Chapter 21
Alpha Kaye's POV.
I was in my peaceful sleep when I heard the blaring sound of an alarm. It was a special sound to announce that a prisoner had escaped. I sprang to my feet as I recalled Jasper.
“Jasper!” I called out in a low but sharp tone.
As I made my way out of the room, the two guards guarding the prison gate walked to me. Before they had the opportunity to say a word, a hard slap spread across their cheeks.
“How dare you? How did this happen?” I gritted my teeth with rage in my eyes.
“We were fooled, Alpha Kaye.” One said.
The other explained what happened to me, and my instinct went straight to Anabel and the mafia bosses. I sprinted to the mafia bosses' room, but it was empty.
“I knew it,” I whispered.
With some guards out to search the woods, some guards followed me and I led them to Anabel's house.
“If she is indoor, then she is innocent.” I thought as the guards went into the house.
“There is nobody in the house, Alpha.” One of them said.
The rage in me grew immensely, not at Anabel but at Jasper. How dare he involve Anabel. Now, I have to find a way to clean her out of this.
“Let's go.” I commanded and we went back to the mansion.
After some minutes of intense searching, all the guards came back to announce that they couldn't find Jasper nor the mafia bosses.
Now, my search in the human world had increased.
“You all may resume to your various duties. We'll sort this in the morning.”
As I was about to go back into the house, I bet my eyes got a glimpse of someone watching us, but when I looked back at the spot, it was quiet.
I would have thought I was wrong, but the scent I picked was a familiar one, just that I place it. Maybe after a couple of hours of sleep, I would remember.
January's POV
“How did this happen? How dare you make this happen, May?” I grunted in anger.
“He was supposed to take the blame for the death of that woman. What if they trace it back to you? What would you do?” An evil grin contorted with a sly smile played on my lips.
“Never, January! They can't trace it back to me.”
“Really? Is that it?” I picked up a knife and approached her.
She began to tremble with each step I took closer to her.
“Yes.” She responded shakily.
“Tell me. I want to. Know how you intend to clean up this mess.”
“There's this woman involved in the escape. I'll leave clues that lead to her, and I'm sure they would be able to find Jasper then.”
I let out a soft sigh of relief and walked back to the table where I picked the knife.
“Okay then. What about the other plans? How far have you gone with it?” I tilted my head.
“So far enough that Kaye's Pack would be doomed by the next full moon.”
A menacing and loud chuckle escaped my lips.
“Just wait, Kaye. You'll pay for it all.” I grinned.
Anabel's POV.
While I was in the woods, waiting for the search to be over, I felt someone sprint pass me so fast that I couldn't pick a scent. Thinking it was just random, I ignored it.
After the search was over, I went back to my house. It was as I left it, but one could tell that someone had been here after we left.
“If I had made it here before them, it would have been less suspicious.” I thought, but there was nothing I could do at this point.
I took off my cloak, and it was at this moment I realized the sprint from earlier was intentional.
“Oh my goodness! What would I do now? Would Alpha Kaye have me killed instead?” I feared for my life as I stared at the torn cloak.
After giving it some thought and concluding for the worse, I made to get some rest before the morning.
I woke up to the sound of the announcement.
“The criminal, Jasper, had escaped the prison thanks to some strange men he brought to the Pack. It was rumored that a woman, one of our kind, was involved. Any clues found should be brought to the mansion immediately.”
My heart skipped a beat as the announcement came to a stop. To worsen my situation, my eyes fell on the cloak.
“I'm screwed!” I buried my head in my hands.
Alpha Kaye's POV.
I had requested an urgent meeting about the case of Jasper's escape and was on my way when a guard walked to me. He was about to speak when I shunned him.
“If you have anything to tell me, come to the conference room with me. I'm late already.”
He walked behind me to the conference room. The council members were settled, I took my seat and the meeting started.
“I'm sure it's no news to any of us here that Jasper has escaped from prison.” I started.
“It's also no news that the person searching for him was the one that helped him escape.” One of the members butted in and this took me surprised.
“What do you mean by that statement?” I retort, my fist clenched and ready to work.
“The Pack are afraid that you were the one who helped Jasper escape from prison. We all know he's your childhood friend.” Another buttressed the point.
Before I could utter a word in my defense, the guard that followed me spoke.
“I'm afraid Alpha Kaye isn't the one that helped Beta Jasper escape from prison.”
