Chapter 30: A play
Suzette squatted in a panic. She said with a trembling voice, "What's the matter Larry? are you feeling ok?"
Lawrence ended up crying even sadder that he attracted the attention of people who walked around.
"I am not a bastard! Why did granny call me a bastard?"
He yelled so that the passerby could hear him and gave all the attention he wanted.
Suzette thought he was really upset so she took him in her arms to comfort him. She couldn't hide the sorrow in her eyes.
Some women with kids saw the scene like this. And they couldn't help but to stop and judge them.
"What kind of human being is she? How can she say something like this to a kid?"
"Exactly! Being disrespectful as an elderly."
Seeing everyone judging her like that made Sharlene extremely embarrassed. Suzanne and Camden were also easily embarrassed.
At the same time, they thought of pretending they didn't know Sharlene.
Especially Suzanne.
She was sick of Sharlene long time ago.
Sharlene was an uneducated woman who came from a small village, with nearly no manners, which irritated Suzanne.
"What do you know? He is a bastard. We don't even know who his father is!"
Her shouting drew even more attention.
The security guards saw what happened and wanted to calm her down.
The most important thing for a hotel on such a big occasion was etiquette and environment. Now that it was loud like a market. The manager would definitely blame this on them if he knew about it.
"Madame, the kid is crying so sadly. Please just apologize to him."
Sharlene didn't realize her mistake at all. She even thought what she said was right. Ignoring what people around her said about her, "What did I say wrong? A bastard is a bastard. Just like his mother."
Sharlene was quite thick-skinned. Her face was shown on the screen last time when she was at the cafeteria, so she had to leave.
But there was no chance for Suzette to show another video like that.
She was so humiliated last time that she wanted to humiliate Suzette as well.
Surprisingly, Lawrence burst into tears. He shrugged, and his voice was trembling, "You are a bad person! I am telling the police to put you in jail."
The women around looked at the kid with compassion and started to judge Sharlene again.
Sharlene defensed herself rudely, "Why does it concern all of you? Mind your own business!"
The behavior was too embarrassing to even look at.
Suzette took a deep breath, finally laid her eyes on Sharlene. She sneered and stepped forward, "Sharlene, it's no good for you to provoke me now."
"Or what, are you going to beat me?"
"Mean woman!"
Lawrence threw something at Sharlene's face from his pocket. Her face turned red right away.
It infuriated her.
"You little bastard, wait and see what I will do to you!"
She was about to step ahead and beat him.
But she was blocked by a group of people.
"Nobody bullies my son."
When the scene was chaotic, Roderick showed up in front of the mother and son like a savior, hiding them behind him.
He grabbed Lawrence from Suzette's arms and then blinked at her, as if to say, I got this.
Surprisingly she let go of her son.
Meanwhile she felt relieved for some reason.
In fact, if Lawrence weren't there, she would definitely not be so gentle with Sharlene. She still wanted her son to think of her as a "gentle mommy".
Nor did she want him to know her past.
Despite of this, Roderick showed up.
He took Lawrence in his arms, "Tell daddy, who bullied you?"
Lawrence pointed at Sharlene with tears in his eyes, "That mean woman, she said I am a bastard."
Sharlene yelled, "You are a bastard, a kid without a father!"
Roderick suddenly turned emotionless, "I am the father of this child. Please show some respect."
Without leaving her a chance to speak, he asked the manager who rushed to the scene to handle the situation. "Mr. Wang, I hope you can kick out this troublemaker and put her on the blacklist. Along with her family who came with her."
The manager answered while wiping his sweat, "Of course, I am on it right away."
Century Garden was also one of the industries that Roderick invested in. There was no doubt the manager had to do whatever his boss asked him to.
Meanwhile Suzanne and Camden couldn't believe they also got kicked out even though they remained silence.
Sharlene was still struggling on her way out.
"What are you doing? I am the customer of this hotel. How can you do this? I am going to sue you! Until you bankrupt!"
Yet no one paid any attention to what she said.
The hall was finally quiet after she got kicked out.
Some women showed their compassion towards Lawrence and Suzette.
"Don't take her words too seriously. Comfort the kid when you got home. Running into a woman like this is not best of your luck!"
Suzette thanked them one by one.
She turned to Suzanne and Camden.
They left secretly after Sharlene got kicked out. Probably because they were too self-conscious.
She exhaled out of relief. Then took her son back into her arms from Roderick.
"Everything is fine now. The mean woman got kicked out."
She paused then looked at Roderick with an apologetic look on her face, "I am so sorry that you had to see what happened. But I still have to thank you so please let me treat you to a dinner."
With a gentle smile on his face, "You're welcome. I can't stand the way they bully people like this. Larry is so sweet that I wouldn't mind becoming his father. Right, Larry?"
Lawrence's face lit up as soon as he heard it. He lean on Suzette's shoulder. "Can I call you dad?"
"You just did, didn't you?"
"Yay! I always wanted a dad."
Suzette frowned and said, "Stop messing around, Larry!"
"Come on, Rick is so good-looking. He can be my father."
For some reason, Lawrence could be so hard to resist that even his mom felt difficult to refuse him.
He even smirked where she couldn't see his face.
In fact, Lawrence's tears were all acting from the beginning.
He and Amy grew up together and they knew many secrets. They were much more mature than the kids at their age.
He didn't pay much attention to Sharlene just now. He even thought about how to help his own mother. That was why he handled the scene like that. Just to let everyone notice it.
