Chapter 4

Ally woke up to laughter of kids and was confused for a short while until she remembered what happened the previous night. She got up and took a shower to get ready for the day.

Good morning Aunty Al Cindy shouted and ran to Ally, Mike did the same.

Good morning sweethearts Ally says with a smile on her face.

Aunty Al are we going to school today? Mike ask.

Not today my angel maybe tomorrow okay Ally replies. Now come and sit with me after you guys had breakfast so that we can order some clothes for you online.

Olivia gave the kids their breakfast and started cleaning the place.

Cindy came to sit with Ally and they went through the catalogue of a children’s store. She made her selection and Ally could see Mike looking a bit down.

Mike why do you look so sad? Ally ask.

It’s just that Cindy is always getting the best and I need to wait he says with a very unhappy expression on his face.

Come sit here next to me Mike Ally instructed. Olivia please help Cindy to take a bath.

Mike you a boy and boys need to be gentlemen and let ladies do things first. You need to protect Cindy at all cost because she’s your sister but not just that she’s a girl Ally explained.

Okay Aunty Ally. I do understand now Mike says with a smile.

That’s my big guy she says and gave him a side hug.

I will take my bath when Cindy is done he says and went to go stand in front of the window.

Aunty Al are you rich? He suddenly ask.

Ally laughed. No dear I’m not rich my dad is Ally replied.

Oh okay Mike says still looking very confused.

Let me explain to you. My dad got me this house and my car that’s why it looks as if I have money, but I’m a student just like your mommy.

Your father loves you a lot aunty Al, Mike says.

Yes he does Ally says and smiled at him.

Come Mike it’s your turn to take a bath Olivia says and Mike went to the bathroom.

There was a knock on the door and Ally knew that it might be the courier company that came to deliver the clothes of the children.

Melissa woke up and wondered where she was, but suddenly remembered when she felt the pain on the side of her body. She cannot believe that George went so far to almost killing her just because the food was not ready when he got home. She was speaking to Mr Scott at university in the morning and took some notes down regarding the test that she was supposed to right later that evening, then she went to work and the place was busy. She thought of going home first to prepare the food and then leave again for class. Melissa could not afford to study full time so she divided her subjects for classes in the morning till 12h00 in the afternoon and later at night. She will go to her job at the Diner in town and then head home after her shift and back to class two hours later. This test was the last one to write before she can graduate. She’s got no idea what she’s going to do but she cannot go back to George again even if she still loves him.

There was a knock on the door and Melissa looked up. The door opened and her kids entered the room with Ally just behind them.

Hello mommy the twins said at the same time and Melissa smiled at them with tears in her eyes.

Hello my babies she says and touched their faces.

Thank you so much Al I really appreciate everything you’ve done for us Melissa says with tears running down her face.

Don’t cry Mel you going to make me cry too Al says with a sad look on her face.

Why don’t the two of you go sit on the couch and watch television while I speak to your mommy Al suggested.

The kids went to go sit down and enjoyed the cartoon that was playing. That gave the two best friends enough time to have a quick chat.

Mel the doctor spoke of discharging you in two or three days’ time. I really don’t want you to go back to George Ally says with a very concern face.

I won’t go back even if I have to go stay in a shelter with my kids Melissa says. This man was going to kill me.

You don’t have to stay in a shelter Mel you and the kids are staying with me okay, Ally says with a lot of determination to keep them safe.

My kids look so beautiful in their new clothes Al. You’ve done so much already how can we become your responsibility now? Melissa says and looked away.

I will put my father’s money to good use and not go on heavy shopping sprees for some time Ally joked. Besides I have spoken to mom and dad and they insist that I keep you guys at my home.

The doctor entered the room at that time and greeted everyone.

How you feeling Melissa? He ask.

I am doing much better today than yesterday doctor but I have a bit of pain on my side she says.

It’s because…

He looked around to see what the kids were doing and then started speaking again after he noticed that they were still watching cartoons.

He broke two of your ribs on your right. You had internal bleeding but we managed to stop that. You will be discharged the day after tomorrow but for now you have to rest. You cannot go back to the person that did this to you. The trauma counsellor will come and see you tomorrow. Melissa you very lucky to be alive. This man planned to kill you. I will leave you ladies now but please don’t stay too long as she needs her rest.

The doctor nod and then left, soon after that Ally and the kids left.
