Chapter 134: Overturned

Chapter 134: Overturned

Sylvia's pov.

“Expired!!”

Are they fucking kidding me?

Alfred tapped me on the shoulders, pulling me out of my wandering thoughts as he had noticed my strange demeanor, “What's wrong?” His brows creased and eyes searched.

I offered the drugs to him, pointing at the dates with a raised brow. Alfred was just as confused as I was, “You think they did this on purpose?” His voice was stoned, a hint of anger behind it.

I shrugged my shoulders, honestly having no clue what to believe, “I mean they've wanted to get rid of us for quite some time, this might not just be a coincidence.”

Knowing that they would stoop so low to do such a thing made my blood boil, they could have as well just let us fucking leave instead of making our lives all the more difficult.

We both exited the room, settled in the living room, I walked over to the conjoined kitchen to grab a glass of water as my mind kept spinning.

“What are we going to do about it? We can't keep giving her these drugs,” an exhausted sigh escaped his lips.

He was probably exhausted from taking care of her alone, especially in her current condition, I wouldn't want to put any more burden on him.

Shutting my eyes for a brief second, “I'll take care of it.”

But I guessed Alfred wasn't having it this time, “Can I at least know what you are going to do? I need to be a part of this because if I had been, perhaps I would have seen it coming and prevented it, maybe she wouldn't…”

I glanced in his direction, watching him fight the urge not to blame himself, “It's not your fault Alfred, you wouldn't have known, I wouldn't have known either.”

Walking over and placing my hands on his shoulders, “We just need to be careful that's all.”

There was no way I would do anything in the pack without his help anyway, so he was going to be involved whether I liked it or not. I sighed at the thought, “I am going to the hospital to find out what happened.”

“In the meantime, you probably should start getting ready, things are about to change in this pack.”

The tension in the atmosphere should have already given it away.

Without a break nor rest, the hospital came into view. My anger was already at its peak but yet I pushed it down, convincing myself that it might have all been a mistake.

But doctors aren't meant to make mistakes, I learnt that from Dr Kate.

Stepping into the room, the harsh smell of hospital scent hit me twice as strong. I guess these new werewolf senses were here to stay.

There were whispered as they all peered at me out of the corners of their eyes, looks that I have known all too well over the years and I don't give a fuck.

“Hi, excuse me,” I spoke softly with a polite smile, gently placing the drug on the counter.

The nurse, tag reading Tilly, raised her eyes from her computer with clear disdain, “Yes?”

“This drug was disbursed to my mother, I would like to know why,” nodding towards her for an answer, “I'm sure you know my mother.”

All of them did.

The woman with a curse and no cure.

“Because your mother is sick and she paid for them,” the sarcasm in her voice couldn't have gone unnoticed and the other nurses as well chuckled as though I didn't know what I was doing.

I chuckled along with them, “So she did pay for them, then why the hell would you give her expired drugs?”

Nurse Tilly grabbed the drugs from the counter to examine them. I watched her features the entire time, trying to pick out the changes in her expression.

Nurse Tilly hummed, “That has never happened before,” she seemed to be genuinely confused and so I didn't sense any foul play whatsoever.

My trust issues had never been the same since my father died.

“Well, I doubt it caused any harm really,” she said indifferently, shrugging her shoulders.

I scoffed in disbelief, eyes widened, “You call almost killing my mother, ‘no harm,’” in air quotes.

“Your mother was never fine and we both knew that, stop trying to blame it on the drugs.”

There might have not been foul play or someone out to get my mother, but this constant threat against our life is what angers me the most.

And I really couldn't take it any longer. I knew my father loved this pack with everything he had and he would have wanted us to remain here, but unless there was a way to clear his name, I doubted we would be getting the peace we needed.

I was this close to exploding but calmed myself down, “Can I get another drug that's not expired?”

Nurse Tilly disappeared for a while returning with a new packet of the drug and I made sure this one would do the trick before leaving.

The place brought back memories that I hadn't settled with at the moment.

On my way out, the current beta of the pack also entered as well, his presence couldn't go unnoticed as everyone bowed respect.

He stopped in his tracks, taking in the scenery before his eyes landed on me, eyes arched in question, wondering why I wasn't bent low in respect.

I gritted my teeth before bowing alongside the others.

A satisfied grin appeared on his face before he waved us off. I was seconds away from exiting the hospital until my path was blocked by Beta Kane.

I raised my gaze to meet his, wondering what this was all about yet he only smiled down at me, “It's been a while dear.”

He probably didn't know how much I hated what he stood for, the very fact that he was in a position my father should have been.

I bowed once again, sidestepping him and taking my leave with the only excuse that he probably wouldn't give a fuck, “My mother needs her medications.”
