face.
"Tell me if I was assuming or imagining things but am I sensing jealousy here, Wifey?" He said grinning.
She went silent and stoop down her head to hide her face and that widen his grin more. She suddenly felt embarrassed.
Shucks! He hit home, dammit!
"Okay wifey, I'll be honest to you. I didn't personally bring her here. Our relationship that time was going through tough times and it's getting worst. I went here to have a space. To have a vacation but she followed me. You see I didn't invite her around but she came on her free will so I opt to entertain and roam her around the place. People here started to assume that we're deeply in love and I must admit it's my fault because I let the people here think what they want. Besides, we were so young at that time. We're teenagers and it's nothing serious." He narrated.
She tried to hide her triumphant smile from him not knowing Thyago had a glimpse of it that made him smile too. She was glad he never brought Elena in this falls. This was so beautiful that only her- Thyago's wife should see. She was the wife and it's only her he should take in this private paradise. Elena should not come here to the hacienda in the first place, that's an insult to her! But as Thyago told her, she invited herself and he had no choice but to entertain her out of generosity, so that's tolerable then.
"Why did you break up?" She asked out of curiosity.
She just wanna know the whole story about it and it's kinda odd she doesn't feel any jealousy over asking about it.
"We're not compatible maybe? She was so demanding and unreasonable. We always fight and seem to misunderstand each other and I don't want that kind of relationship. I admit the wrong is in me, she tried her best to make it work though but I'm no longer into it. I don't know, I just suddenly got sick and tired of our nonsense fights so I end it over." He explained.
"Why are we talking about this anyway? Our relationship never lasted and that was a long time ago. It's been eight years ago maybe?" He said scratching his head.
"Oh..." She couldn't help to burst out.
That was eight years ago! Wait... Is that the same year I left the town? But what happened?
"Elena and I are over. We decided to become friends after the break-up. Besides, our both parents are friends so we can't avoid meeting each other for some events." He elaborated more.
"Is that so?" Her brows furrowed.
But that was not the feeling she saw to Elena's face way back on their High School Reunion Party. A woman will not stare deeply and meaningfully at a friend like that most especially if they happened to be exes she thought.
"Yes wifey, so there's no need for you to get jealous of her but I love it when you get jealous though.." She joked and then he laughed heartily.
"Jealous? Me? In your dreams Thyago!" She snapped that made him laugh more.
She wanted to ask more but it seemed Thyago wants to dismiss the conversation or maybe he was not comfortable talking about it so she never bothers anymore.
"Come on wifey, let's swim." He then invited then offer his hand.
She stared at him and smiled widely. Why are they talking about nonsense anyway? Might as well enjoy the view and the water than bother herself with his past relationship with Elena.
"I think that's a great idea!" She agreed.
Together they decided to bathe in the water as he gently guide her to walk on the rocky surface before they reached the water. He started kissing and teasing her when they reached the falls. She castigated him and told him to behave, glad he follow her and got contented in embracing her from behind. They even played and splashed water at each other. The place was then filled with their laughers and their bantering afterward. She was glad they open up with each other. She was looking forward to making their marriage work and lasts until the end.
