Chapter 544
Hearing Brady's name, Molly frowned. The scale in her heart swayed back and forth, as if she couldn't choose either one.
She bit her lower lip, "This is between him and me."
Oliver's face turned cold. "Don't you think you two aren't right for each other either? Brady is Ms. Alicia Nelson's nephew. Even if it's a distant relation, it looks like he's highly valued."
Molly pressed her lips together. Hearing this, she looked up at him. "What are you trying to say?"
"I heard from James that Brady is being groomed as an heir now. He's already quit his job back home." Oliver spoke calmly, his eyes never leaving Molly's face.
"What does that have to do with you?" Molly already knew about this.
She had struggled with it when she first found out, but because of her tendency to avoid things, she had long pushed those struggles to the back of her mind.
"If it has to do with you, then of course it has to do with me." Oliver snorted and turned his head to the side, as if venting, his jaw clenched tight.
"My business has nothing to do with you." Molly stuck to her usual line.
Oliver immediately looked back at her. "Molly, are you choosing to stay with him because he's going to inherit the Nelson family?"
Hearing this guess, Molly's face immediately turned cold. "Is that what you think of me?"
"No." Oliver denied it right away.
He knew perfectly well that Molly wasn't someone who cared about material things.
But whenever he thought about her being with Brady, he would say stupid things without thinking.
"But don't you feel like you and he aren't from the same world?" After just a moment of silence, Oliver continued talking.
"What?" Molly immediately frowned, as if she hadn't heard him clearly.
Oliver licked his lips, pushing down his irritation. "You think you and I aren't from the same world, so why don't you apply that same thinking to him?"
"Before, he might have just been an ordinary person with some higher education, since the Nelson family back home had already declined." Oliver said while waving his hand. "But now that he's got Ms. Alicia Nelson's attention, he's different. The Nelson family is very powerful in Eldoria. You must have seen that. After he inherits the Nelson family, he'll be almost on par with James. Someone like that—don't you think you're from two different worlds?"
He finished speaking, his head tilted, his eyes full of confusion.
In his view, Brady with such prospects was the one who truly belonged to a different world from Molly.
While he, Oliver, was just an ordinary member of the Russell family, with no interest in work, living off the family, and when he got older, he'd probably become like his father, living off company dividends, spending an ordinary life.
Molly understood what Oliver meant, of course.
She pressed her lips together, looking into Oliver's eyes. She slowly walked over and stopped less than three feet away from him.
"That kind of future is something he earned through hard work." Molly spoke slowly. "Just like my bar—I saved up money from running the coffee shop before I could open that bar."
Listening, Oliver frowned, wanting to say that he was the one who put up the money and effort for that bar.
But quickly, he remembered that Molly had already paid him back, so the bar really was something she built herself.
And Molly kept going. "He and I are both working hard, taking it step by step to get to where we are now. But you're different. From the moment you were born, you were already standing at the finish line we're aiming for."
"Even if we work our whole lives, we might never reach where you are now."
"We're not from the same world at all."
Listening, Oliver's frown deepened. As Molly was about to leave after finishing, he called out to her. "What does that mean? What's so great about where I am? Someone like me will never get near the family's core business. Being supported by the family to play around my whole life—is that the goal you want to work toward?"
He didn't get it.
What did Molly mean by all this?
Shouldn't someone like him be the cautionary tale every family brings up?
Hearing him ask this question, Molly sighed. "It's normal that you don't understand. Let me ask you—do you know what I really like to eat? Do you know which country I dream of traveling to?"
Hearing these questions, Oliver's brain froze again.
And in that freeze, he couldn't stop Molly from leaving.
When Bob and Felix came to hang out with him, they found Oliver lying on the couch in a daze.
"What's wrong?"
The two of them sat down beside Oliver.
Seeing them arrive, Oliver moved his head and turned to look at them. "Would you guys want to be like me?"
Bob and Felix were stunned by the question.
But they quickly gave their answers.
"If I were like you, my parents would probably beat me to death." That was Felix speaking.
Though he was the son of the Hill family's third son, because Heath was so hardworking, their branch's assets had even surpassed the combined total of the other two branches.
And since Heath only had one son, that son's only son would naturally be the sole heir to the family assets.
Though Felix had been hanging out with Oliver lately, the truth was that at only twenty-two, he had to attend board meetings every night.
They called them board meetings, but really it was the older generation teaching him how to manage the company. Sometimes he even had to make trips to work at the Eldoria branch.
"My dad said if I were like you, I shouldn't bother coming home—just die on the street." Bob also spoke up with a laugh.
Though the Davis family had declined quite a bit, their assets were still considerable.
As a child of the main family line, Bob naturally had to take over company operations too.
Though he didn't need to study constantly or attend meetings like Felix, he still participated in some important meetings and managed certain company departments.
So among these three, only Oliver was a rich kid who just played around all day.
Hearing these answers, Oliver immediately sat up. "Right? What's so great about being like me? I just have a bit of money!"
As soon as he said this, Bob and Felix fell silent.
Though they were all wealthy heirs, the "bit of money" Oliver mentioned was actually quite a lot.
Still, while they envied Oliver's spending money, Bob and Felix wouldn't actually want to be him. As fellow members of wealthy families, they knew all too well what kind of reputation people like Oliver had in their circles.
For the sake of their own reputations, they wouldn't want to become him.
