Chapter 40 Jeff's Birthday Banquet

The cigarette butt was about to burn Bryan's fingers, so he threw it on the ground and crushed it with his toe.

"You just need to say whether you agree or not."

"Agreed, he had to agree!" Quinn had been worrying about not having a good project lately. His father was pressuring him. If he couldn't produce some results, he might really be replaced by his half-brother.

Bryan got the answer he wanted and hung up the phone.

Soon, he would be able to meet that fierce little wildcat again.

A hint of a smile appeared in Bryan's deep eyes.

This time he would plan carefully.

Elena slept well. It was quiet downstairs. No one dared to disturb her.

Indeed, what she had done before had been effective. Those people finally learned their lesson.

Elena looked around and felt that something was not right when she didn't see anyone.

"Where did Megan, Regina, and her daughter go?" Elena lazily asked, wrapping her own coat around her.

Megan looked surprised when she saw Elena. "Ms. Winston, today is Mr. Jeff Winston's 80th birthday. Everyone from the Winston family went to celebrate with him. Why are you still at home?"

Jeff's 80th birthday?

Elena felt a bit disappointed.

Jeff had always liked her, but he never approved of her marriage to Bryan. Because of this, she had a falling out with Jeff and had never returned to the Winston Old House after getting married.

She had even forgotten that today was Jeff's birthday. Elena pursed her lips and felt like crying.

"I sent the invitation to you, and I even wrote it with gold letters. I put it on the table over there," Megan muttered softly.

Elena calmed down a bit and smiled. "It must have been destroyed by Regina."

Regina was afraid she would attend Jeff's birthday party, so she had to attend.

"Ms. Winston, what should we do now? It will take you an hour to get there, and you haven't prepared a gift for Mr. Winston," Megan panicked.

"It's okay, Megan. I will tidy up and leave. You will be in charge of the estate today," Elena said calmly. "If someone misbehaves, make a note of it. I will handle it personally when I come back."

Elena raised her chin and deliberately spoke loudly. She was intentionally letting some worms from the Winston family hear.

"Okay, Ms. Winston," Megan's eyes filled with tears. The current Elena really made her relieved.

The Winston Old House

Jeff didn't like noise, so he only invited some close relatives from the Winston family and some good friends.

Jeff sat in his seat, feeling a bit bored.

He looked around but didn't see Elena's figure, feeling somewhat disappointed.

Regina nudged Cora and said, "Go and please Mr. Winston Senior."

Cora nodded and smoothed her own hair. Today, she deliberately straightened her hair according to Regina's arrangement, because she heard that elderly people like obedient children.

"Mr. Winston Senior," Cora sweetly called.

Jeff glanced at her and replied coldly.

"Mr. Winston Senior, this is the gift I prepared for you." Cora took out the cutlery set she had prepared. She also catered to his preferences.

"Thank you," Jeff said verbally, but he only symbolically accepted the gift, without even thinking about opening it.

Cora furrowed her brows, feeling a bit dissatisfied. It has been five years... She has been pleasing him like this, but he doesn't appreciate it at all and always refuses to acknowledge her.

Cora wanted to leave directly, but when she saw Regina's gaze, she patiently sat back down.

More and more people came to attend the birthday banquet. When everyone gathered together, they discussed business and skincare products of the past two years.

Suddenly, a small group of people brought up the topic of the Winston family.

"I remember the Winston family had a child named Elena. How come we haven't seen her for years?" a noblewoman looked around and was a little confused when she saw that Jeff was only surrounded by one girl.

"Don't mention it. Ms. Winston has a peculiar personality. I heard she had a falling out with the Winston family over a man and never returned." someone explained in a hushed voice.

"Yes, I heard about it too. I don't understand how Ms. Winston could like an old and ugly man like that." These rumors were spread by Cora.

By the time these rumors reached everyone's ears, Elena's image had become extremely negative.

Cora couldn't help but laugh as she listened to these rumors.

"Mr. Winston Senior, don't listen to their nonsense," Cora restrained her laughter as she spoke.

Jeff was especially angry.

"All of you shut up! If you don't want to attend the birthday banquet, then get out." Even though Jeff was old, his voice was still loud.

He absolutely wouldn't allow anyone to slander Elena.

Seeing Jeff getting angry, everyone quickly fell silent.

After all, Jeff was still the one managing the entire Winston family.

They didn't dare to offend him.

Cora saw Jeff standing up for Elena like this, and she almost bit her teeth in frustration.

"Mr. Winston Senior, everyone didn't mean to say that. Maybe Elena..."

"You can also shut up. Don't pretend with me."

Jeff actually saw through Cora a long time ago.

Cora pouted in grievance, "Mr. Winston Senior, let's not talk about Elena anymore. Let me give you a massage."

She could only act dumb now. Regina said that as long as she pleased Jeff, the Winston family's property would be hers in the future.

Jeff closed his eyes, preparing to take a nap.

Elena entered from the small garden.

She used to love this small garden the most because there was a patch of peonies planted inside...

She and her mother also loved peonies the most.

Because peonies represent wealth and are particularly delicate.

It suits her perfectly.

When she walked into the front hall, there were more people.

Elena was a little nervous because she hadn't been back for several years...

Although she sent birthday gifts to Jeff every year, she was stubborn before and even resented Jeff.

Before Elena even entered, she heard a familiar voice...

"Don't put red flowers here, change it to peonies."

"And here... It's too messy, straighten it up."

"Leave the middle position empty. No one should sit here."

That position was reserved for Elena.

As he spoke, Jeff's voice became softer and softer.

Elena walked in and softly spoke, "Grandfather."

Jeff, with his back to the door, trembled and almost lost his balance.

Cora was close to Jeff. She hurriedly supported him.
