Chapter 26: Contrast Sensation
Her words were like a thorn, piercing Vincent's heart fiercely.
Until Bethany left, Vincent couldn't figure out what he owed Bethany, making her despise him so much.
Wasn't she the one who changed her mind first?
...
After dinner, Bethany left and went home.
Katie said she would have the driver take Bethany back, and Vincent said, "I'm also going back. I'll give Ms. Campbell a ride."
"That’s great,” Katie said.
Bethany had no chance to refuse.
Vincent knew Bethany's address. He started the car, and twenty minutes later, he dropped Bethany off at home.
Bethany unfastened her seatbelt, and Vincent asked, "Won't you invite me up for a cup of coffee?"
"I'm too tired today. Maybe next time," Bethany made an excuse to refuse.
Vincent smiled, with a hint of rogue. "Tired of what? Besides eating, all we did was have fun, and wasn't I the one moving this afternoon?"
Bethany's face suddenly flushed.
This guy was quite shameless.
"Do you visit every patient at their home?" she said with a hint of cold sarcasm.
Vincent looked straight at her and said, "I never let other women sit in my passenger seat. You're an exception."
His eyes were full of sincerity, but Bethany couldn't believe him at all.
Vincent pressed on, "Considering I drove you home, let me come in for a cup of coffee, Okay?"
Bethany looked at the watch on his wrist and slightly lowered her eyes. "If I refuse, wouldn't it seem ungrateful?"
Vincent smiled, "Exactly."
"Alright then." Bethany got out of the car, waiting for Vincent to park, and then took him home.
Bethany's home was a simple studio apartment, neatly arranged and bright. Her paintings could be seen everywhere in the living room, giving a pleasant feeling.
"It's small, hope you don't mind." Bethany took out a pair of slippers for Vincent.
It was a pair of gray and large-sized men's slippers, presumably for Clinton.
Vincent frowned and said, "I don't like this color. Do you have any others?"
Bethany glanced at him, her gaze seeming to say, "Be grateful I have these for you, and you're still picky?"
Vincent pretended not to understand her gaze.
"This is the only pair. If you don't want to wear them, then don't come into my house." Bethany took out a pair of pink girlish slippers from the shoe cabinet.
Vincent's frown deepened.
He wore such cute slippers?
But he had no choice, so he reluctantly put them on. However, they were too small, and his heels touched the floor, making him look quite comical.
Bethany couldn't help but laugh at the sight. "Well, it suits you!"
This was the first time since their reunion that Vincent had seen Bethany laugh so happily.
At this moment, whether he felt embarrassed was no longer important.
He pretended to be serious but said with warmth in his eyes, "Is it funny?"
Bethany nodded honestly. "Yes, it's funny. The contrast is quite strong, and it's quite amusing.”
"My contrast can be even stronger. Would you like to see it?" Vincent teased.
His aura was too strong, causing Bethany to retreat to the corner against the wall. She looked up at him and asked, "Which aspect are you referring to?"
Vincent leaned in, his arm against the wall, trapping her tightly. He lowered his head and smiled, "Affairs in sex, what do you think?"
"I've already experienced it. There is indeed a contrast sensation, but after you take off that white coat...”
Bethany continued somewhat regretfully, "Honestly, the ruffian-like qualities in you don't actually clash that much."
She was turning the tables on him, and he found it rather amusing.
"There are even more contrasting aspects I haven't shown you." Vincent deliberately dangled a bait.
Bethany couldn't help but be curious. "Such as?"
Vincent leaned down and whispered in her ear, "Such as, when you're my master."
Bethany trembled slightly.
Even if she wasn't flirtatious, she was somewhat aware of certain things in certain circles. He meant that he was willing to be masochistic.
He, someone so high and mighty, would deign to be masochistic for her?
"You actually have this preference?" Bethany asked in astonishment, then added, "Have you had any experience?"
"No experience, and it's not exactly a preference," Vincent replied bluntly, his gaze unwavering.
His throat emitted a low, hoarse voice, enticing. "But if you're interested, we can try, hmm?"
Bethany couldn't help but imagine what he would look like kneeling obediently to please her.
The thought flashed by, and her face flushed to the roots of her ears.
"I don't want to try, and I'm not interested in you." Bethany quickly ducked down, slipping away from his attempt to corner her against the wall.
Vincent watched her retreating figure and couldn't help but laugh. Her face was already red, but she was still stubborn.
Bethany walked to the counter and asked calmly, "I have tea, milk, and coffee here. What would you like?"
"Tea," Vincent walked into the living room and admired the various paintings on display.
It had to be said that Bethany's artistic skills were indeed good. Each painting gave a refreshing feeling.
Her talent should not be hidden.
Bethany focused on making tea. The steam diffused in the air, bringing some warmth to her cold face.
Vincent stood by the window, the dim light of the night enveloping him from behind. He watched Bethany intently and asked, "When will the results of the art exhibition you participated in come out?"
Bethany replied, "The day after tomorrow."
The tea was almost ready. She turned off the heat and said, "Today, Ms. Smith said my work was very good, and she’s confident that I'll win an award. But I still feel a bit nervous. There are too many outstanding entries this year."
"Don't worry. You'll definitely win the honor," Vincent affirmed.
Bethany raised an eyebrow, handing the steaming hot tea to him. "How can you be so sure?"
Vincent took the cup, felt its warmth, and smirked, "I believe the works I've guided won't be bad."
He easily stirred up memories of that day in Bethany's mind.
They just made a phone call that day, but now he stood in front of her, looking at her with an intimate gaze.
Bethany felt both embarrassed and angry but still pretended to be calm. "You're too arrogant. If I do win, I'll come to thank you."
"Alright, it's a deal," Vincent said.
Bethany didn't know where Vincent's unwavering confidence came from, but he did give her confidence.
As they chatted, Bethany stared at the watch on his wrist and said, "Do you plan to sell this watch? I want to buy it."
Vincent's eyes gleamed with a deep light.
He raised his hand, meeting Bethany's gaze on the watch, and asked, "Do you have a fixation on this watch? Is there any special significance to it?"
