Chapter 91: Always Busy

I'm not sure what happened that night, but for two days, I have barely seen Kellan or Darius.

William has told us they were busy with issues. Issues, I apparently can't know as when I ask, I get told he's not allowed to tell me.

"Something is happening." Sage looks at me and I nod.

"I agree, and no I don't know. Neither Darius nor Kellan have told me. I've barely seen them."

She looks across the room. "What I don't get is why are both Beta Ash and Yori watching you?"

That, I don't know. "We can make up our own ideas?" I laugh slightly. "All Yori told me was that the brothers are busy and can't check in on me as much. They are together so Kellan doesn't need his Beta's." I feel that's a lie.

I've no idea if they caught Aurora or if it was even her.

"Maybe this has something to do with the people outside the wall?" I turn and look at Callista. "You didn't know? I left something in my old room and went to get it. There are banners and such calling both the king and prince murderers."

Everyone stares at her.

"They didn't do it or have any knowledge of it."

"You can't be sure. Why hasn't he told us? It's weird that it is happening outside, and not even the maids and such have mentioned it. Something is being hidden." Astrid looks at me.

"You really think they would kill someone for no reason?" I stare at her shocked.

"Why the secrecy? Why are they hiding away, and suddenly never hear when we eat?" Astrid looks around the table.

"For a change, I agree with the Mut; whatever it is, is lies." Lyra glares at Astrid.

"Lies? Then why haven't they defended themselves?" Astrid laughs.

William walks towards us, and I'm glad, then this conversation may end.

"They shouldn't need to defend themselves to us. We're potentially the future Luna to the king, making us queen. We shouldn't need them to explain." Lyra glares across at her.

"Ladies, I can assure you what is happening outside is a mistake. Something from the past king, which has just been uncovered."

"How do we know it was the past king?" Astrid looks at him.

"Because when it happened Kellan and Darius were children! Not even ten." God, she is annoying me. Everyone turns and stares at me.

"You know?"

Oops. My mind fights for an answer. "No, I like Lyra looked outside, there was a banner about the murder of Mooncrest family, even I know that was over twenty years ago. So nothing to do with them."

William nods in agreement.

"Elara is right; this is an issue from before either of the brothers was old enough to do anything. Please be respectful and do not discuss it, the brothers are working on fixing it." William steps away and I watch as he walks off.

"You knew and didn't say?" Everyone looks at me.

"I didn't know. I saw the banners calling them murderers. I then saw a banner saying the king killed the Mooncrest family. I connected the dots. I only looked out once."

Okay, I've looked many times. When I go to Kellan's room, I take a detour to check. I'm not about to admit that and have them causing issues.

"Well, thank you for defending the king and prince." Lyra looks from me to Astrid and glares.

"I was only questioning it, they have barely been present the last week." Astrid shrugs slightly.

This conversation needs to end. "How is your garden party coming along Astrid?" I smile at her, hoping they stop discussing it.

"Amazing. When I spoke to the king about it, he was pleased and looking forward to it." Astrid smirks at Lyra.

"How will it work? It's still snowing, surely that's going to cause you issues?" Lyra laughs.

Apparently, me changing the conversation in no way stopped them from bickering. Sage chuckles quietly from beside me as my head falls into my hands hearing them continue their argument.

I don't understand. To start with, Astrid was all in Lyra's group, then she stepped to mine and Sage's side. She became a friend, then went back to Lyra and now? She seems to be on her own.

"You know I figured out Astrid." Turning I look at Sage.

"She was following where the popularity was. Hence she was with Lyra to start. Then she saw how people were more drawn to you and joined you. Now? I think she's realised no matter which side she is on, it makes no difference."

She could be right. It's still strange though. Astrid was so nice when she finally gave up on Lyra and her beliefs, but was Astrid just using me to get more people to notice her?

It's a smart move but it makes her look untrusted.

"Have you really not spent much time with Kellan?" Sage looks at me.

"No. I sleep in my own room with at least three Betas outside of it." My eyes roll, three seems a little excessive.

"Do you think they are doing something? Or know something is going to happen and you be at risk?" She glances at me, and I watch the servers begin to remove the plates.

Maybe she is right. I've barely seen or spoken to the brothers. The amount of Betas around me says they expect issues. If they had caught the woman, then what is it?

My eyes go from Sage to William. My wolf. Standing I walk towards him and watch as he turns and walks towards the door. Oh, I'm not letting him run.

"William."

He continues to walk away. He's avoiding telling me, or maybe he's been told not to tell me? I see Ash chuckles as I chase after William as he leaves the room.

I'm getting answers.
