Chapter 23 Chapter 23

LUCIAN

I sat in my room, on my chair and waited for a more important call. From Joe.

I had known that it was Mason who was behind this but I also needed to put a stop to this.

Isolde's feet shuffled towards me. “Babe…”

I barely looked up from my phone.

“Are you still angry at me?” She whispered.

“I'm so sorry…I know how this feels and I know how angry you are but then you should also consider the fact that I'm a mother too. I love my daughter so much and she's all I've got so it's normal for me to react the way I did” She pleaded.

I knew all these were flimsy excuses and I wasn't going to buy any.

This is just her own manipulative way of trying to make me calm down and forget that she was once reasonable and unwilling to see my efforts.

“Isolde, please just let me be and do my thing. You do this every single time and this time, please let me be”

I kept pacing from one end to another, waiting for Joe to call back…maybe was even going to come up with a clue or something that would lead us to Mason's hideout.

“I know you're mad at me right now but you just have to listen to me” she begged.

The fact that she was trying to be manipulative irritated me even the most.

“Like I said earlier, let me be”

“I can't let you be because we are in this together. The same wish is important to you the same way she's important to me as well so you just have to understand that”

I clenched my fist, frustrated and furious.

“So you knew all these and you decided to come in here yelling like I had a hand in her abduction? Are you even being serious right now? Do you know how you sound?”

The more I expressed myself, the angrier I became. She's gotten on my nerves too much.

“Look, everything I said earlier came from a place of frustration and I expect you to know better. You don't seem to understand the fact that she's my only daughter and as it should be, I would be angry and inconsiderate to some extent so don't act like the saint here. You'd do just the same thing”

“So you know you're inconsiderate sometimes? Wow, tell me something. It's really funny how you admit the things you once denied”

I could see the tension and fear in her eyes. I doubt if she even slept all through the night.

“I don't want to talk about that please. Let's focus on finding Seraphina.”

Like seriously?

“Look, do you think you are the only one that is affected by her absence? Or you think you're the only one that's worried? Every single person that she has a bond with are all worried and frustrated just like you…most especially me!”

I tried forcing back the tears this time around. The thoughts of what those unknown men would even do to her scared me. I cursed silently under my breath.

‘Take a chill pill, she'll soon be back in your arms.’

My wolf whispered. The first time I heard his voice was so cool and calm since the whole problem started.

I went mute for a while, thinking of how she will be feeling. She'd sincerely have no idea how worried and frustrated I have been since her absence.

“Has Joe called back?”

I stopped in my tracks, trying to be sure of the person's voice I heard.

“Are you going to answer me or are you just standing and staring?” She asked, raising eyebrows. “Please tell me something. I'm getting…”

“It's okay.”

I picked up my phone again, scrolling through if my chance was going to find something reasonable.

“I don't know what's taking Joe this long”

The bell rang…

Joe walked in with a grim expression on his face.

“I should have told you earlier but he has plans of holding her up for the longest time except when you show your face.” Joe said.

Isolde jumped right in the conversation. “Who is keeping my daughter captive?”

Joe shot me a panicked look, and I nodded. “Alpha Mason.”

She sneered. “That bastard.”

“Good to see him trying to pick up from where he had stopped. Gather the troops, go there and get her for me.” Isolde commanged.

Joe didn't move an inch, instead kept looking at me for approval and I slightly gave it.

“I'm coming with you.” She declared.

“Stay home and let him do his job.” I overrode her request.

It was evident on the look on her face that she didn't want to stay back while I handled the situation my way.

“Please bring back my baby in one piece.”

I brought out my phone, scrolled through my list of contacts and came across somebody else who I didn't think would need his services.

“Bryan Walker, it's time for you to show up.” I sent the text.

“The big bad alpha contacting me? I'm made for life!”

“Good to see you doing something worthy with your time. Bring Mason to his knees. I need his charred ruins.” I replied.

“Great!”

My hands hovered over my keyboard and I sent the message to the board of directors.

Mason was going to crumble without my intervention.

I hissed, keeping my thoughts to myself as it spread through the blogs.

This was just one of many.

I spotted Isolde fidgeting in the background but didn't bother explaining. “Excuse me.” she murmured.

Now that was weird.

Joe and I exchanged glances, “Go on with your work.”

As soon as he left, I lounged on the chair, waiting for the next move. He wasn't going to know what hit him until he returned.

The video of his plants catching fire popped up on the screen and I sighed.

Step one, activated.

I craned my neck just right in time to see Isolde hurrying off.
