Chapter 90: Her Move
Darius POV
Tonight is painful. Callista won't stop talking, and because she is between me and Kellan, it means I have to talk to her because Kellan is focused on Elara.
Solely Elara, which means I have to deal with Callista alone and my head hurts. While listening to her rattering I also am trying to remember not to act too friendly with Elara.
I'm meant to be pushing her out, not caring, whatever.
Lyra's masquerade ball wasn't as painful as this. Sure I spent most of my time with her, but we moved around the room. Constantly talking to people, new conversations. Away from her own agenda.
No Callista keeps talking about how much she has trained for this. How she has practised her routines for situations, the queen may find herself in.
Things like this are meant to be fun and relaxing. Not so tense, everyone else is laughing, so I can only imagine their conversations are better.
"It's amazing Alpha Prime Darius. A perfect example of how a queen would help."
"I think my brother has had enough of serious talk, Callista; maybe tell him about a hobby you have or something?" Kellan laughs.
"I will do no such thing." Of course, she won't.
"Well, I need to go and do a little research. Sorry to leave the party early." Kellan smiles and walks away. I look towards Elara, and she's watching him.
I'm not sure why it makes me jealous that she gives him attention. Turning away from her, I try and get Astrid to talk to me, but she quickly gives up and clearly, Callista is glaring at her when I turn my head.
So, I watch the two hours go painfully slow and then very quickly jump up to say goodnight to the guests. Walking back through Elara is standing with Ash.
"You know the plan?" After me and Kellan spoke about it, I know Ash filled her in.
"Yes, I reject you. Like I always do." She smiles and I laugh.
"Okay, let's go." I watch as she turns and leaves with Ash. Waiting for a minute I follow behind. Getting into the hall where she sleeps I stop.
"Ash, give us a minute please." I watch him nod and walk away as I go towards her.
"How can I help you, Darius?" She stands and waits.
"You keep avoiding me." I step towards her. "I wanted you." Stepping closer, her eyes meet mine. Leaning toward I smile at her, her eyes focused on mine. She's forgetting.
I cough slightly and she blinks. She's meant to reject me not actually kiss me. She gives a small nod, and I lean forward kissing her. My hand goes to wrap around the back of her neck but stops as she pushes me back.
"No, Darius. I've already said I don't want you." She turns and walks into her room. Standing I look at the door. She is amazing. Ash looks at me getting my attention, yes I was daydreaming. Turning I walk off and go to my room.
Sitting down, I grab the laptop. Now, I just need to wait. I watch the hours pass by. Taking out my phone I hit the number.
"Bored?"
I laugh hearing Kellan. "Deadly, I don't think this plan is working. We need to find out why she tried getting Sage." Maybe that's the way we get her?
"My thoughts? She wanted to have a conversation with Sage that would make her fall out with Elara. Then she has no one here to support her. Get comfy, have a nap." The call ends.
Taking off my jacket and tie, I sit back. I have everything we need to get Elara's wolf, so sitting I read through it all.
The knock has me stand, placing the laptop down I walk over and open the door.
"Elara?" It's not her, I watch as she pushes me into the room and slams the door shut.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it." Moving forward she tries to kiss me, my hand pushing her back. This is creepy. She moves to kiss me again and I push her back.
"You're not Elara."
"I am!" She moves towards me and I stop her.
"Your nails changed quickly." I point down at them. "Also, wearing such expensive branded clothing just destroys your attempt to portray her."
She chuckles.
"You're so funny." Moving, she goes to kiss me.
"You want to know how else I know you're not Elara? My wolf can sense it, you might have removed your wolf Aurora, but mine isn't a fool!" She steps back, running for the door, reaching out I grab her as it open.
"Took your time!" He was one room away!
"I was enjoying watching you trying to distract her and failing, by the way."
Of course, he enjoyed the show. "Just go to Elara, make sure she is safe. You guys, take her down. She doesn't have a wolf, so she doesn't need it shielding."
"You got rid of your wolf?" Kellan stares at her.
"I'm getting a new one. A better on." She grins at him.
"What?" Why would she get rid of hers for another?
"You're stealing someone else's wolf?" Kellan stares shocked.
"Oh, I'm stealing. It's there and waiting for me." She smiles and it's honestly haunting. "You see you believed you were the most powerful right, you're wrong. There's one wolf that is stronger than even yours, and it will be mine before you pick your Luna."
"Xenia." William looks at her.
Aurora claps. "Well done, William. My dad is planning to pay a lot, and I mean a lot to get it for me so that I won't be as weak as you believed."
"You're going to be behind metal bars. Good luck getting that wolf." Kellan laughs and I watch them take her.
"Kellan, it doesn't matter where she is; if Ethan gets that wolf, we lose it." He can't take it.
"So we get it. Now." I laugh at him. "I mean it, Darius."
"Not now. There is three days until the next event, we will plan and get it in the next three days. If Ethan gets it, she has no chance as I won't be able to find it."
Of course, Ethan is going to pay to get that wolf, but just how much has he offered them? After twenty years of keeping it caged up, now they are considering selling it?
