Chapter 27: Kneel to Me
She slept on the other side of William, and how did she wake up in the arms of Michael?
Michael was also very surprised, feeling unusually peaceful sleeping that night.
With his hand under his head, he raised an eyebrow and looked at Jennifer, "Are you regretful?"
Regretful?
What was he thinking about every day?
Jennifer couldn't help but be irritated, "Not at all. I'm not interested in you."
Jennifer offended him, and Michael snorted, "Opposing the employer, and you will be dismissed, with a breach of contract penalty of 10 million."
As he spoke, he couldn't help but raise a hint of a smile on his lips, and 'kindly' reminded, "Don't forget that you still owe me 5 million."
"This is an imparity clause."
Jennifer's tone was unfriendly.
Michael raised an eyebrow and said, "What can you do to me?"
She really couldn't do anything to him.
Jennifer was helpless and said, "I'll go find William first."
After speaking, without looking at Michael's expression, she turned and left the room.
Michael looked at the empty room and smiled, "Sharp-tongued."
Meanwhile, Jennifer hadn't even managed to talk to William downstairs.
The phone rang urgently.
An unknown number?
Jennifer didn't know who it was and politely answered, "Hello, who is this?"
"Five years away from home, you can't even recognize your mother's voice anymore?"
The woman on the phone was as arrogant as ever, and Jennifer could imagine Mary Sterling's hypocritical and contemptuous face even through the phone.
Her voice turned cold unconsciously as she replied, "I was long kicked out of the house, so where is the mother now?"
The various abuses she suffered in the Sibbett family five years ago played back in her mind like a movie.
Jennifer still remembered the first day she was brought back home, when Mary, citing her body odor, left her outside in the rain for two whole hours.
Later, when she was harassed by a stranger and ran back home in fear, she received no care but was instead spat on by Mary, beaten until covered in bruises, and then heartlessly kicked out of the house.
Memories flooded back, Jennifer's hand gripping the phone tighter and her hatred reaching its peak.
Mary was still giving orders high and mighty as she did five years ago, demanding, "Your father and I want to see you now, so come back immediately."
Jennifer sneered, "I have to come back just because you say so? Don't forget that it was you who drove me out of the house five years ago. I, Jennifer, have long severed all ties with the Sibbett family."
They were not kind first, so why should she still uphold family ties?
Mary glared, "Have you lost your mind? After five years of not seeing you, you dared to clamor with me?"
Still cursing, she could not help but sneer and mock, "Don't think I don't know what you're up to. Now immediately roll back. Otherwise, do you want me to personally go to the Whitfield family to pick you up?"
…
Why did Mary know that she was in the Whitfield family? Jessica was once again blaming Jennifer for the humiliation that she suffered in the Whitfield family.
Mary was always biased towards Jessica without distinguishing right from wrong.
The icy coldness in Jennifer's eyes reached the soles of her feet.
She did not want Michael to know her family matters.
She coldly responded, "I will go back immediately."
Mary smirked triumphantly, "That's more like it. I want to see you in half an hour, or you know what will happen!."
Jennifer did not respond to her threat and directly hung up the phone.
Taking a deep breath, she approached Michael with a look of apology and said, "Mr. Whitfield, there is an urgent matter at home that requires my immediate attention. Can I please have a two-hour leave?"
Her home?
Earlier investigations only mentioned she was from the Sibbett family in Silverdale, without specifying which Sibbett family it was.
At this moment, Jennifer suddenly mentioned her family, and Michael's gaze became more probing.
Seeing her cold eyes, Michael felt a hint of curiosity. This was not the first time she had this expression, completely different from when she was in front of William.
What kind of family would make her react this way?
There was an inexplicable look in Michael's eyes as he said, "Robby can take you."
Jennifer quickly waved her hand, "No need to trouble him, and I can go back by myself."
"Where are you going, Jennifer?"
William suddenly ran over and only heard Jennifer say something about wanting to go back, and he immediately became anxious, "Jennifer, are you leaving?"
Jennifer held William tightly, soothingly saying, "I just have some things to take care of at home. I'll be back soon. William, can you and your dad stay at home and draw pictures? I will continue telling you stories when I come back."
…
"No, Dad and I will accompany you."
William refused without hesitation, and he simply couldn't bear to see Jennifer go alone, fearing that she would not return once she left.
"No."
"Let's go."
Jennifer had just started to refuse, but Michael stood up decisively.
“It’s unnecessary?"
Jennifer's refusal was lacking in determination.
Michael stared at her eyes tightly, "Is there anything you're afraid I'll find out?"
"No, just some family trifles, and I don't want to bother you." Jennifer dodged his gaze that was staring at her, "Thank you then."
The truth was right in front of them, and it couldn't be hidden.
Anyway, it was not something that couldn't be seen by others. It was fine that Michael would know it.
Seeing her agreement, Michael slowly withdrew his gaze and drove to the Sibbett family.
Five years had passed, and flowers bloomed and withered, and everything changed, but this mansion remained as magnificent as five years ago.
Jennifer smiled bitterly. When she first came here, she was full of excitement and anticipation.
Thinking that she finally had a home and family.
But all of this was just a dream.
Now that the dream had awakened, the anticipation had long disappeared like flowing sand, leaving nothing but a touch of bitter resentment.
Jennifer's eyes gradually cooled down, raised her head, and walked into the villa's gate.
"Jennifer, you are back."
Jessica sat on the sofa without moving, pretending to be happy in front of Mary.
It seemed as if the previous confrontations had never happened.
Mary and Jason Sibbett lazily glanced at Jennifer, mocking as they did years ago.
Mary snorted and slammed the coffee cup heavily on the coffee table, "Jennifer, cat got your tongue? You can't even greet us?"
"What have you learned outside in these past five years? Why don't you come home even when you're back in the country?” Jason still didn't bother to look up, his tone full of dissatisfaction towards Jennifer, "It seems Jessica was right. You still have no manners."
…
Jennifer looked at this family of three in disgust. How could they be so shameless?
She coldly remarked, "I never had manners to begin with. Didn't you all know that five years ago?"
“Give you ten minutes, speak directly. Don't waste my time.”
She had promised William that she would leave within twenty minutes.
She didn't want William to wait anxiously. Besides, she didn't want to stay here for a second.
…
Another crisp sound rang out.
Mary got furious, slamming the table and glaring at Jennifer, "You've crossed the line. Kneel to me."
