Chapter 31
Madeline Lopez POV
The moment I knew that Beatriz and Johana broke up, I kept on regretting my decision to let go of Beatriz. I should have fought harder for the two of us because if I did so, Beatriz would have never experienced this kind of pain at all.
I was so worried for Beatriz. I knew how weak her heart is when it comes to Johana and all I can do right now for her is to be with her. Make her feel that she is not alone in the process...
When Beatriz told me last time that I did not have to regret my decision of letting her go because she did not regret loving Johana despite all of these, I kind of felt her pain... because I used to feel the same way before. I did not regret loving Beatriz even if it was too painful and complicated.
I admit that seeing Beatriz in this kind of situation makes me want to prove to her that she deserves someone like me because it really hurts to see her like this. But, I was so afraid to take a risk again since I have now learned to love myself. It wasn't that easy to erase my feelings for Beatriz even if I know that I have moved on. She's someone who will always have a special place in my heart whatever happens. It's like, she's my the-one-that-got-away.
"Bea, are you alright?" I asked while she's fixing her stuff. I noticed that she's been quiet for some time.
"Yup. Why?"
"You know what, Bea? You can always tell Aisa that you're not comfortable to be in the same room with Johana." I told her because the team have already changed their roommates in the dormitory. I am now with Bea and Johana. Awkward, right?
"No, Madeline. It's okay for me. Don't worry." She said and smiled at me.
I nodded. "Alright, if you say so." Johana is still in her class that's why she's not here with us.
"Mads, can you go with me to the bookstore later? I just feel like reading a book today."
"Sure. We can go together besides, I don't have anything to do later."
"Thank you, Mads!"
I helped Beatriz fix her stuff in our room. Her parents already allowed her to stay in the dormitory since she's now back to playing with the team. I wonder why her parents stopped her from playing and staying here. But I did not bother to ask Bea, what's important is she's back.
"Oh! I almost forgot, today's the result of the tryout." Bea said while looking at her phone.
Shoot! I have to see the result! I hope Pauline would pass.
"Bea, I have to go somewhere. Let's just meet later, okay?"
She nodded. "Take care."
I immediately went out of the dormitory and headed to the university's bulletin board and there I saw Pauline. I know it was her because of hair curly hair and body figure. I came close to her while she's still looking on the bulletin board.
"Did you pass?" I asked.
"Oh gosh!" she exclaimed as she turned around to see me. "What the hell, Madeline? You surprised me!"
I laughed at her reaction. "It was not my intention. Anyway, how was it?" I asked and slightly pushed her for me to see the results. I heard her frown.
Pauline G. - Middle Hitter
I smiled when I saw her name on the list. "Ahh! I passed!" she said as she jumps in happiness. I'm so proud of her. She really deserved it.
I looked at her and seeing her happy like that makes me want to stare at her all over the day.
"Congratulations, Pauline. You deserved it." I said and hugged her. She stiffened the moment I hugged her but she eventually hugged me back. "I'm proud of you." I whispered.
She hugged me even tighter. "Thank you, Madeline..."
I looked at her and she rolled her eyes on me. "What?" I asked.
"Really, Mads? That's it? You don't have any gift for me?"
I laughed. "What gift do you want?"
"Anything that's from your heart." She said.
"Okay. I will just schedule my surgery and will give you something that's from my heart." I joked.
I saw her frown. "Whatever. Just don't mind it."
Of course I was just teasing her. I'm planning to take her on a date since we did not get to bond more ever since we came back here in Manila. I just feel like making up to her.
"I was just kidding, just wait for it." I told her.
She was about to say something when Bea arrived.
"Madeline? Can we go now?" She asked. "Oh! Pauline you're here. Congratulations to you. I heard you passed the tryout." Bea said.
I saw Pauline smiled but I don't know if it is just me but her smile is different. Her smile was not as happy as awhile ago.
"Thank you, Bea."
"You're welcome. Anyway, let's go, Mads?" Bea asked. I looked at Pauline and she avoided my gaze. "Do you guys still need to talk or something? It's fine with me. I'll just go alone." said Bea when she noticed how quiet we were.
"Uh... No. We just saw each other here, Bea. You guys can go now." Said Pauline and smiled.
Knowing Pauline, I know that smile is not real.
"You sure?" Bea asked us.
I don't want Bea to go alone somewhere because I know for sure that it will just make her sad even more. Besides, Pauline and I don't have anything to do today, she's right, we just happen to saw each other here.
"Yep, Bea. Let's go." I told her and she nodded. I looked at Pauline. "We have to go. See you next time, Pauline."
She just nodded and smiled at me. After saying goodbye, Bea and I decided to walk away. I took a quick glance on Pauline again and I saw her looking at us, she waved at me when she saw me looking then she turned her back and started to walk away.
I don't know but I have never felt this way before. I feel like I have done something wrong and it feels so hard to breathe. Seeing Pauline like that makes me want to chase her and make her happy again. I wanted to celebrate this day with her but I don't have any guts to do so. And today, I think I just realized something new...
