Chapter 156: Inevitable
Amelia's POV
Alexander's lips found my neck before I could process what was happening. The gentle pressure of his mouth against my skin sent shivers down my spine, making me gasp.
My heart hammered against my ribcage as Alexander pressed me deeper into the couch cushions, his weight deliciously heavy on top of me.
"Alex..." I whispered, but whatever I was going to say dissolved into nothing as his teeth grazed the sensitive spot below my ear.
My hands moved of their own accord, wrapping around his neck and threading through his thick hair. God, his hair was soft between my fingers. He groaned against my skin, the vibration making me arch toward him.
"You smell so fucking good," he murmured, his breath hot against my neck.
His scent enveloped me completely—sandalwood, citrus, and something distinctly him—primal and intoxicating.
Every nerve ending in my body seemed to awaken under his touch, responding to him in ways I'd never experienced before. The heat between us was palpable, like electricity dancing across my skin.
His hand slid up my leg, fingers tracing patterns that left trails of fire in their wake. My breathing became shallow as his palm moved higher, skimming my thigh, then settling at my waist before slowly traveling upward.
When his hand finally cupped my breast, I couldn't suppress the whimper that escaped my lips.
"Is this okay?" he asked, his voice rough with desire.
I nodded frantically, unable to form words. His thumb brushed over my nipple through the fabric of my dress, and pleasure shot through me like lightning. I bit my lip to keep from making more embarrassing sounds.
Alexander pulled back slightly, his eyes dark as he studied my face. "You're fucking exquisite, Amelia." The intensity in his gaze made it impossible to look directly at him, and I closed my eyes.
His thumb caught my lower lip, tugging it free from my teeth. "Don't hide from me," he commanded softly. "And don't do that. I've completely run out of patience tonight."
Before I could respond, his mouth claimed mine again, hungrier this time. His tongue slipped between my lips, tasting, exploring. The kiss was both patient and urgent, like he couldn't decide if he wanted to savor me or devour me whole.
I felt his hand move to the back of my dress, fingers finding the zipper. A nervous thrill shot through me, making me tremble. Alexander must have felt it because he paused, his eyes questioning.
He shrugged off his suit jacket, letting it fall carelessly to the floor. Even through his shirt, I could see the perfect contours of his chest and shoulders. My mouth went dry as he returned to the zipper, slowly pulling it down.
"Wait," I said suddenly, pressing my palm against his chest. My voice sounded small and uncertain, even to my own ears. "I... I'm not ready. I've never..."
My mind raced with conflicting emotions—desire battling with fear, anticipation wrestling with insecurity. I wanted him with an intensity that frightened me, but something held me back—the vulnerability of crossing that final threshold, of giving myself completely to him.
Alexander froze, his expression morphing from desire to confusion. He sat back, creating space between us, and ran a hand through his hair. He looked away, jaw clenched.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, embarrassed by my inexperience. "I don't know what—"
"You're still a virgin?" he asked, his voice carefully controlled.
I nodded, my cheeks burning. "I never... not even with Daniel." I swallowed hard. "He tried, but I never let him touch me like this."
Something flickered across Alexander's face—surprise, followed by what looked strangely like satisfaction.
"I didn't know," he said finally, his voice gentler now. "I assumed—"
"I know what you assumed," I interrupted, suddenly feeling defensive. "But no. This—" I gestured between us, "—is new territory for me."
Alexander was quiet for a long moment, studying me with an expression I couldn't read. Finally, he leaned forward and placed a soft kiss on my cheek.
"I'll wait," he said simply, standing up. "I should take a shower." He smoothed his rumpled shirt. "Thank you for the surprise tonight, little wolf. Get some sleep."
Before I could respond, he turned and walked away, leaving me alone on the couch with swollen lips and a racing heart.
I stared at the half-eaten cake on the coffee table, at the candles Alexander had blown out earlier. Already, I missed his touch, the weight of his body on mine. Had I made a mistake stopping him? The memory of his hands on me made my skin tingle with renewed desire.
My fingers unconsciously traced the path his lips had taken along my neck, trying to recapture the sensation. The ghost of his touch lingered on my skin, leaving me aching for more. I could still taste him on my lips—whiskey and sweetness from the cake.
Sighing, I picked up the cake and headed to the kitchen. I needed a moment to think.
The cool air from the refrigerator hit my flushed face as I carefully placed the cake inside. I closed the door and leaned against it, taking deep breaths to calm my racing heart.
What was I doing? Why had I stopped him when every cell in my body was screaming for his touch? Because I was scared? Because I wasn't ready?
I pressed my forehead against the cool metal of the refrigerator door, closing my eyes. Images flashed through my mind—Alexander's intense gaze, his tender touches, the way he immediately stopped when I asked. The respect he showed me in that moment spoke volumes.
This wasn't just physical attraction. What I felt for Alexander went deeper, more profound than anything I'd ever experienced. We'd fought so hard to get to this point—through misunderstandings, manipulations, and our own stubborn pride.
Memories flooded through me in waves. The shattering pain I felt watching him almost mark Cassandra at the Luna Festival, his lips on hers while I collapsed in agony. The setup of Seraphina's schemes to separate us, nearly costing me everything. The electric moment when he followed me into the women's bathroom, pressing me against the wall with a hunger that matched my own. The jealous fire in his eyes when he discovered I'd been at Leo's house, his possessiveness both infuriating and thrilling.
Every moment between us—every fight, every touch, every misunderstanding—had led to this night. We'd circled each other like planets trapped in each other's gravity, unable to break free, destined to collide.
How many more obstacles would the universe throw in our path? How many more misunderstandings and separations could we endure? Life had shown us repeatedly that nothing was guaranteed, especially not tomorrow.
The truth hit me suddenly: I was tired of waiting. Tired of obstacles and misunderstandings. Tired of the universe constantly trying to keep us apart.
"No more waiting," I whispered to myself, a newfound determination flooding through me. "No more chances for something to go wrong."
