Chapter 148 I Love You
Cara let out a scoffed laugh, "oh my goodness, Chris, are you being serious with me right now?"
"Yeah I am! You know that I love you and everything I do, I'm doing it for you. I heard that you are planning on getting married to that rich spoiled brat, you know he has nothing good to offer you. He has money, I have money, he's not even half as good looking as I am.
"He will just tie you down and hurt your feelings. He has no plan of loving you as a wife, he will only break your heart."
"Chris..." Cara fell quiet for a moment, trying to put her words together. "You know what?" She asked with a soft sigh. "How about we meet up when I'm around?"
Romeo arched his brow at her but said nothing to cut her off. He did not know what her plan was but he knew she would do what was best.
Still, he had doubts about her meeting with her psychotic ex husband.
"Really?!" Chris asked excitedly. "Are you being serious? You are not toying with me are you? Are you really going to meet with me? It's all I really want, an audience with you so we can finally talk about a lot of things."
She nodded her head, rubbing her temple wearily. "Yeah, sure. Let's meet up and talk. I actually have something to say to you so don't worry, when we meet."
"I love you so much! Thank you! I really love you." Chris exclaimed, not being able to hide his joy.
Cara let out a soft sigh. "Yeah." She responded, hanging up the call.
Romeo asked her softly, "do you really want to meet up with him? Is it safe?" His thick brow arched slightly.
"I'm going to meet up with him and hear whatever nonsense he has to say to me then I'll graciously decline becoming his wife again and then... I'm going to need your help." Her lips stretched out in a plain smile.
Romeo's brow arched, "my help?"
She nodded her head. "Yeah, but don't worry about that for now. This will be enough to stop him from calling for now so let us just enjoy the few days we have to spend here."
A gentle sigh left Romeo's mouth before he even realized it. "You do remember that we will be heading back a day before our wedding, right?"
"I know. I was thinking maybe heading back a day earlier would be needed but it's not necessary. Meeting up with Chris? It won't take long at all. So it's nothing bothersome. But the process might be."
His brow arched once again but Cara simply responded with a soft smile.
Taking his hand in hers, she pulled him along with a gentle smile on her face. "Come on, I want to have all the fun I can have before we have to go back."
Romeo decided not to question her further, instead, he walked along with her and went back into the house.
The rest of the day went by without any disturbance, for the first time in a while, Cara slept with a relaxed mind.
Morning came and she was still fast asleep, Romeo decided not to wake her, she needed all the rest she could get.
Stepping into the shower, after a short bath, he had a change of clothes and went into the living room. Everyone, save her Cara, was wide awake.
Miranda greeted him with a warm smile. "Good morning honey, how did you sleep? It must have not been all that comfortable since it was a stranger's bed."
"Oh not at all, it didn't feel foreign to me at all thanks to the fact that Cara was by my side." Romeo responded, a smile warming his face.
Miranda's smile widened. "Oh my... I didn't know Cara had such an effect on you. Well I am glad you enjoyed your night. And Cara?" Her thin brow twitched.
"Still asleep."
"Really? Oh that girl! I should wake her up--" she made to start towards Romeo and Cara's bedroom but Romeo's words stopped her.
"No!" He placed a hand in front of her. "No ma'am," he smiled. "There's no need for that. She's at home in her parents' home after all these while, she should be allowed to rest up as much as she wants. It's been a while since she did that really, she hasn't been sleeping well."
A worried expression played on Miranda's face. "Oh..." She fiddled with her apron subconsciously, her lips dropped into a downward smile and the light in her eyes flickered out.
"I would never have known what she was going through all alone in the city there and I would be thinking she was perfectly fine. She always has a smile on her face whenever we video call but who would have guessed..." She hugged herself in her arms. "Oh what a fool I have been."
"No no no..." Romeo's voice was soft, like the cool breeze. He walked towards her and took her arms in his. "Please, ma'am, don't think like that. She might have been going through some hardship in the city but I have always made sure that I never left her side for once. All that matters to me is seeing my woman happy and I will do anything within and without my reach to achieve it. I promise."
Miranda felt a wave of reassurance wash over her. She could not hold back a smile. Her small hands tightened around his. "You know... It's not so easy trying to be what you are not, I am not Cara's real mother and I never will be. But I try, honestly. I need you to promise me something though."
"Anything."
"I might not be Cara's real mother but you can be her real husband. She has been through a lot because of her last marriage and she is really hurt. But if you stay by her side and never leave her, care for her as much as you can, I will really appreciate that. Promise me?"
Romeo's handsome face was touched by a smile. His voice was as soft as the gentle breeze on their skin as he spoke. "I promise."
