Chapter 100: The Fog Part 2
Freya’s P.O.V
I was finally having fun after spending the entire day worrying about what would happen after I turned eighteen. With the seal-thing still looming at the back of my mind, I didn’t stop it from ruining this moment with Cameron. But as it seemed…nothing was as easy.
“Alpha! Alpha!” Someone ran into the room, shouting for Alpha Charles at that moment. Immediately, everyone’s attention turned to him.
Alpha Charles came out of the crowd to stand in front of the man, placing his hands on the guard’s shoulders so he could calm down. “What happened?” He asked once the man had caught his breath.
“It’s the fog!” He pointed towards the windows. “It’s everywhere! The others…I can’t contact them!”
“Fog? In the middle of July?” Alpha Charles immediately went to the emergency exit and started to run down the stairs.
A sense of dread settled in the pit of my stomach. Something wasn’t right…something bad was about to happen.
“Freya, stay here.” Cameron told me before he ran after his father followed by Alex, his parents, Malaya and Darcia.
“Cameron!” I called after him, but he didn’t stop.
I found Sarah in the crowd and just as soon as my eyes connected with hers she nodded her head and both of us bounded after the rest of them. There was no way we were staying behind when the people we cared about were in danger. But as soon as we reached the entrance to the pack-house, we stopped dead in our tracks.
The guard had been right. There was a thick fog in front of us and it was almost impossible to see anything a couple meters away from us.
The fog was thick; rolling in like the waves of the ocean. I could vaguely spot shadows in front of me but I couldn’t see anyone’s face or shape clearly.
“Stay close, Freya.” Sarah warned. “This could be a trick.”
“I know.” I nodded my head as we took a step outside the house. But the fog was too thick. I was losing sight of Sarah just as soon, even though she was right beside me.
“Sarah! Cameron!” I called out, but suddenly…it felt like I was all alone. A shiver of fear ran down my spine as everything around me seemed blurry.
“Sarah! Cameron!” I called out once again, but no one answered. It felt like the fog was engulfing everything in its path. What on earth was going on?
“Freya…”
The sound of that voice had me freezing on the spot. “M-Mom?” I managed to stutter out.
Did I hear it wrong? Was I mistaken because I couldn’t see anyone around me?
“Freya…”
There was no way it could be her, right? But there was no mistaking that voice either. Even though I hadn’t heard her voice in nearly six years, I knew that voice by heart. And yet…
“Freya…help me…”
My heart pounded inside my chest as I took another step towards the direction of that voice. My mother needed my help! I had to get to her! “Mom…mom…” I called out to her.
My vision got even hazier and it felt like I was having difficulty breathing. Placing a hand to my chest, I took one step at a time. I didn’t feel so good anymore.
My feet wobbled and I fell to the ground on all fours, but I didn’t feel any pain either. It was as if my entire body was going numb.
“Freya…”
My mother’s voice faded, just as I fell on the ground, unable to hold myself upright anymore. My eyes started to close on their own as I gasped for breath.
And that was when I saw someone walk up to stand in front of me…and my world turned to darkness.
